hes kinda slow and not that strong. but his size, awareness, phenomenal tackling skills, and his ability to put himself in a position to make the play make up for that.
This kid has an outside shot at rookie of the year. I couldn't believe he went so late in the draft. It seems like he's doing a better job of getting off of blocks now. I think that was the one concern scouts had leading up to the draft, but he has made the adjustments necessary to play in the NFL.
This is one of the classiest players I have ever met. He did a lot of great charity work in C-Bus, and I'm sure he will continue to be a leader in the community and on the field.
JWall, you are an idiot. We needed an impact MLB and we got one. One forced fumble and 2 interceptions, as well as improving skills in coverage and a leader for the Rams' Defense in years to come. Also, Mark Sanchez is an interception machine.
I mean, I was pissed about not drafting Maualuga at first, but Laurinaitis has been great. And I freaking go to USC right now.
Sean Lee, dan connor, paul posluslzny, lavar arrington, jack ham, and there are alot more. why do you think they call us LineBacker U! think they dont call ohio state that now do they
The guy is going to be a monster. Assuming he stays healthy he is going to lead all rookies in tackles and be the DROY. He also had a pick the other day in only his fifth career game. Going to be a great player.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
my rams should of drafted sanchez and maualuga. sure lauranitus has 10 more tackles than Rey, but Reys playing OLB and u dont get as many chances to get tackles as MLBs. maualuga has 2 forced fumbles and a sack. maualuuga=impact player. My Rams=moron organization. Next year we need to trade Steven Jackson and a 2nd round pick to the browns for a 1st rounder so we can draft Jahvid Best (if he comes out) and if he doesnt get Dez Bryant and Sam Bradford in the first round.
Sam Bradford will meet with the media on Wednesday to discuss his shoulder injury and presumably his NFL future, we'll see then. if not i would go after Dez Bryant-1st round, (trade Jackson) get-Jahvid Best-1st round, Jevan Snead-2nd round, Chris McGaha-3rd round, Walter Thurmond CB, Oregon-4 round, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE, Washington-5round, Brandon Carter, OG, Texas Tech-5round(from Eagles), Kyle Calloway OT, Iowa-6, Dominique Harris, S, Temple-7.
first time playing contact and my coach sasy this is my position, played eight man in rugby, should be fun. We've been given two weeks from our first practice until our first game. Gonna be sweet, any tips?
RAMS! I saw him play live when my Trojans whooped the Buckeyes at the Coliseum last season! We're coming to Ohio to whoop that ass again! Ah! College! Fight On Trojans! Go Rams! Laurinaitis shall Pro-Bowl. Thanks OSU!
I'm an OSU fan, and I have to say that while James was an excellent college player, I don't see him becoming a pro-bowler in the NFL. I think he'll be a good player and a starter for about 10 years, much like AJ Hawk. He's just doesn't possess the wingspan it takes to really wrap up and dominate NFL sized running backs. Certainly one of my favorite players while I was in school though, he's a terrific guy, and again, a fantastic college player.
Such an appropriate name for him, and not just because of his dad's wrestling nickname..... # 33 was really an ANIMAL on the field. Congrats to the Rams for getting him in the draft. Us Buckeye fans are sorry to see him leave us and wish him VERY well. GO LITTLE ANIMAL
what happened to that amazing run game by michigan that was supposedly supposed to be unstoppable. Didnt they have single digit run yards after 3 quarters against ohio state? lol Michigan sucks ass. big hairy ones too.
Think Chris Long, and James Laurinaitis coming at the quarterback,I am amazed on our players,we have fresh defensive players, and there out to prove were not giving up that extra inch what so ever,Lets go RAMS!!...2009 is gonna be A great year for my Lou Team,we got what it takes with these great players.
Maualuga would not fit in their system and laurinitas is a wrestler type line backer (when he gets hold of you it's over) maualuga is a wrecking ball (perfect for cincy)
Mauluga not fit Spags system?!?!?!? Rey is an aggressive fucking beast and thats what spags needs. But i must admit James Laurinaitis is pretty damn good too but i honestly think Rey will be Defensive rookie of the year and an NFL star. Good luck with him!!
He's got the same intensity as Kevin Greene, and if he's half the player that Kev was then I'll be a happy Ram. He'll be pretty angry & pissed off that he was only taken in the 2nd round too ~ that ought to amp the animal up even more!!!
i remeber watching him last year and wanting him on the rams, but with all the hype i thought hed be gon in the top 20...thank goodness he ran a slow 40 time lol..GO RAMS!!
James Laurinaitis Is way better than Rey Maualuga. Rey is commercial to me, but one thing for sure is that USC has produce some great D players, or, just players. But thank Spagnuoulo he got James! I feel James is more NFL ready, and we needed Will Weatherspoon to go back to his OLB position like in Carolina. He plays angrier! lol
