Malsteem and Vai were able to stand on his shoulders to see father down the road and Page took from herbert sumlin, jimmy reed robert johnson jimmy rogers ect even chet atkins and of course Les paul. its art not wrestling oe theywear masks .wait a min didn't Vai do that too?
For all of you whom believe Page ranks e between the #2 and #10 best guitarist of all time, let me tell you I have been a guitarist for 30 years; and, I have played all the Hendrix, Sabbath, Vaughn, Clapton, and Frampton covers (to name a few), and Pages' guitar work is by far the most difficult to play and masterfully written and performed. I do not like the subjectivity of ranking a guitarist, but if I were going to rank Page, he would be ranked #1 hands down: it is not even close.
I place him and Jeff Beck neck and neck. But there's no one best guy - you could really argue for a lot of people that are technically more proficient, but maybe their music didn't connect with you as much.
I do not disagree with you, because trying to classify someone as "the best guitarist" or the best "athelete" or anything else similar is strictly subjective. That is why I said I do not like the subjectivity of rating a guitarist as #1 (the remainder was "my subjective opinion"). :-)
As a matter vof fact I have played both, but from your closed minded comment about "that's what I thought," I doubt you would believe anything. I stand by what I said, and you can believe it or not.
Um no Vai is not bald and if he was what would that have to do with anything anyway? And Malmsteen is no joke infact he's the best technical guitarist to ever live so show some goddamn respect.
Great interview, but I watched it primarily to learn more about the use of Jimmy's guitars: specifically his Danelectro. I have a newer Danelectro Convertible that I love, and I was hoping to glean some ideas from page from the prior use of his. If you happen to read this Jimmy, feel free to give me a holler. :-)
Unfortunately, I didn't bring up Danelectros in this, although I ended up owning a few several years afterwards. I think he mainly played it on Kashmir, and maybe Black Mountain side, tuned open.
This is nice i have a radio show too im gonna put some episodes on youtube soon but like i havent really had any guest stars yet... especially not Jimmy Page!!! but like i want to see if the Dropkick Murphies will call.
sometime if an artist has something to promote, like a show in town, you can contact their management and ask if they'll do a phone interview with you - the best is when they come by the studio, though.
1:15 creeps me out. I've never seen him with his eyes fully open, because every time you see him, he's squinting, ever now, he looks like an Asian Santa Clause
Sure my personal Nr. 1 is Jimmy Page. Not only because he's a guitar god. Because he's the coolest guitar player of all time. Some say he is a sloppy guitar player, but he usually was high at the concerts. And that's why we all love him....
An example of what people thought was sloppy was "Fool in the Rain" or "Hot Dog" from In Through the Out Door - but even those two solos are great. He is an icon - definitely in the top 3 of cool, if not sheer talent.
alaskae1234 Jimi Hendrix is one of the best musical preformers there ever was, he also does fantastic solos, clearly you have never seen the monterery pop festival and woodstock.
i compeletly agree. except what you said about hendrix. I bet u havnt restrung a guitar backwards when you were young. You obviously havnt seen woodstock
Rolling stone is a bullshit magazine. They know nothing. In my opinion he is the greatest guitar player. But to rank people is stupid. There is no number 1 guitarist.
Yes, you are right about the last two statements. There is no such thing is no.1 guitarist. What most of the avid music listeners forget is that songs are more important than virtuosity on one particular instrument. That's what I feel.
Yeah, that magazine is pretty bullshit for the most part. But at least they got something right putting Hendrix at #1. I'd say hendrix, beck, clapton, page, blackmore, and van halen should make up the top, as long as page's thrown in somewhere there i'd agree with it.
He is definitely in the top 3. But to me he has surpassed all the others, in what i appreciate in guitar playing. Still, Hendrix got the official title as the best. Thats fine.
I said "You were nice enough to share the songwriting credits - with the other two guys who were playing with Robert-" The band at the time was Page, Plant, and a couple of guys who had been in Plant's band.
Pagey receieved an OBE, Order of the British Empire medal, from the Queen Elizabeth for his establishment of a charity foundation for Brasilian orphans that he started with his wife, Jimena. She comes from Brazil.
I was too - since I had never seen Zeppelin live that was probably the closest I'll ever come. That was a kick-ass concert. Hopefully this one-off reunion show they are doing (in November)will turn into a tour. His hair is all white now - he looks like Dumbledore.
PagesAngel is putting together a book of all the comments of Led Zeppelin fans for Jimmy's birthday in January. - if you message her then you can possibly be in it.
Was she in the movie "Godzilla?" Because the song he did with Puff Daddy, excuse me, P. Diddy, was for that movie. A better question would be, what was he doing recording a remake of "Kasmhmir" with P. Diddy?
oh my lord it would be so awesome to actually TALK to that man. I'd pay like $200,000 for a guitar lesson from him. Ok, maybe not that much but that's beside the point the point is he's a god and and the #9 best guitar player of ALL TIME.
says who? rolling stone magazine? the magazine that broke up cream and trashed zeppelin? rolling stone sucks. they dont know anything. you cant say, oh this guy is number nine. complete bullshit
That's pretty wild man, he just called your show and was like "Hey John, what's happenin'" Does he know you because it seems as if you guys were long lost friends?
I wish! He was on tour with Robert Plant and I guess he was trying to sell a few extra tickets for the Albany date. The show did sell out as I recall - and it was awesome.
The apex of my existence was at the Myriad in Oklahoma City, June 4th, 1998. Jimmy Page looked at me. Except for my daughter being born, my life has been dull ever since.

There is no "best" in anything. There is only personal preference. Simply enjoy what you enjoy, without pointless comparisons.

hmmm, maybe pagey should check out the alternate take of WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS on youtube...
something tells me that's not the only viable outtake from the zep vault.
ahh, but i can't think of any "executive producer" i'd want in charge of zep releases.
