  • i bet the 6 people that disliked this are UGLY!

  • I CAN DO NOTHING BUT WATCH FLO

  • Wow...Florence, was not fat. She had a DAMN good figure, in this performance Mary looks bigger than, Flo or Diana

  • @Hoopz10001 Neither Mary Nor Florence Was Fat They Had A Shape SomeThing Diana Doesnt Have(Not Hating Just Being Honest) They Both Have Hips, Butt, & Titties Florence Didnt Get Fat She Just Got Thicker In Those Areas I Guess They Wanted Her To Be As Small As Diana But She Couldnt Help It She Was Born That Way

  • Oh man, what treat to hear The Supremes sing live while sharing one mic.....& get an incredible bonus of witnessing James Jamerson backing them up.

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS---- SO EPIC==SO CLASSIC==SO FINE======= guess i'm not your average white boy, my girlfriend is jealous of my like for them, ha

  • Wonderful clip. Thank you for the great post!

  • It says "1965" right at the beginning of the clip, not '64.

  • It's a tad nipply in there.

  • Who ever picked the name for the group sure got it right.

  • @jjmnky

It was Florence Ballard who picked the name...;)

  • @jjmnky ... Florence picked it!

  • Inspired.

  • Real performers, who don't need a leotard to distract from the quality of their voices..

  • one microphone for all 3 of them! That says it all .Great stuff

  • Does anybody know what show they were on?

  • That's Bernard Purdie on the drums - driving that groove in a way the studio drummer was never able to do.

  • @TheIntruders

Funny I had no idea that Bernard Purdie was picking up chump change in Detroit, Dec. 1964 playing live gigs at the Fox Theater for the Motown Review with the rest of the Funk Brothers! The drummer is 100% Uriel Jones. @ 1:27 you can see the letters "UJ" on the bass drum. Check out the video Come See About Me live 1964 Fox Theater Detroit. Same arrangement...same drummer.

  • "Make sure you end on Diana's face" - Barry Gordy

  • @TheIntruders This cracked me the hell up!! Sounds just like him.

  • Who took Love Child & Someday We'll be Together over the Top? ,No "Supremes" on Either Tune,

  • Notice how important to the song the backup vocals are. Diana was the lead but by no means was she the only talented one. Cyndi, Flo and Mary added wonderful accompaniment that took the songs over the top.

  • Yes Detroit, Miss Mary was far more Glorious when she was smart enough to stick with the Ooh's, Ahh's & Basic Hand Clapping

  • Mary Wilson is absolutely glorious here!

  • Berry admired Talent, Drive, Ambition & a Stong Work Ethic, He avoided STD's at All Cost, Thats why he took a Pass on Miss Mary

  • Mary Wilson was the hottest looking in the group why would Berry pick Diana?

  • @suportable True but Diana was more eager.

  • Happy late bday flo

  • Happy Birthday "Flo" We love you

  • I want to marry Mary............

  • Miss Ross is to R&B what Brian Wilson is to rock so stop hatin

  • LOL @ Diane Ross nearly having a wardrobe malfunction one of her straps almost fell don

  • To the people pointing out James Jamerson on bass I don't think that's him doesn't looklike him

  • @coolsweetgroovy That's definitely James Jamerson. He's even using the "Hook".

  • @stu0812 That's him?

  • @bigbear39ca I just noticed that too. lol

  • Which is flo and which is Mary?

  • @rightguardsuperstar Flo is on the left and Mary on the right.

  • yes they are extremely beautiful and not vulgar . That is what I like about them!

  • The girls were total class! The cadillac of Motown

  • Simply Wonderful !!!!!

  • Flo is gorgeously beautiful, R.I.P. Blondie

  • These girls did this song. Flo melts my heart with that big gorgeous smile, I love Diana's flirty faces, and Mary's sexiness is shining in this video. I love Mary and Flo's harmony in this song. They each brought something to the table.

  • @ForeverFlorenceB I couldn't agree more with everything you said. It's too bad that in time Flo and Mary were relegated to the background. It couldn't have been what Diana wanted either. Their act was always controlled so much by others. But it's wonderful that we have these performances forever.

