Pete's game has nothing going for it on clay. You can see this easily in this match and any others at Roland Garros. His results there were terrible and he basically quit even TRYING at Roland Garros in the middle of his career. He wasn't stupid. He realized it was a total WASTE of time. Federer's the best of all time. Sorry Sampras Worshippers.

Pete actually played decent at the French the first half of his career. A semi final and a bunch of quarter finals. He lost some speed in the second half of his career which is why he quit trying and training as hard for it. But his overrall record on clay was 90-54, not terrible, and with the exception of Nadal, Sampras had more competition on clay.

I couldn't disagree more fromanotherstar. I'll take Davydenko, Nalbanian, Djokovic, David Ferrer, and of course Nadal (The best clay courter EVER!) any day over the guys in the 1990s. When Roger loses two Finals in 4 sets with a tiebreak or two, Pete doesn't even get to a final and wouldn't EVER take a set from Nadal. He would get DESTROYED. He did great in '96, and that was it! Time will show Federer was better.

I agree with fromanotherstar I'd like to see Federer beat Thomas Muster and Jim Courier after being down 2 sets to love at the FO. The reason Sampras had a hard time on clay was his disease imo. You could clearly see that he didn't enjoy playing at the FO but the skills to win it was definetly there.

How many RG winners did Federer beat?

He gets trashed every time by Nadal and Guga beat him like a drum in 2004 when Guga was not even at his best.

He only beat an injured Carlos Moya in 2005 when Moya couldnot even serve at more than 150km/h.

amigo Sampras es junto con Federer y Borg los mejores jugadores de la historia. El chino no llega ni a los primeros 50 de todos los tiempos. El chino lamentablemente nunca gano un torneo de grand slam en su corta trayectoria. Pero concuerdo contigo que McEnroe, Chino y Federer son son los jugadores más talentosos que he visto en mi vida. Lástima que el chino nunca desarrollo todo su potencial.
