An absolutely increadible book! amazingly written and beautiful. I don't think I've ever been so connected to a character and moved by a story, at least not in a long time. Louie is an amazing man and his story is unbelievable.
I "CONTINUE", I am not an idiot and my DNA comment sounds like I am an IDIOT! I swear as I sit in this chair, I cannot seem to understand what reason there is for their EVIL Ways. I know for sure people outside japan know what I'm saying and maybe in-side Japan Some research their culture & individual lifestyle(s). THE RAPE OF "NANKING" HOW can any HUMAN do that type of EVIL to a fellow HUMAN. I have been to war, and had a very rough life but, I, could never do that...I HOPE & PRAY I CAN'T?
I'm SORRY, I have to comment! I have about 75 more pages to read in the "UNBROKEN". The most intreging book I've read...maybr ever! Now, I have to make MY POINT! The Japanese areSPECIAL people and do wonder things in the world, BUT, they cannot hide what lives inside their culture. I have NEVER in all my YEARS of reading and evaluating "HUMAN-BEINGS". The Japs have a evil streak in their DNA of somewhere unknown to all? They have a COY way about their culture that they don't KNOW??? I guess?
Best story of character, courage and strength I have ever heard. And he is still alive and forgave the animals who abused him and all of our POWs in Japan. All men are not created equal, this man is special.
Listen to the book and louise is truly an inspiration. What he went tho was horrible. All u want to do though out this book is reach and help this poor man. This is a MUST read. Truly amazing book
Much more than another war story. This is a true, non-fiction account of man's indomitable spirit and will to survive in spite of tremendous obstacles. Very inspiring.
I have found the same answer in life as Mr. Zamperini. What an incredible ordeal ALL of these families went through. Unimaginable. My humble thanks to all of them for our freedom.
I could not put this book down. I don't usually like war stories but wow this was awesome. Sad but I have more respect for our military after reading this.
I'm only 13 but I just read this book and I got to say... It was the best book I ever read. I'v always been interested in world war 2, mostly the war in Europe, but after reading this I starting reading about the war in the pacific. This book mixed two of my worst fears, sharks and airplane crashes, and put it into something I'm interested in. I loved how Laura mixed facts, war, and love into one book. If anyone else has read a book similar to Unbroken please message me the title, I would reall
Ditto rhmooney3 comments...made me weep for the horrors of human evil. Any eutopian believer needs to read "Unbroken". What a wonderful story. Awesome.
@bandulasri sorry but you are missing the point. Hey, how about until you have Christ in your heart...try loving the people that do bad to you or your fellow man...I'm not getting an a yet in that department, but working on it. Tell me, you'll tryyyy/!?! Blessings to you and yours b andul.
@jonathanleavitt2 Google, "CBS The Great Zamperini." A brief portion of the interview with Watanage is in the fourth video. Chilling to his his face and hear him justifying his brutality.
I am afflicted with Multiple Scleros. It cost me a career as a Game Warden, which MS ended in it's infancy. Recently I became afflicted with another painful disorder, "Trigeminal Neuralgia". Very painful, and unpredictable, dare I say with "Bird" like attacks. I did not use the phrase "suffer from" in regard to either of those disorders. Mr. Zamperetti's suffering has put things in perspective for me. He suffered, I....I am afflicted, and will soldier on in honor of this heroes true losses.
While I admire Hillenbrand writing and loved "Sea Biscuit", Zamperini's updated autobiography "Devil At My Heels" is a better read than "Unbroken". CBS produced a great documentary on Louis for the '98 Nagano Olympics, which the producer and Bob Simon tracked down Watanabe. And if you like Louis' story check out Hero Found" - the Vietnam escape and life of Dieter Dengler.
They had a video of that piece of shiet, Mitsuhiro Watanabe "The Bird" interviewed by CBS news around 1998, and for some reason YouTube took it down. The guy basically denied everything, then sort of admitted the abuse by saying "it was war"...It was just incredible they found him. Damn that ticks me off they took it down, I just told a friend of mine who read the book I would email him the video.
Hello Is there anyway I could get a copy of the video? I have been looking all over for it and really would love to see it....I just got finished with the book....Very inspirational :)

Currently listening on Audible on my iPhone. When I'm not listening I'm dwelling on the story. A truly life changing saga.