  • @terrybeaton I definitely agree with you there. From the things I have read, Flo and Diana remained friends even after Flo's ouster. Gordy was all about control, and he controlled every aspect of his employees lives through underhanded and deceptive contracts that most of the artists never even read. It is extremely sad, but it did produce the greatest music the world has ever heard.

  • Flo should have been front and center since she is the best looking!

  • Mary Wilson is so beautiful.

  • diana sounded wonderful live. but mary needed to get closer to the mic i only hear diana and flo :(

  • Best version on the tube for me, live, not dubbed, synced or messed about with , just a great early piece showing the girls and band having fun, still love Mary btw my favourite Supreme. Thanks for this.

  • I can't stop watching this. This is my favorite, right now. I think if i were around back then, i would have put the moves on Flo. OMG.

  • James Jamerson who? all I see on bass is someone who lookslike Stevie Wonder's dad

  • @coolsweetgroovy Jamerson who? Simply the greatest bass player of all time on bass. A rare video of him at work.

  • @Kenteman Ok I guess this must also be the only vid of him sober because you know what killed him

  • @coolsweetgroovy It is well known his alcohol addiction sadly killed him. Ulysses S. Grant, Ernest Hemingway & Winston Churchill were also alcoholics. It doesn't take away their greatness and their mark in history.

  • @Kenteman yeah you're right

  • Why does it look like Diana is the only one wearing a bra? LOL It's not as obvious with Mary but Flo

  • @coolsweetgroovy I think they all had those weird pointed bras of the era. Flo might have had more nipple than the pads could handle.

  • @jeditwinz I think you're right

  • @coolsweetgroovy I like those. How about you?

  • @jeditwinz Same here at least they had clothes on compare that to now

  • @coolsweetgroovy Yeah, nothing but class there. Last group I can recall that had that was En Vogue

  • @jeditwinz You're right P.S. There's a group on the scene that has class you might have heard of them Wilson Phillips

  • @coolsweetgroovy Oh yeah. I meant in R&B. Too many booty shakers now in the field.

  • @jeditwinz I agree

  • OMG I can see Flo's nipples through her dress wardrobe mafunction, but judging from Flo's face she didn't care LOL RIP Flo

  • Mary Wilson(Far right) if her name sounds familar to anyone should not be confused with Marilyn Wilson who was Mrs. Brian Wilson 1 Mary and Marilyn are both still gorgeous. Mary never was married to him. Diana I think still teases her about it LOL

  • For those not familiar with the concept, those people in the background are the actual BAND playing WITH the Supremes ON STAGE...something never seen these days!!! This is when TRUE talent existed!!!

  • @MsIamWoman --You got that right. That is the Funk Brothers right out of Motown Studio "A". You have Earl Van Dyke on piano, James Jamerson on bass, Robert White on lead guitar and I think Pistol Allen on drums. I wish the camera/director would have got some shots of this band. LOTS of talent up there folks!

  • @jimmyfinlayson Pistol on drums. He played the best shuffle of all the Motown drummers. Nice shuffle on this tune.

  • LOL @ Mary and Flo wondering Diana Who you looking at in the audience?

i'm also wondering if Brian Wilson was in the audience Look at that big smile and how she's looking staight in the audience

  • i wish tyler perry would make a movie based on florence ballard's life. the way motown's berry gordy deogged her. the true story should be told.

  • @1410park A movie is being made about Florence Ballard but not by Tyler Perry. It was announced a couple of months ago.

  • Really great

  • They were so ladylike and feminine, just lovely to watch. They sounded great too.

  • When I was little boy, when i heard this song, i thought nothing in this world could top this song. This song to me was just fabulous to the point it could not get any betta than this LOL. Bless they harts.

  • Its amazing how a women can be sexy without being have naked and looking vulgar!!!!!

  • @paulita0513 That's what having TRUE talent does...it speaks for itself without any CHEAP gimmicks!!

  • @paulita0513 Yeah but if it was against the law to wear clothes we would be more humble and real! Except maybe on an inner city bus in August.

  • I find this more attractive than any video Nicki Minja has and could ever do

  • Gotta love Motown! Love the Four Tops as well.

  • wana dance....?

