i was actually at this match-it turned out 4-1 to united,i ran on the pitch when denis scored with an overhead kick,and was taken to the police cells inside the ground-a scary experience for a 12 yr old boy-we won the league that year of course,nottingham forest were runners up! I think the flags and banners were banned because too many were being brought in and it was a police issue

I think the flags may have been banned because the sticks were deemed `offensive` weapons?... About fans on the pitch, I remember years ago it was a regular occurence to see fans dash the full lenghth of the pitch from the Scoreboard End to the Stretford End before the game to the amusement of the crowd as they tried to out-run the police. I also saw 2 skinheads doing `target practice` with Stepney followed by attempted rugby tackles by the police. I think they got away, one minus his jumper !