We needed a smack mouthed QB on defense. There's no way Linrhan and the old regime would've drafted guys like Jason Smith and Laurinatis, they're too angry.
will be an impact player, so its the other teams lost....All 3 LBs from USC are sick nasty to, i guess we will just have to wait to see which LB prospers.
and i bring to you the next denver broncos linebacker him and d.j. Williams well dominate next year. hope we get b.j. raji at number 12 and him at 18. farwell cutler good luck
u have very good football iq and i respect that. im not a denver fan but him at 18 and raji at 12 would make denver superbowl contender 4 years to come. but i doubt raji fall that low...
He atcually ran a 4.7 range at the combine. That is a lot faster than 5. Yes he is no Aaron Curry in terms of speed, but the guy is so instintive. He will translate into a great MLB in the NFL. He is Brain Urlacher Jr.
He may be slower than most linebackers but if you saw the combine he ran around a 5 in the 40 thats not that slow its slower than most like i already said but he makes up for it in his awareness because he always knows where the ball is going if you have that you dont need the speed of a corner. He also has badass strength that i can guarantee most linebackers going to the draft this year would have a hard time measuring up to.
i agree with invictus98. he's a great player and just about one of the most physical lb ive ever scene. i think players should'nt always be judge on 40 times. ya he may be slow as crap but he's a monster.
i like how all the nfl draft has become is the "40-time" apparently if your not fast then your not good, i guess guys like jerry rice and tony gonzalez would be drafted pretty late now these days becuz their "40-time" was bad, you've got to be kidding me, laurinaitis has had a great career...film is what matters BUT since we go on 40-time you have ass clowns like vernon davis go top-5...wait.....who???
he ran a 4.8 which is still slow but not terrible for a linebacker...he could help out a team such as oh idk.....the colts with their linebacking core
I like this kid, but I feel he'd be a good fit as a 4-3 MLB at the NFL level rather than a 3-4 ILB. As a Charger fan however, I think Ron Rivera would love to have him on our defense simply because he reminds him a lot of Brian Urlacher. How ironic it would be to cut Matt Wilhelm and replace him with another (but BETTER) former Buckeye ILB, lol.
You mean Zack Follett out of Cal? I hear that the Bolts have been talking to him a lot lately, and it's obvious that Rivera would spark interest in him being a former Golden Bear himself, lol.
(Cont'd #2) MLB in my opinion because he does lack that compact frame and he think he's more of a weakside 'backer that can just react more and use his instincts as opposed to calling out the plays for the entire defense.
He does tackle well in the open field. I don't think being a middle 'backer plays to his strengths.
Could be a even more productive version of AJ Hawk or could fall flat because of the glarings cons like his teammate Bobby Carpenter.
*8 Didn't help himself his last yr. And his stock was sky high after last season.I do commend him for coming back though cause I think he learned to be more fundamentally sound this year.
You don't have to go far for the guy he looks like as of THIS moment, it's former Buckeye LB AJ Hawk.
Laurinatis has the ability to drop back and has good enough hands to cause some TOs.
What I like most is he has his dad's tenacity and has great closing speed when he gets a lane.
I really don't believe in that "number...is too high to pick this player" thing.
If a guy fits your most urging need then it doesn't matter in which position you'll pick him.
The Raiders most urging need is to stop the run so Laurinaitis is (in my opinion) the better guy for that role (Raji or Orakpo if they go with the D-line).
It remains to be seen if Maualuga is an every down player or if he's gonna be sitting down on 3rd down.
Drafting Laurinatis at #7 is a bit too early plus if Raiders were to draft an ILB it would be Rey Maualuga from USC otherwise i think theyre drafting Jeremy Maclin or Michael Crabtree
Hear How Far They Put Him In The Draft? Thats Some Bull Saying Hes Going 28th. Ohio State Has Malcolm Jenkins,Beanie Wells And James Laurinaitis All Going NFL.
poor kid didnt show up for that usc game LMAO!!!!!

him late in the 1st RD. They just signed Boley, which is a BIG pickup @ weakside LB, plus it's a band-aid for Pierce and his "diminishing skills"

I hope the Giants pick him.

Defintely worth a late 1st flier.

Isn't an ideal..

He needed to go to the senior bowl. But he fucked that up. Good luck Laurinaitis.

Laurinaitis will be a great pick for the Raiders at #7 !
This guy's a beast who will boost our D in an instant.
Tsume04 2 years ago
Drafting Laurinatis at #7 is a bit too early plus if Raiders were to draft an ILB it would be Rey Maualuga from USC otherwise i think theyre drafting Jeremy Maclin or Michael Crabtree
