What a superb video! Really well done! I have acouple of questions though, firstly how long before AF1 landed were the helicopters milling around? And secondly, how did you find out when and more importantly where Air Force One would be landing? I ask because since Obama is visiting us again on Tuesday 24th, I'd love to get a few shots of the plane myself and, more importantly, see it in real life!
@anticlimax1471 hi anticlimax1471 thanks very much. TBH it's hard to remember as this was a few years ago, the helicopters came in over the back of us, however they arrived in good light and AF1 was later, although this was in March before the clocks changed so might have only been an hour or so before. Didn't know when it would land, not on normal freqencies for security. Had to hang about most of the day. U need to be along Belmer Road at STN. Remember to bring any ID with u.
@bananamanuk Ah I see, that sounds good. I was planning to make a day of it anyway so I don't mind hanging around, however I would like to know how you found out that AF1 would be landing at Stansted? Does it always land at Stansted? Because some others have told me that it sometimes lands at Heathrow?
@anticlimax1471 It was announced that G8 leaders were coming and also listed on a y ahoo group for Stansted movements, I think it was on pprune earlier than that as well. Doesn't always come to STN, but traffic lighter there so probably makes easier from security point of view. Hope that helps a bit.
@MONTAGExKINGS Hi thanks for your message about #obamavisit I've posted a new video of his arrival at Stansted on Monday 23rd May 2011. THanks for watching.
@cbpointblank it is technically not marine one, concidering the president is onboard airforce one, because they are only called airforce one, or marine one when the president is onboard, its a callsign that is used only when he is on the aircraft(s), if he is not on them then a different callsign is used
@cbpointblank Seeing Air Force One is a pretty amazing sight, the aircraft is pristine. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment I appreciate it.
@shriramvenu hello shiriramvenu yes, Air Force One flanked by Ryanair 737's, quite a sight and sort of one extreme of travel to another! thanks for your comment.
What a great video here :) all your vids are amazing, but especially this one, thanks for sharing your work ! By the way, very unusual to see Russian airliner in Stansted.
@HotDog12ist Hi again, thanks a lot I'm glad you like the videos. We don't get that many Russian aircraft at STN, all the aircraft here were for the G7 meeting so all heads of state arriving. I think there were a few Aeroflot's in the other day as part of the diversions due to the weather but I missed them unfortunately - mind you they may not have been Russian built anyway.
@LavyBlack Hello LavyBlack thanks for watching and commenting. I review comments before posting - not to stop criticisms etc but I don't want the page being used for venting of political opinions, lots of other places for that.
Great; the music adds a nice touch. Just note that your tags have Obama's name misspelled - twice. I know this is to garner more search results, but adding the correct spelling, Barack, will attract even more hits from searches :)
@technoairplaneman Hey technoairplaneman, thanks for the tip, hadn't realised that I've added the correct spelling now. I actually hadn't realised I'd put it in there wrong twice, though u are right, in tags I do try and use common mis-spellings to help people find vids - good thing really going by my own inability to spell :-)
hey this video is cool can you reload it with the music from Star Wars when Airforce 1 lands, you know when Darth Vader arrives at the Deathstar? lol.
if you ever watch the programme " airport " which films various people around heathrow in london it covered bush visiting london once and on it the procedure was that the president couldnt get of air force one until the standby plane landed.
I used to watch airport niceenoughphil, but didn't realise that they had to wait for the standby plane to land before he could get off. It's an amazing, but probably very understandable, amount of security that follows the president for sure. Thanks for your comment.
well you can imagine senarios happining without warning i.e the standby crashing or whatever . . . then i think matters would change as they take the same security staff for each plane everwhere i.e around 35 peeps a plane or somthing not sure on specific figures.
hi tractorboyzrule, thanks for your message. Stansted is a pretty bad airport for watching aircraft as there are no real official areas, however, your best bet will be from the side of the runway, that way it doesn't matter which end they are landing/departing. You need to travel to Burton End, carry on through that village until you get to a long straight road, thats the side of the runway and is well guarded, well back from the runway and therefore safe for you and the airport.
Hi, yes it's legal, you are on public land, and public rights of way. You have to observe all normal by-laws and behave in a suitable manner. Security and Police may stop and ask what you are doing as part of normal security checks but you won't be moved on unless causing a problem
when your flying the Air Force One, I bet you have to do perfect landings. 1 hard landing and you probably get replace and put down to maintence or something.
nice video really like it, too bad in America we are no allowed the close to an airport everything get shutdown when Air Force One is near on a 5 miles radius even near highways are shutdown. thanks and i love the UK airports.easy to get amazing pictures and planes that are ban in the US
