i work on skoda..... they arent as good as they make out. im driiving around in a skoda octavia rs 2.0l turbo and it goes nice. but there is a lot that can be improved on them

Ok that explains it :). In Europe it's very popular, so here, not knowing Skoda is like not knowing Volkswagen.

Is Skoda more like VW as a company? Are they mostly luxury cars? Sports cars? Economy cars?

Skoda is actually part of the VW group, and they have approximately the same target buyers as VW, only the cars are cheaper (for similar performances). They don;t really for for the luxury class though.
