This is an excellent performance of this piece. The women have lovely blend, balance between parts, and intonation. The tempo feels a bit rushed for the emotion conveyed by the melody and text. A slower tempo and possibly more rubato would help to enhance the sense of longing conveyed in the text.
@iravendarknessi I agree. It's kinda nice to hear it not completely dragged down for once, though. But still, a little too rushed to convey the depth.
@ss74656 really? i think it may be the difference of a male or a female conducting. my high school director was male, and i had Dr. Reed for Maryland All State in 2010. When I sang this, we took it this speed, or maybe even a little faster.
It was good. Dynamics were very well performed, but I felt like there was not a lot of emotions put into it. Its about a man who wants to live a lone! Where there's peace, and tranquility!!!! He wants to appreciate and enjoy nature!! Its his dream!!!
CooL! Im in all state this year and we are singing this song. Check out my channel every1 and leave a comment if you think I should start a singing channel
I think the ending of this song is one of those beautiful things that only music people like. The is only conveyed by the subtle piano chords if you're paying 100% attention to the song.
From the delayed response in the applause, I get the feeling that most of the audience zoned out and didn't realize the song had ended.
Oh well, at least we enjoyed it, whether or not most of the audience clued in.
Oh my gosh. I completely agree! I have been playing piano for almost 10 years, and the girls in my choir just sang this song this spring. I fell in love with it, especially the accompaniment and the swell/split at 2:25-2:30 and the very long ending. The poem is one of my favorites (it is just beautiful), and the music conveys the wistful longing that Yeats felt when remembering this special place. This is a really hard song to play, too. The only thing I'd say is that it is a bit fast here.
@dillonkhoops i think they were so stunned by the performance they didnt even realize they werent clapping. this is a great performance and a great piece.
Outstanding

@0912rawr seconded on the counting bit.
I think the conductor was just really enjoying the fermata on the end of the score. :)

I sang this song as a part of the Texas All-District Choir. It is a gorgeous song. I hated counting it though.

It felt a bit fast. I've sung this with Eleanor conducting (she's our music director) and we took it maybe 1/3 speed in most sections.

I think there was a delayed response bc he hadn't put his hands down yet, that usually means the song will continue or just isn't finished yet
