Fine demo, Andy. This is probably the warmest, roundest, most musical phase pedal I've heard. Great Trower/Gilmour vibe. Also, this is by far the best sounding phaser I've heard while set at full speed...Excellent...Maxon makes great stuff. Add this one to my 'must get' list!
I like this better than the MXR ones. It's a bit warmer. It may be a bit mellow, but it can be make more intense by tweaking controls on the inside. Set 'er up to the intensity and frequency you like once and you'll be good to go. Maxon makes good stuff.
I have an original one of these, it was my dads. It still says, " patent pending" on the back and it only runs off 9 volt batteries, it has no input for a power supply. I really like the sound of it, but it can get kinda choppy sometimes. Sounds great turned down really low and with some distortion.
I have an original Ibanez Phase Tone from the 70s and they really have captured the tone on this Maxon version! I really think this is the best phaser out there, it's 'the' tone for me.
Well, in general, phaser effects are much slower. A really fast, low depth phaser would be comporable to a chorus. Essentially, a chorus is 'shimmery' whereas a phaser is 'whooshy'.
"This is more like an Original Phase 90 than the phase 90 remakes of today are"
Im very happy with it.
I run the rate Knob at about 11 o'clock and have not fiddled with the internal trim pots.
I also like the fact that the 9V adaptor input is at the top of the pedal like all my other Boss pedals and not on the side like the MXR ones (my ZW O/D)
i probably wouldn't spend £110 for a new Maxon , but its a great phaser. Total keeper, along with my EH Sovtek Small Stone & DOD 201 & FX-20 Phasors. (others i've owned and gotten rid of for reference: USA small stone, EH black small stone, Boss PH-1r, PH-3, Phase 90, DOD FX-20C Phaser, DOD 201, Nebula, Rocktron Orange Peel).
just used mine after ordering from the us (thet are both rare and expensive here). very similar to an mxr script 90 but it just seems to have a litle something else. to put a point on it my drummer was in awe of the tone it makes. it really does pack out a lead when in front of your chosen o/d distortion pedal and the elusive v/h tone is no problem at 9o'clock on the dial. i deliberated ages over a script mxr and this, and to be honest,i couldn't have chosen better! hope this helps someone!

Hey I've heard this pedal produces a volume drop. Is that true?

That's because Maxon originally made Ibanez pedals. This basically is the original Phase Tone from the 70s

@jjuup I also have the Ibanez Phase Tone from the 70's:D Maxon have totally ripped it. It would be nice with a LED though.

What a sweet sounding phaser. I love how clear it sounds, the internal trim pots are the icing on the cake with this pedal.
