  • Who built the trains ?

  • @jeffdarga100 DART Rail vehicles are manufactured by Kinkisharyo.

  • @DARTDallas Out of interest, who manufactures the whistles/horns found on the trains (are they Kinkisharyo or another company)?

  • @HCA10004 Regarding the Air Horn: Manufacturer: Nathan Manufacturing Division (NATHON) of Windham, Connecticut. Regarding the Whistle (a separate assembly): Manufacturer: Westinghouse Airbrake Division (WABCO) of Dallas, Texas.

  • @DARTDallas WOW! Thanks for the fast response! That's really cool how components of these things are built here in Dallas; it's great to see local products being utilized.

I ride the Green Line daily, and I gotta say that it is the best thing since sliced bread. Just because I'm a geeky, engineered-inclided physics student, do you mind giving the model number for the whistle assembly? They are my favorite part of my daily commute and I would love to learn more about them.

    Much Thanks!

  • @HCA10004 Our pleasure. The whistle assembly is Rebuilt Whistle Assembly (Mft Part # 10729-3001).

  • woot!

  • Wow, I never expected such a nice horn from a Light Rail.

  • Well, technically that is not the horn, it is the whistle. They do have a true train horn, but refrain from using it unless in an emergency situation.

  • The Stations look very nice. Can't wait till September. and next year when the Green Line comes a litte closer to my house n the Grove. The 842 Flex to Buckner or Lake June and just one train to Carrollton, how fun!

  • deep Ellums Walking man!
