I'm just starting out as a makeup artist, should I avoid silicone-based airbrush makeup just in case? I have water-based at the moment but I do find silicone-based easier to work with..

Oh. I use the MAC matte primer which is also silicone based and I don't experience any problems because of it, so I guess i can use silicone based foundations for airbrushing, right?

I used to be an Airbrush Illustrator in the 80s and i thank you very much for your tips on make up. I would like to also give you some advice: try wrapping the hose around your wrist once, that way you will have much more steady control on the movement as the hose won't be pulling your hand down, as the hole arm will be holding it. I hope you understand.

Thats great - except my hose is not long enough to wrap around my arm. I think its designed for makeup airbrush.

OK, but you don't need to wrap around completely, just let it go from under your hand over your wrist and fall from your wrist to the compresor, it is not really a complete twist, just enough so the weight of the hose rests loosely on your wrist and the hose won't pull your airbrush down, you'll feel it much lighter and will have more control. I don't think this has anything to do with the kind of airbrush you use or the lenght of the hose, as it won't make it shorter. Just try it.