  • is it any vids of the supremes when jennifer holiday was still with them? or songs at least????

  • @luhkelsgoinhard93 Jennifer Holiday was never in the Supremes. Mary Wilson, Diane Ross and Florence Ballard were the Supremes.

  • You can get this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • They were called the "No hit Supremes" when they started but they knew they had a HIT with this one and Diane's mannerisms are sayin' "THIS ONES A HIT B*TCHES"!!!!

  • @tonywallacess45 Don't be an idiot when they started out the were called The Primettes

  • @coolsweetgroovy Yeah I know they were the Primettes to the Temptations Primes. Old news. They were called the "No hit Supremes" "in-house" by the other more accomplished acts who resented all the attention they got from Berry Gordy, H-D-H and Smokey Robinson because they felt Diane Ross was a marginal talent. The rival girl acts were particularly catty.

  • @tonywallacess45 Wow I did not know that but not surprised about stories about girl acts be treated rudely at Motown P.S. diana or Diane i'm still a fan of The supremes

  • @coolsweetgroovy Apparently Martha Reeves WASN'T a fan.

  • @tonywallacess45 I did not know that

  • @tonywallacess45 apparently martha reeves is a mess

  • @kennyfame Actually Martha Reeves was very successful. Her Wiki says she still performs at 69 after serving in Detroit politics. Having been stationed in Arizona, I know that Diane Ross gets arrested about once a week for drunk driving and its newsworthy when she ISN'T arrested so I'd say the DIVA, Miss Ross, is the Mess. SORRY.

  • @tonywallacess45 actually the event that you are referring to regarding diana ross was following the DEATH of her HUSBAND; a person would have to be an insensitve asshole to not understand what she was going through. because for the record anybody at despite what negative things they have to say about Diana drugs were never patrt of the equasion!!!!! drugs was never part ofthe equasion. regarding Martha Reeves yes I did hear that she was involved with politics so. i still heard that she crazy.

  • @kennyfame Didn't say anything about DRUGS. I said drunk driving. SEVERAL TIMES. I'm not insensitive, but I'm not doing to defend a person-no matter how famous- who puts others at risk. What if she hit and killed an innocent person. Sorry, no sympathy for Miss Ross. What's worse is that she has the money to have someone drive her around. NO SYMPATHY!!! Now, regarding what you HEARD about Martha Reeves is hearsay, someone's opinion. I see SUCESS. Evidently you are blinded by your love 4 Di.

  • @tonywallacess45 she was never known to do anything in terms of DRINKING or DRUGS. Happy now that I was more specific mr word sensitive. And as far as Im concerned qwho trhe hell are you to judge anybody do you liver in as glass house? just saying. people make mistakes that was hers. Mary Wilson killed her own son falling asleep at the wheel I didnt see you include that. and everything you saying is hear say about diana as far as im concerned; your a hater get a life. and your blinded by hate

  • @tonywallacess45 you sound fucking miserable. who the hell are you to even worry about what anybody do or doesn't do with their money; is it yours? My sympathy or feeling regarding diana is of person who know what is like to mourn. Most people with human emotions can understand that; of which you seem to be vacant. You must be some kind of insensitive as. each and everyone of us coukd have made a mistake that could have killed anotrher person. the whole situation was unfortunate mr perfect.

  • @tonywallacess45 when I judge Diana I judging her by legacy her children all of which are well adjusted, well rounded individuals; a lush could never have done that. Wherwe's Martha Reeves kids? or could she even find anybody to give any; just asking. And so what she in politics so was Bush and Sara Palin; whats your point?

  • @kennyfame Kenny you are taking this to an extreme. You like Diane Ross, I get it. If you checked my original comment you would have seen it was a compliment to Miss Ross and the Supremes. As I said there was some competition between all the girl acts at Motown. Trying to down Martha Reeves or Mary Wilson or any one of them is ridiculous. My God, man. Get a life!!! Don't you have anything better to do than go after commentators on Youtube. Its one man's opinion. Jeez, get a girlfriend.

