  • Wie wird sich die frau, die diesem gewerbe gemacht werden ? Oldien, Oldie, Omi...

  • My mom used to use Cold Power XE, which I think was a newer, improved version of this product. At that time (mid-1970s), we only had a washing machine, and no dryer...my mother would hang clothes to air dry on a big clothesline my dad put up in our basement. I love these vintage commercials...and Ginger, your testimonial sounds so poised and professional!

  • Awesome commercials but hate that WC labels on them! Many thanks for sharing and the hard work. Much respect for that but cant enjoy them with labels on the them :( sorry

  • Wow. I had forgotten about Cold Power detergent.

  • @Teflon65 Me, too. I recall those commercials

  • Egads, now I'm waiting for someone to make a "Ginger Shingler rap" video, like they do to those Wilford Brimley commercials!

  • I remember our family actually trying out Cold Power way-back-when. IIRC it did seem to clean pretty well- perhaps TOO well- as I recall that our clothes wound up with more holes than ever in them! Of course we stopped using it after the breathing-fabric fiasco...

  • @NipkowDisk your video of the washing machine, no wonder there were holes in your clothes!!!! Ginger

  • that lady in the commercial is actually talking to us how cool is that :P

  • @PumaM90

  • @PumaM90 Hi! I do enjoy talking back to writers. Best to you, Ginger

  • I just learned the formula used in laundry detergents to clean clothes better in cold water existed for decades. laundry detergents do not have to work in warm or hot water thanks to the formula for detergents to clean clothes at its best in cold water.

  • Oh my Lord, my mom used to use this stuff. And, uh, Ginger, she had hair just like yours in the commercial at the time, too! Way too cool!

  • Great!! Yes, the hair, which we thought was so lovely, looks really funny now! Best to you and your mom,. Ginger

  • What a very weird hairdo.

  • we used this too. i also forgot about it until i saw this commercial!

  • Thanks for your kind comments to me. It has been fun to "relive" this adventure ! Best to you, Ginger

  • my mom used this - i wouldnt have ever thought of it again had ii not seen this!

  • Wow! A commercial--and the homemaker who endorsed the product--that outlasted the product! Great job! Funny that with the renewed emphasis on cold water detergents (Tide Coldwater, for instance), that Colgate didn't revive Cold Power before selling their laundry detergent lines to Phoenix Brands! It was an idea whose time hadn't come yet!

  • Hi! I've been out of town and just read your comment. I thought the same thing about Cold Power!! I would sometimes have to defend using cold water to wash clothes!!! Best to you, Ginger

  • I grew up in New Jersey and when I was a kid, my mother swore by this product. When you're trying to save money on heating costs, washing your clothes in cold water did the job. At least the band is stilll alive in New Zealand.

  • Hi! Thanks for your interesting comment. I'm amazed that with all the talk about economics, that this brand isn't the most popular in the US!! best regards, ginger

  • hey, i actually live in Arvada Colorado.

  • We lived in Arvada from 1968 to 1975 and Lakewood from 75-76. We love Arvada and enjoyed our time there. Best to you, Ginger

  • Cold Power is still sold in new zealand, and the powdered form is almost unrivaled in its cleaning ability.

  • Amazing! I had not realized it was sti1l around somewhere. Thanks for your note! Ginger

  • I remember seeing these commercials along with the depressing soap operas my mom used to watch when I was a kid. I can still hear that dreadful durge from the "Days of our Lives" theme song.

  • hi grammie ging. its rachel.

i love watching this video. its interesting to see what you looked like back then. mom says we look so much alike.

    love you

    rachel

  • Hi, precious Rachel...I'm back from trip and what fun to hear from you....Yes, we do look alot alike and you bring joy to my heart! love grammie

  • Hello from Australia, did your sister really tell you about coldpower????

  • gingershingler:

Are you really the woman in this commercial? WOW!!!! I'm writing to a real celebrity LOL!!!! While i dont remember this commercial specifically, i do remember Cold Power. I was a kid back then and i always thought the box was cool looking with that big wave.

  • Hi, yes I'm the woman in this commercial; however, not a real celebrity!!!LOL I was 29 years old and now I'm 66....amazing to have this come up again!! Glad you liked the box!! ginger

  • Hi Ginger -

You were certainly a beauty. Were you a model? I was wondering how you ended up on this commercial.

  • Hi! No, I was not a model, but a homemaker who answered a phone survey for the first time (I had said "no" to surveys before). The research company called me back a month later and said the Cold Power folks wanted to visit at my home....who knew it would be a fun adventure!!! thanks for writing, Ginger

  • You were very poised on television--I would have been scared to death. Good for you!

  • Hi! Thanks for your compliment!! I was 29 years old then. lol

  • why do women shave off their eye brows and draw them back in? with that always surprised look too

  • Hi! Sorry, those were my real eyebrows!!

    No pencil !! ginger

  • Her hot water bill is less. Really...with that Doo?

  • Hi! I used to get teased more about the "hot water bill" comment more than anything else. Now, these many years later, it's the Doo!!! ginger

  • Did Cold Power do that thing to her hair?

  • Hi! we actually thought that "hairdo" was just right!! I had long, auburn hair backcombed to death, then smoothed in a bun. Cold Power only put the hairdo on TV!!!! ginger

  • Wow! So you were the "consumer" for this commercial?

Backcombing... Whew! Hopefully you still have your natural hair still.....

  • Hi! Yes, I really was a homemaker who used Cold Power only! and I still have my hair thanks to now many years of NOT backcombing!!! ginger

  • The most beautiful picture that I have ever seen of my mom is her teachers college graduation picture where her hair is in what my dad always called her, "Ginger up-doo" I have never seen the commercial until now. how were you chosen to make a testimony about the product Ginger?

  • Hi! It was the result of a phone conversation I had with a survey company in Denver. They contacted the Cold Power ad company and they flew out to Denver to interview me. I found it amusing and had no idea how fun it would turn out to be. Is your mom's name "Ginger"?

I had no idea the hairdo would cause so much discussion!!! ginger

  • No my dad called it the ginger up do because of YOU in the Cold Power Commercial apparently but the commercial was off the air by the time I had any memory and I don't even know if cold power was still around. I knew about you and the commercial though from my dad teasing my mom. We weren't allowed to have exotic names like Ginger in our family and I think that we were supposed to regard those who did with suspicion but I never did lol.

  • Like I said, it was an interesting experience which just keeps happening! Now, I'm a retired grandmother living in Idaho!! Best to you and your mom and dad. Ginger

  • Love the geisha hairdo

  • Hi! You're right! Hadn't thought about the hairdo that way before!! ginger

  • I FORGOT ALL ABOUT COLD POWER!!!
