Anybody like me, where you guessed that organ must be metal wheels making that sound somehow? I grew up with a Hammond tone wheel organ in the house and my dad explained it wasn't a wind organ...and left it at that. Years later I was listening to the radio and heard that same organ sound that we had and though, ' Man, that's metal making that sound somehow...'. Wasn't far off at all, but it's the metal wheels spinning in front of single magnetic pick-ups. Nothing sounds metal, but metal. Dig?
I'm just discovering Jimmy Smith over the last few months. It's a shame our culture is spoon-fed so much pop crap. This guy should be as famous and his tunes as well known as the Rolling Stones or the Beatles
It's funny how people like the old songs after they've heard the hip hop that samples it. Like Stetsasonic said "Rap brings back old R & B and if we would not people would've forgot". It's not stealing - it's a tribute.
as much as I love Beastie Boys ... I mean there's sampling and there's sampling! they basically took the track and rapped over it ... total rip off IMO
@matzazz well that's because the beasties just sampled a few bars of this so it's pretty much the same for the whole song, this is the source material, the full version

Live from 1972? Major kudos to the recording engineer for getting a nice clean sound, capturing the nuance of each instrument, and a great mix.