  • @tonywallacess45 no actually YOU took it to the extreme when you tried to go after diana ross personally, with your drunk while driving drunk comment. Which was totally unfair; and last i checked every time I say something, you have something to say back; so where's your life at? And for the record I dont want nor do I need a girlfriend, was that supposed to be some type of homophobic sidebar? well; I caught it. So be aware of what you put out in the universe; because you'll always get it back.

  • and of course Mary's: "woo" at 1:23 *sigh*

  • wonderful chemnistry

  • mary wilson is clearly the " hottie of this group!

  • I don't know, my friend. Flo is bringing it, too. Either way, you have good taste. Cheers.

  • Giants, Legends, Icons! Mary, Diane and Flo......the Supremes!

  • I'm kinda liken the see through dresses. Nice top on Mary especially.

  • lolz @ 1:07-1:13 lol luk at diana's eye when she says "hurry, come on boy". lolz haha

  • 1:13

    Her face.

  • Flo and Mary, You might want to invest some money into a good bra.

  • In the instrumental part, Mary's eyes look up, she bites her lips and sings: woooo! and that 's because she's the most beautiful girl I have ever seen

  • Miss Mary Wilson sure is super fine here!!!!

  • DAMN this is old

  • Ross was and still is a untalented singer. She looks like a dressed up crackhead. Florence Ballard was the lead singing talent, but deemed to black for white America. She was to fine, and so is Mary. can't believe anyone finds ross attractive!

  • mary was stunning! couldn't take my eyes off her. you can tell these were the days when they were all in it together...all for one, one for all. then, the fame monster bit.

  • After Diana left for a solo career, the Supremes continued with Jean Terrell singing lead and had a number of terrific songs and hits. Both continued quite successfully until Jean, too, left the group!

  • oh my god! this is a live perfomance. look at the end of clip. you can clearly see james jamerson playing bass

  • she was sexy

  • @huge10inchdick you know what charisma is?

  • Florence Ballard RIP You are so beautiful the best

  • so good congratulations for the quality she's so well i'm french and this song help me to speak english thank you for this video which is very very good Flo, Diana, Mary I love us

  • TOTALLY HYPNOTIC!

This is the actual, non lipped clip!

The band, and the girls are actually playing/ singing what you are hearing!

  • love

  • I used ta love (still DO as it go's,LoL!!) Diane's 'eye poppin' and all the rest of it...she was 'hungry' and went 'all out' for 'it'...and man,did she EVER 'get it' too!!!!Juss can't HELP loving her/them...they really were somethin VERY special!!We wont see their likes again i don think...no sir-ee!!

  • i like the supremes, but sometimes it seems like they just try too hard... but then again you have to try hard to make it in the biz

A cidade do motor!

  • Florence is really thin here. And her arms look so muscular..no wonder very few people would try to mess with her.

  • @kickinqitoldschool

Strange you should see that, kickinqitoldschool. Back in the day, we saw that too. I think it was a family thing because her sister (Maxine) had the same build but a little larger body structure.

  • @xunclexx really? i've never had the chance to see maxine in her younger days. i wonder what they all looked like. her siblings and her parents, and paternal grandparents.

  • Jamerson

  • One of the best early & pure examples of the sound (and look) of the Supremes. And they would soon abandon this "McGuire Sisters"-style staging of all three of them sharing one mike. This is them as a group. Wonderful "Bill Kennedy Show" clip.

  • Look at how damn sexy Diana is. I love her.

  • We always thought she was so smiley and ugly in VietNam.

  • But you couldn't take your eyes off her!

  • @rankin383

I was in Siagon in '70 and "A FART" broadcast a lot of the Supreme songs. There were a few other guys from Detroit and we all said she would be a dog without that voice.

  • Consider just how well the girls had to perform here in this video. The technical equipment at that time was primitive compared to now. I like the way they dance to the tempo. Perfectly done. 5 Stars.

  • could the bass player possibly be Mr. James Jamerson himself???!

  • Yup. Robert White is back there playing guitar and Earl Van Dyke is on the keys to the left and that kinda looks like Uriel Jones on drums...can't tell

  • @jeditwinz Yes this is great--Earl Van Dyke (leader of the Funk Brothers), James Jamerson, Robert White along with the Supremes. I dare you to find an ensemble like this playing on TV today.

