Aristocracy means blue blooded pur person!I am European and my family are tru aristocrate by blood but people in US or Canada think you have to be a jack ass to be one! There are no aristocrate in US or Canada since they did nto have any Kings or Wueens and I assume that the title has a veyr negative meaning here in NOrth America. We have a normal average working life style but it is only that we liek to carry our names through history, taht is all!
l think you will find Joel Sweenny (usa) put the 5th string on (1873)The banjo is in a museum in Ca The banjo came over with the slave-trade called a Borack
Sweeney's famous for adding the FOURTH, bass, string--not the high 5th. Whether he "invented" it is another question..but he's famous for it. I think he was dead by 1873 BTW... & ...what's Borack?
Yes, Joel Sweeney died in 1860. And as you note, he either added or popularized (most likely the latter) the long bass string (what we now call the 4th string), not the short thumb string (our 5th string). Sweeney and other minstrel musicians did help establish the five-string banjo as the "standard" form of the instrument. As best we can tell before the 1840s its most common form had four strings - three long and one short.
What a truly great band they are. I hope to se them someday. And greetings to all from The Glendessary Jam: Old-Time jam group from Santa Barbara, Ca.
I just saw these guys this weekend. I can't describe how wonderful they are live, like nothing you'd expect. I was moved by their music... really. I am a total fan now.
You know I don't know why I did not dig deep into my memory bank, but yes Afrikkans did invent the banjo along with many other instruments. Thanks for waking me up.
These Choclate Drops are GREAT!!!! Love it....When y'all comin' to Texas? Dallas to be specific.
