it looks like a watch a kid would win at the county fair for throwing balls down a clowns mouth... (does it squirt water?) (does it come with chewing gum?) or worse, like a tacky rappers watch.ghettoscum fabulous.if i owned this company and my designers started making watches that look like fakes already, id be pissed..
I appreciate the horological aspects of this piece. There is one thing I find ironic about it, though. Tourbillons are supposed to help increase a movement's accuracy by counteracting the effects of gravity on the balance wheel. However, what's the point accuracy on a watch with no second hand and no minute markers? That thing could be off by minutes, and who would know? Still and all, very nice watch.
@GiacomoHoldini There is a second indicator, take a look at the tourbillon cage itself. It rotates once per minute. Therefore the tourbillon cage itself becomes the seconds indicator. But you're right about the lack of minute markers.
@GiacomoHoldini I agree wholeheartedly with what you are saying. They are merely a work of art and a showpiece on your wrist. That is it. They are no practical in the real world :)
not my cup of tea, the whole reason a tourbillon was made was because watchmakers wanted a more accurate way of telling time, instead of the jerking of the rotor, if you put a rotor on a tourbillon watch, its just to raise astetics
@lolcat23 When the rotor of a common watch is moved very quickly, say when strongly clapping your hands, or swimming, it tends to off set the time, making it less accurate, hence why the tourbillon was made. Use the Urwerk 202 as an example, it has a "Control board" back that can adjust the airpressure inside the case as to smooth the movement of the rotor when doing things that require hard fast movements of your arm, say hammering in nails.
@lolcat23 Ok my memory was flawed, but I have read somewhere that the turbines help with accuracy, and I will take a look for the origins of a tourbillon, do you have a link that would help me?
@theownzer i can tell you a couple of things. When tourbillons were invented, wristwatches didnt exist. And if they did, clapping your hands while wearing one would break the balance staff pivots. They helped a bit when they were invented. They were invented for pocket watches. Google "breguet tourbillon invention" and you should get a couple of nice links. The turbines in the 202 function like air brakes. pretty cool idea imo.
Actually, the tourbillon was invented by Abraham Louis Breguet as a mechanism to nearly eliminate poise errors (the lack of balance of the balance wheel). He recognized that when a watch is rotated 180 degrees in a pendant position, poise errors cancel themselves out. He correctly reasoned that if he could design a watch where the entire regulator could be rotated within the watch, poise errors would pretty much compensate themselves away.
@theownzer, You'll learn fast! Watches are addictive.
.
Abraham Louis Breguet is more than just a "founder"; he is one of those rare individuals in history that seems to have done as much for the field as every other brilliant mind combined. The tourbillon, shock-proof jewelling and the perpetual calendar - all were his ideas, and in the 19th Century!
@theownzer (cont:) Most agree that he is the greatest figure in watchmaking history.
.
Today, Breguet is "just" another high-end watch company (albeit one with an impeccable pedigree), but to their credit, their styling remains faithful to the Founder's original 18th and 19th Century designs.
Oops, I made a mistake in my first post; I should have said 18th Century, not 19th Century. The tourbillon, the perpetual calendar and shock-proofing; all were introduced in the 18th Century.
absolutely agree. people don't seem to know much about aesthetics in this case, but they have a more pleasant tank version. Still the time is not readable there and what are we discussing afterall? Honestly I'm more interested in other kinds of watches and don't have a spare 80k$
Gorgeous!

@GiacomoHoldini absolutely right, tourbillions are far less accurate than modern quartz watches, but theyre just so damn beautiful!

@theownzer could you explain a bit more what you mean by "jerking of the rotor".
the watch is going to move around on the wrist of the user. A rotor will not add any movement to the watch.

@theownzer the tourbillon was not invented for that reason, look it up.
and you explain the 202 function very strangely. A rotor still has no impact on the timing ability of a watch. tourbillon or not.