  • @jimmyfinlayson Never happen again. I'm not one to say never either.

  • @jimmyfinlayson Never happen again. I'm not one to say never either. Come to think of it...do u think that was Uriel Jones on drums? Kinda looked like his silhouette. Benny was still alive at this time though so it's hard to tell but the head is too round to be Pistol

  • @jeditwinz It sure looks like Uriel--Benny had his demons which made it hard on him just to get into the studio--I am not sure if he was up for a 'live' TV gig. But he was "Papa Zita"!!

  • This clip is rare because it has as close to the original audio as I've heard since we saw it on local TV in Detroit. The Bill Kennedy Show on CKLW! Thanks

  • @DetroitLives313 are you saying this is from the Bill Kennedy Show on CKLW?

  • Yes exactly. It use to come on Channel 9 out of Windsor, Ontario. All we and everyone had in those days were the Big 3 Networks and a few local stations. CKLW was one of ours.

  • @DetroitLives313 I know. Channel 2, 4 and 7 plus 9 (Canadian). I grew up with Bill Kennedy. Didn't a "Mary Morgan" come on after him and show movies?

  • What's colour got to do with anything?

  • At that time, they were known only as the "The Supremes." Later they morphed into "Diana Ross and the Supremes." Then Diana dumped them all and it was only "Diana Ross." Before they called themselves "The Supremes," they were known as "The Primetes."

  • @adopaz she didnt dump them you know better! Diana ross is a great musician you should do research bevore talking they where all great !!!

  • @ComoLaFlorr: She dumped them. As far as you saying that I "should do research," the very first album I ever, EVER bought was "Where Did Our Love Go?" by The Supremes. That was in 1963 when I was 11 years old. Florence Henderson died later in Detroit, while she was on welfare. A few years ago, Mary Wilson was elected to Detroit's city council. There -- YOU learned something -- I saved you some "research."

  • @adopaz I already knew that.. but it wasnt diana's fault that there life's ended up like that! You shouldn't critisize people if you dont know them personally.. Florence had her problems but it wasnt dianas fault she even gave them money both to help them but anyway they are All great! peace.

  • @ComoLaFlorr: I mean Florence "Ballard," (not Henderson).

  • This is an incredibly important clip!

  • Translucent1982, don't hate on diana. Shes very beatiful as well as flo & mary. Besides what does whose prettiest have to do w/ anything. Gosh.

  • Every comment made is stupid you all need to be a shame of yourselves sad lonely lives you all must lead

  • Diana was the ugliest out them all, did she had a nose job?

  • Hmm, Flo was so skinny here, while Mary had the curves. Later on they would switch and Flo would gain curves.

  • It's interesting how the white guys like Mary but the black men love Flo. I don't think white men like light skinned black women, they prefer the dark ones.

  • What in the world?

  • WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Mary Is So Beautiful...If I Had Been Living In The 60s and 70s I Would've Been A Member Of The Temptations And I Would've Hollered At Mary..She Was Drop Dead Gorgeous. I Love Flo And Diana Too. But Mary Got Me DELIRIOUS...LMAO!!

  • Agreed about Mary. would have done the same thing to Mary. Although, I probably would have been a member of Gary Lewis & The Playboys. (Just a hint).

  • LOL!!

IDK If Mary Would Have Gotten With Any White Boys!!

    But Hey You Never Know!!

  • Well, if Mary would have gotten with a white boy we would have at least one son named, Barack. -:)

  • LMAO!!!

Well I Guess You've Won That Discussion!

  • Yes she did. She dated Tom Jones. She doesn't care about color.

  • I like Diana's voice very much. THOSE who say she can't sing because her voice sounds the same when she speaks don't know anything about music.Period.That's the beauty in her voice:she sounds natural.ANyway, Flo and Mary also rule.I just wish I could see them singing some leads too.

  • Most #1s by artist/ group...all-time

    The Beatles (20)

    Mariah Carey (18)

    Michael Jackson (13)

    Madonna (12)

    The Supremes (12)

Mariah Carey is clearly the most successful female recording artist to date. Beyonce has a ways to go even to catch Whitney Houston, or Janet Jackson.
