2:32 LOLOLOL sooo true... I practice tai kuan do and our point system discourages actually touching someone ANYWHERE and you have a disqualification if its under the waist. but u can get double points if u manage to get a kick up to the opponent's head.
@BeastRider300 The rules are sort of like boxing... but with your feet. I have to admit, it produces some amazing kickers though, and it when it gets mixed with muay thai and boxing...
Thanks for this video - it's great to hear that it's not just us 'ethnics' who are playing the 'race card' (I hate it so much when people say that, but well...) when it comes to this issue. It helps that you brought up all the martial arts issues too - I definitely learnt something.
Part 2 of my response. before going out into the real world. Even today's military men at the special forces level do not have this much time.
As for Hollywood and race, this has been the situation for a long time. David Carradine was one of our first caucasian martial heros. He was an actor, not a martial artist. Personally, I do not see this as racist, but marketing to target audiences.
@KeniLeeBurgess Not racist? Really? Bruce Lee came up with the show, with the hope of being in it. The producer said, "if we put a yellow on the show, they will shut their tv off". So a show put together by racist producers for a racist audience? Caradine wasn't my hero, EVER, I though he was terrible. Instead of a Chinese accent, he sounded like someone with a mental disorder.
@SimKoning To the best of my knowledge, Bruce Lee did not pitch the Kung Fu tv series. He auditioned. Prior to this, Bruce Lee played Kato in the Green Hornet series and appeared in the Longstreet series. The Kung Fu tv series definitely influenced my interest in martial arts. Apart from the fighting there was usually an inspirational philosophical message. I agree Mr. Carradine skills were theatrical. Again, these are fictional stories.
@SimKoning Part 2. Generally, any stereotypical role can be viewed as racist. Chinese laundry man, Poor black southern farmer, evil fat white poliitician...
You certainly bring up good points, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Seperate fact from fiction. Just because they decided to cast Noel Ringer does not mean the producers are racists. Thank you agian for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. You bring up some interest points, but Last Airbender is a fictional movie based on an animation. Cardinal rule number one, don't look toward martial art movies for your techinque. Chinese Cultural Revolution era martial arts (aka wushu) and today's extreme martials arts are not necessarily solely concerned with applicable fighting methods. They focus mainly on character develop and good old exercise. Realistically no one from a practical point can study for 20 years,
@KeniLeeBurgess "Realistically no one from a practical point can study for 20 years" Why would you need to? I trained with 10 year olds that (after 2 years) could use double chain whips and do butterly kicks. Why? because they had a really good coach that knew what she was doing (she was from the Bejing team).
did u know that on the animated cartoon, the people that voiced it wern't the same color?? and we dont even know the whole story. they had a cirtaint amount of money, but does it really matter?? there has been movies with different backrounds b4! its not such a big deal, its not raceist, if it was raceist u wouldn't hav seen inuet like ppl, u would hav seen all white
when training in kobudo, my master and grand master taught me the purpose for the moves rather then telling me to just swing a weapon around (and look cool).i admit that the "advanced baton swirling" has a nice form, but it doesnt show much of a "martial artistic" ability....it just looks cool.

@mango4president Traditional Kobudo is awesome, it just doesn't look pretty, so all this baton twirling crap is more popular and it drives me nuts sometimes. Wushu is really flashy, but they tend to stick to techniques that actually exist in the traditional styles... they just do it in a more explosive and faster way with much lighter weapons.
ive trained in yamanni-ryu kobudo and ive always seen the difference. i would have to agree that this is mostly just spinning a shiny toothpick around rather than the traditional bo staff. that art is mostly for show. ive also trained in tae kwon do and have seen people use the weapons. when my TKD master taught me the forms i had no idea what purpose the moves served with the weapons.
Blah blah blah! Racism and casting people portraying different Races... Micheal Clark Duncan as Kingpin, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury & The Octopus... And stuff like that...
@NightStalker915 well the kingpin thing was wack i must admit, but the nick fury being black thing was changed by stan lee himself so its ok. its hard enough for black actors to get good roles so the kingpin thing is not too big, its not like they planned to make THREE other movies.
First of all. Kingpin and Nick Fury are not characters with culture context like Wonder Woman (as Greek Amazon of some sort). Their RACE IS NOT THEIR DEFINING TRAIT unlike WW or characters from LotR or ATLA. Not to mention Duncan got the size and look to play Kingpin and Jackson is known for roles of this nature. Having Blacks to play them does not diminish the characters.
***Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk worked for an Italian mafia leader in his days, but he is no Italian.
Okay, as a Chinese Martial Artist, having studied Wah Lum and Ying Jow Pai and a bit of Fu Jow Pai, I find it very insulting that you consider yourself a real "Chinese martial artist" yet have none of the respect, ethics, morals, or philosophies of a Chinese martial artist.
Dreamwalker makes a valid point, though. Most people that will watch the movie have no idea, and no real interest, in actual martial arts, except for X/MMA, which isn't even real martial arts.
@trivium666fan And how would you know that from watching one video exactly? I'm enjoying how ironic it is that you are suggesting that I am arrogant and lack the "real" morals of a Chinese martial arts stylist, because YOU "studied" Wah Lum kung fu and by default know more about the subject than me lol I would also like to know examples, you know something beyond a petty insult...
wait, did you say that Indians were being shot in Prince of Persia, guns weren't even invented at the time, sure there were cross bows BUT THE PERSIANS used them not the prince (but you wouldn't know that since you didn't see the movie).
@BigBis1337 You know when you get hit by a crossbow bolt or arrow it's called being SHOT right? That being said, I was kinda joking about them being "shot in the background"
Do you mind if i post this at IMDb? You explain it perfectly. I tried explaining this to those people that support the movie that so far from what I've seen the martial arts aren't authentic.
I'm not much of a martial artist myself... never tried it and never looked up much information about it... so I probably wouldn't have known if the movie did anything wrong in that regard. And I bet most people wouldn't know, and the movie creators know that.
@DreamwaIker I've spoken with a hollywood stunt coordinator and he explained more or less that there is a bias in hollywood for tae kwon do/XMA guys over wushu stylists, which is weird considering Jet Li is a wushu champion. If showed you a video of a Chinese staff expert next to XMA baton twirling, even without knowing much about martials, you would know one is real and one is not.
Avatar geek question. Since the fire nation had killed off all the airbenders (save ang) how (or could) the airbenders return. If ang were to die and he were the last airbender, would another airbending avatar be born once the avatar cycle completed? Is the propogation of the 4 nations genetic?
awsome vid...i had no idea it was loosly based on on a legend..cant wait for your scifi vids maybe u can do something with the forever war from one of your old vids, it sounded really interesting
