@Y2JCodes U have to make sure that you copied the layers right... i spent about 30 minutes tryin to get it to copy and paste cuz im runnin photoshop CS5 but im runnin the 3D suite so it looks a lil different... but it works

you need to go to image/Mode/RGB Colour

or when you press file/new in the popup that comes up fine colour mode ( 2 down from height )

and put that to RGB colour, also make it 8 bits next to it

I assume you want to add the text with the effect onto another image with a transparent background? Delete the black background, so the background is transparent. Then click ctrl + shift + alt + e to stamp the layers together and click ctrl + a and then copy and paste. I think it should work.

Need Help with the part where you made a duplicate of the original layer..

All you do is select the layer with the T sign in it, then press CTRL+C (to copy) and CTRL+V (to paste). this will creat a copy of the layer.

Make sure there's a little window that says 'layers'. If not, Go to the 'windows' menu, and put a tick next to 'layers'. Then, click on the layer you want to select and hold ctrl while clicking to select.

what is the setting set to in the doge tool? is it set on highlight, midtone, or shadows? each one of them will affect how the doge tool will react, for example if you have it set to highlight and decided to darken highlights then it will make it blacker than something that may be in the shadows.

Ctrl+C is copy and Ctrl+V is paste you could also use Ctrl+J (I think) which is the hot key for duplicate the layer but with text highlight then copy/paste.

Hey I was playing around with this and I found out that after your done, do the steps of filter>render>clouds. then filter>sketch>chrome and then do color dodge. It makes it look really hot and it brightens it up. you also have to raise the text opacity up a bit.
