  • OUTSTANDING!!!! The drums are perfectly tuned. My grandson will be studing your technical style, by the way he is only 9. He is taking lessons to learn the importance of reading. Thanks again.

  • Kickin job ! Take look at at my video and see what muscle memory will do after a 25 year break. But after watching your video it's clear I've got a whole lot of work to do to get my chops back :)

  • Hey, Martin. I made a video of myself playing drums.

    I'll send you the link.

  • Excellent

  • very nice -tight and clean

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW......;o)..

  • D-A-M-N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jtabares1 Thank you Joe and keep working on the doubles, your technique works really well for you, all the best from England

    Martin

  • very nice, very impressive (redundant comments, but still)...your drum students are extremely lucky to have you as an instructor. hopefully a few of them will play drums long enough realize how extremely lucky they are.

  • Sweet!

  • such a nice snare!

  • wow very nice playing, very impressing, I was wondering what snare you've got, it sounds great and looks it too :)

  • @drummerdudeandy thank you very much and to answer your question, the snare is a Mapex 'Black Panther' with 24 karat gold hoops/hardware and black brass shell, although the Sonor matching white birch snare sounds great as you say this snare records and plays so well.

    Thanks again for the comment

    Martin

  • @mart22222 Im not a drummer not even close but I am so impressed with your technique I am in awe of your abilities as a drummer

  • dude, thats one of the best drumming I have ever seen on youtube. Hope I could as good as you one day

  • keep it up

  • This is fantastic, you sir have made my day

  • wow man!!!!!

  • Can you break down the fill you do at 31 seconds? its great!

  • @StraightNoChaser86 It's basically a displaced open roll but the notes it's played over are a bit tricky to break down, give me a couple of days and I'll write it out and send it to your inbox.

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you liked the vid

    Martin

  • Oh, my Gosh!

That's the most greatest drumming I EVER heard!!!!!!

    Classic!!!!

  • Great Job!!!

  • So Cool!!!

  • Nice video Martin, you play the drums as good as you play Medal of Honor. All the best Dave (Nitro_0xide)

  • Hi Mart I have just posed a question on the Drum Head Blog on my site, and it's directed at you. Lets get drummers talking..........

    Cheers

    Petar

  • Outstanding! t's great to see real drummers, a dying breed. Are you in a jazz band?

  • Thanks for your comment and no I'm not in a big band at the moment but I've been pro since the age of 16 and served my apprenticeship if you like in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra so musically I 'teethed' on this stuff so to speak.

Thanks again and I'm glad you enjoyed the vid.

    All the best

    Martin

  • Awesome !

  • @hemphogs2000 Thanks frags

  • Sounds great, especially the snare, is that gold rimmed?

    Keep playing Man, you're amazing!

  • Thanks and yes the snare is a Black Panther black brass shell with 24 karat gold hoops, looks lovely but does dent after a few months of rimshots but still my my favourite snare drum.

    Thanks again

    Martin

  • @mart22222

    Very Nice!

I am looking for the actual notes for this master piece, if there is one could you send me a link?

    Thanks!

    Samuel

  • And I was tired of hearing the same old "superspeed" version of "Give It One" as performed by MF and others, so I'm happy to hear the original again and great drumming dude.

  • By the way, did you mask out the original drums on your recording?

  • No, Randy Jones is lurking beneath my drum mix I did however transcribe and play the first two solos pretty much note for note (I think) and if you listen carefully you'll hear the original mix bleeding through.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment

    Martin

  • Great stuff man, thank you.

  • You should do do Birdland my Maynard!

  • I've been thinking about it so keep watching and thanks for the comment

    Martin

  • be sure u got my respect!

its absolutely not my music, but u play it as if u were flying over the set xD!

if u might once play metal let me see a vid of=)

greetings from metalcore front germany xD

  • WOAHH!!

    AWESOMEE

    good quality sound

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

    Martin.

  • you are so incredibly good , i may never get to that standard of good and im only 13 years old

  • Hey you've already got a years headstart on me, I was 14 when I started playing drums, keep practicing and more important keep loving the instrument, that's all it takes really.

    Thanks for the compliment.

    Martin.

  • In my opinion the perfect drum sound!!!!Complimenti!!!!!!!Good good good!!!!!Great!!!!

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

  • Dude why did you take the slower version off ?

  • It was streaming in slow motion but I've put it back on and it's fine now, you should find it on my channel

    all the best

    Martin

  • You are an AMAZING DRUMMER

  • Thank you.

  • Well, lively I suppose but not as insane as it may seem, I saw MF play it it live at a concert once and that was almost the limit (I thought) but check out the one in my favourites, actually I think it's too fast but a young Peter Erskine really holds it together, not insane but unimaginable.

Thanks for both your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the vids

    Martin

  • [scuse my english, I'm french]. Great !!! I like your job on the "normal tempo, here is really impressive too. As say "leglobishfcbg" this faster tempo cover sound well even if it strange to hear dubba-C for high A (I think you speed up the record with a tape machine not a computer program). "Give it one" seams to be one of your favourite tunes, I see you make your students work it (the young child who plays it on ther other clip would become a great drummer with a teacher like you).

  • Well thank you and thanks too on behalf of Craig (the student on Give it One).

Yes I've loved that track ever since I bought MF Horn 2 circa 1970, then I saw Maynard play it much faster i 1980 so decided to increase the speed and then play along for the buzz and it truly was great to play at that speed.

Sorry about the pitch but short of hiring 23 musicians to do it for real this was the only way I could do it.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again.

    Martin

  • Actually it's not...heck even Windows Media Player can speed up tunes without changing pitch

  • I wrote a reply earlier and I really thought you were wrong but actually you're right oh well.

  • The only problem is don't think it can be saved at that speed and my laptop doesn't have enough output to get a decent mix on the desk, anyway I used Steinberg 'Clean' software and to be really honest I wasn't even thinking about the pitch change, I just wanted to play to it at a quicker speed.

  • Well you could just play it back at the faster speed, then use audacity to record the output.

  • Thanks I'll look into that although since you made me aware of that I realised that I could've recorded from line out to minidisc as well, anyway thanks for the tips.

    Martin

  • Martin-I got to see an earlier version of your performance on this. As before, I got to see Maynard 7 times or so in concert-you absolutely NAILED this-terrific job! In fact, I like to show this video to my 12-year-old son so he can get a better idea of how complex good drumming can be.

  • really exelent !!!! amazing bro..

  • Good Stuff man. That is some real talent you got.

  • GROOOOVY!! (^_^)

  • bonne performance, avec le tempo plus rapide Maynard Ferguson sonne aussi bien. Et les contre la (high A) deviennent des bi contre ut (double C)

  • Not many people seem to be commenting on this so... THAT WAS AWESOME!!!

  • this is awsome. Maynard was one of my favorite musicians, and I'm interested in learning drums/percussion. Can you recommend any of the DVD tutorials I see out there?

  • It really depends on what you want to learn, I think a good alround and practical dvd is Greg bissonette's on big band phrasing but if it's technique you are looking for there are so many and they are all good, Moeller stroke for instance i'd suggest anyting by Jojo Meyer although at the end of the day 1 to 1 drum lessons from a good teacher are still worth the cost.

    Martin.

  • SENCILLAMENTE EXELENTE =O

  • Thanks to all.

    Martin

  • this is off the hook

    maynard would be impressed

  • incredible as always (;
