I didnt think it was boring at all. I've been more or less familiar with the DotA/HoN items throughout the years but never really had the chance to sit down & go through them or learn them since I never played DotA outside the odd LAN party years ago & I didn't play HoN that much before switching to LoL. The point is, this was really helpful to fill in the missing pieces for me & I liked how you gave tips on some of them, talking about heroes & how you could make use of that specific item! GJ :D

So like, what's the point of building damage if your primary stat already gives you attack damage? Why wouldn't you just build more stats?

@hyperblast81 because stats are more expensive then just buying direct dmg items. For example..im a strength hero, so i gain 1 atck dmg for 1 str stat right? Well the problem there is 1str stat is WAYY more expensive then 1 atck dmg stat.

why?

because 1 str stat doesn't only give dmg...it also gives other attributes like HP increase and HP regen.

same as int and agi.

int gives mana/agi gives atck speed etc

so its logical that one stat (str/agi/int) would be more expensive than one dmg stat.

@hyperblast81 Therefore u need a balance of your hero's main attribute items like str items/agi items/ or int items...PLUS you need solid dmg items in the case of being a carry or semi carry. its all about a balance when it comes to something like that. but its a lot more complicated cuz items have abilities too..so u gotta keep those in mind...etc etc

Gank = gangbang? when you walk to another lane to attack the enemy. eg "Mid ganked Bot" The mid hero walked from mid lane to bot lane and attacked the enemy on bot lane =)

This is a great video Purge, really helpful. I'm semi-new to DotA and I know all the items and usual builds, but it was great hearing your much more experienced opinion on them and comparison of stats/cost, etc - which I had never considered.

Dumb question that I think I know the answer to but will ask anyways - say a Windrunner gets Orchid, I get the 45 damage plus 20 int, so I get a total of +65 dmg, right? Same goes for the mana regen on that item

I have to say, i use to play dota, stoped it and got back with dota 2, there is some heroes and items that i don't know because the're "new" for me and it was actually a good intro / reminder so thanks and i'm sure it will be helpfull for all the newbies and the old ones coming back.

you kinda glazed over this, but force staff can be used on any targetable unit, so you can save allies (like you mentioned), but you can also use it on enemies if they're out of position and facing your team to push them into your teammates.

Consider the amount of time you took, Purge, researching characters, builds, theorycrafting items and analysing hero strategies when you were still new to DOTA. This is somewhat of a mini-crashcourse for the people who are interested in DOTA.

While it may have been boring for you I appreciate this brief analysis of the items and hope for even more summaries in the future and you expanding more on the role as teacher, not just commentator. You have a lot of knowledge I think you should share it!

You need to do MORE of this stuff, very awesome. It's easy to look at the items and stats as a new player. But it's much harder to know their place in the game with regards to heroes and value.

I think that's not true. Only Agility points buff attack speed by percentage. Items that buff attack speed like Hyperstone buff attack speed by the fixed value 55, not 55%.

Where you maybe show or explain in depth some items that you might have forgotten about (like that Manta Style removes most debuffs when used or the Bloodstone ability, which is actually written there, but you know, just for the record), and maybe show some interesting examples like "initiating" with force staff by pushing the enemy towards you etc.

Hey purge me and my friend recently got Dota 2 and we came from hon following guides and after playing for about 6 months i know every item in game and what to buy with every hero but when playing dota 2 the only thing to go buy is suggested items maybe if you did a video series about a good item build for each hero it would help out alot since the in game one can only be editted by yourself.

Ah, not watched yet but should be of great help. Never played DotA, but have been trying to learn as much as I can whilst watching games so I'm not totally useless when I finally do. :P

Items were probably the biggest source of confusion up to now (identifying statistics to individual item names, what components make a higher tier item, how to work out which items to think of using in certain situations etc.) so this should clarify a lot.
