What a special experience for you, an absolutely beautiful bird, their metabolic and locomoter capabilites are incredible, so efficient. They generally continuously eat, and almost instantly use up the energy from the necter or insects eaten.
Amazing! Dadburn phone! This video would have been longer if the phone hadn't run. This little fella looks just like the ones i see in my own yard in western NC.
So cute!! That one looks like an Anna's hummer. Are you from the West Coast? That is where most of them are. They like the chartreause color of my raincoat and will follow me around the yard when I'm wearing it but never have allowed me to touch them.
@2westwind Thank you for the post. Yes, an Anna's Hummingbird filmed in coastal San Diego. They are quite inquisitive and often hover in front of me or in front of a window I may be standing near. Great "friends".
@pariapsara LOL! I spend quite a bit of time in the yard and think they just became accustomed to me being there. Even when on hands and knees weeding or planting they would buzz in over my shoulder out of curiosity. Great fun!
I appreciate your interest in sharing the video with others. I'd prefer that you link as its interesting to me to see the demographic reports on views however, I've enabled embedding in the event that it works better for your application - thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comments! For the most part, I've ignored them as I work around the yard. I didn't have a feeder at the time but plenty of flowers. On occasion as I'm watering with the hose, they'll zip down and drink straight from the cascading stream.
I've since put a feeder up near the glass door and they don't hesitate to visit even when you're standing in the door.
Only a young inexperienced bird would let you do that. The adults are alot more cautious and wouldn't let you get too close unless you hand fed them or something.
That was an amazing experience, we have hummingbirds at our feeder all day long, but are out of there as soon as they see you. That was a wonderful experience with wildlife you had, it's great you got it on video. My wife and I enjoyed it!

We have a hummer that looks similar to this (with the purple head)-- do you happen to know what kind it is?

@hawkin939 Yes, it is an Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna). Filmed in San Diego where they are present year round.

Fine anna's! Were you able to leave it successfully (resting) ...or did it leave?

It perched back on the fence briefly before being buzzed by a mate and they flew off.
