I don't rely on books. I've seen evidence in the cemetery, killed by spaniards, word of mouth passed from generations, writings in native, arabic and sometime spanish in the prison walls, fences and even church and convent walls that survived WW II. This is not result of American black propaganda or history written by the victor. My grandpa and his generation are also unforgiving of the Japanese and American atrocities.
Sadly today's generation haven't heard from those personal accounts and relied only on books that are written by American inspired authors and hence their credibility are questioned by those who benefited by the Brutal Spanish colonizations. Most of our generation has learned history that way, hence this hatred (like in the case of inkolning and his father) of Spaniards. I live in Spain and i know for a fact that the new generation of Spaniards admit and feel ashamed of their countries past colonial abuses.They are aware of this dark past and have a genuine sympathy towards the Phil. and the Filipinos. Somebody ridiculed Filipinos for eating dogs. It started back in the Spanish era when Spanish descent land owner take all of the rice harvest and leave only a few to the farmers as their share. In the sakada system where land owners provided food on credit, the farmers end up even indebted at the end of season. Eating frogs and dog meat etc were necessary. Present day dog eaters got that practice but today it's not justifiable anymore.

The only Universities they built like Santo Tomas and maybe 3 others in Manila and San Carlos in Visayas are for the elitists sons of hacienderos and encumienderos who are mostly Spanish descent. They never built roads and bridges just maintained old trails. And only very few distant schools for primary kids all teaching catholic education. Americans and Japanese are abusers of filipinos as well. But they mostly did it during wartime. Spaniards are considered to be cruel by nature even in times of peace. I'm not making this up. Men of my grandpa's generation would refer to Filipinos of Spanish descent as evil. Perhaps some of the stories were exaggerated but they have semblance of truth. One local story was about a Spanish priest who whipped a boy with a guava twig until the twig was worn out to a few inches left.

Yes Rizal was the perfect persona of our history. But not everyone knows his sentiments because no one cares about it anymore. Not everyone knows that he wanted the Philippines to be a provincial autonomy of Spain because he knew the islands weren't ready for battle. His was a preparation through prosperity and if that happens the Philippines can battle against Spain for independence. Spain was not as great as the 15th Century at his time. He was inspired by the Latin American revolutions.

Para España la perdida de Filipinas,Cuba y Puerto Rico suposo 'el desastre del 98' que ocasionó una perdida de confianza en sí misma como nación y que se prolongó hasta la guerra civil y posteriormente la dictadura. Si Filipinas es un país subdesarrollado es por culpa de los americanos, que siempre apoyaron a gobernantes corruptos que solo cuidaban su economía personal. Cuba es otro ejemplo, porque en su tiempo apoyaron a Batista (dictador corrupto y mafioso) , y luego con Fidel castro han aislado a ese país con un embargo brutal llevando a sus habitantes al borde de la hambruna.

I agree. What Former Sapnish colony today can be considered 1st world anyway? Mexico? Columbia, Peru? Paraguay? El Salvador? These people should not single out the Philippines as the only country that didn't develop after the Spaniards left. They have all been left as Struggling countries.