Hi elcora18, thanks for your comment. One thing i would say though is that UK airports are not easy places to get pictures and videos, far from it, i think the only airport that truly welcomes aviation enthusiasts is Manchester Airport. Everywhere else there seems to be suspiscion and it's very hard to get good vantage points. Stansted is a perfect example, there's really only one little mound of earth that affords a view over the extremely tall perimeter fence - sad really.
I just hope we can have a friendly understanding in our little world (small=depending on the easy way it is to reach eachother by aircraft). We could have a peaceful World, if not some militant religion fanatics just want to ruin the peace (Brother in arms: we have just one small World, but we live in different ones). Hope that it will change to the good in the future.
Hope you can keep on filming so close in the future too. Thank's for video. Bye.
Well, that was a very nice sequense of landings. All 1st class! And your filming is just perfect. My question is: how can they allow you to film just close to the Airport? You must look very honest=be honest. I saw a documentary on TV yesterday about militant muslims from, also from UK, who wanted to make the World a muslim territory. Well, it is a privilege to film a film so close to an airport. When I was young, there were no problem at all. What has happened to the World. Peace everybody!
Hi petereuropa, thanks 4 ur comment. I have a fundamental belief that ppl should be allowed to engage in hobbies & interests & videoing & photography should be allowed. Theres a fundamental difference between filming aircraft &airports in the open and whilst carrying ID, and following general decency and other rules/laws, to being secretive and undercover. I am filmed every day of my life by CCTV, so I should be allowed to film aircraft. It's not against law, agreed what's happened to the world!
Is there any other planes that even come close to Air Force One? I have been trying to check out any video I can find from the summits on other leaders planes but so far you have the best.
They always travel with the president - they are airlifted by military transport to the site and then flown in - there are several presidential helicopters to act as decoys. The presidential limosine and the Secret Service vehicles - Suburbans mainly - are also airlifted to the site. The Chinooks contain whatever the military deemed necessary to bring - who knows! lol
I don't know if the Russian plane was the official Russian aircraft or just a chartered aircraft. Air Force One is indeed impressive, but I imagine the costs involved with it are just as eye-watering! thanks for commenting
Here is your Rock Star-Air Force One. I love this plane! but I must say this is my favorite video because it had other Rulers planes landing and I have not seen any other video showing the other planes but this one shows at least two. Clearly the Pilot, Did Turn on the Navigational Lights during Landing but his Flaps was down Too Early Which may cause the Boeing-747 of obama to touch-down the Airport too early...The Plane could have a Accident if the pilot would dileberately Descend as like a A380 Which is Prone to Land Earlier and Crash.. Severe Accidents happend to Congcorde planes Late 1990's which is cause by the speed which the pilot needs to slow-down and touch down earlier before it ends at the end of the runway
Looks like the pilot held his landing flare for too long, He probably developed that bad habbit flying C-130's for the military, Pilot forgot to put on his nav lights during power reduction as well.
Me again! The bmi flight is actually from Kingston, Jamaica. Not sure whether it is cargo or some sort of ad-hoc charter, but it came 2 days running. It could be there was limited parking available so they put her on the cargo stand - with the air asia x flights coming in now there is less space for the rare heavies!
Thanks for the whurfcburkett, ordinarily, something like a BMI A330 would be enough for a trip to Stansted for something besides Easy & Ryanair, but I guess it got a little lost with the other arrivals. I have got some video of the bmi and may post another time.
Nice vid! I work for Fedex (opposite side of the runway to where you shot this vid) so we all stopped and watched the arrival (u can just make out 2 of our MD11's in the background)... I agree, the police & security was insane. We had a practice run with all the helos on saturday, and I can confirm Air Force 1 is still parked over on North Side at STN. Can't miss it, lit up by spotlights!
Hi whufcburkett, thanks for your message. I always enjoy filming the FedEX MD11's coming in, love the sound of them and the power. I think a lot of money has been spent on security and as you say, practice runs etc. Thanks for the update on status of AF1 and your comment

Excellent Video mate, great quality and great editing. Best AF1 video I've seen so far. Just one question, were those the US Presidential helicopters?
Thank you very much TheOneAndOnly247, that's a really nice comment. There were 4 helicopters in total, 2 Presidential - I understand that both always fly together acting as a decoy. Plus the two chinnook

Thanks very much. It was between 8 and 9 to be honest there was so much going on I lost track of time, but he was only on the ground a few mins - like 15 tops before boarding the helicopter

Brilliant Video, is Air Force 1 on the tarmac at Stansted? If it is how long is it here for?

Thanks again, I'm not sure how long it's here for. I heard until Friday but could be wrong.

Thanks very much. I've never seen so many police at Stansted Airport, but they all do a great job and very friendly. It's a pretty big event to see all these heads of state arriving so close to home!
