Diddy Kong Racing was made when Twelve Tales was big. So conker was all cute and mario-like with gameplay, voice etc etc.

But Conker Twelve Tales didn't get released. and conkers BFD was made instead. and they made him like this... awesome.

I think the basic idea was that nothing was really riding on it, so the other guy upped the bet.
