  • A brave wee Scottish lassie, lost. You don't see talent like this anymore.

  • Her talent and display of emotion is so amazing and powerful....something not seen or heard anymore. And she was such a tender soul.

  • THIS IS AMAZING

  • voice and song just breathtaking

  • Thank you. Dont know why but this song and performance brings a tear to my eyes.

  • Brilliant Woman. That is all I can say.

  • LEGEND SIMPLE AS THAT

  • All i can say is brill, her eyes draws you in to her soul.Has any one noticed that at the song she nearly crys?.Miss you loads.xxx

  • You are the one Lena! This song is so meaningful for you and me both......

  • It's been a year now since I discovered Lena Z. on YT and I still find her performances totally captivating as ever, especially 'Going Nowhere in particular. I'm not alone in being profoundly moved and I've often tried to analyse the 'Lena Effect, the sheer emotion impact, pounding heart, goosebumps. Extraordinary!

Lena is our Hidden Treasure and long may that continue. I'd hate to see the media rake over the ashes and sensationalise her life if she ever came to prominance again.

    RIP lovely one

  • @willewinky Well worth watching. Lena's story received a lot of attention and everyone interviewed had something kind to say. It can be seen on ITV Player.

  • Listening again &again. As I listen to her songs, interviews & documentary (several videos), I see how BRAVE she was, yet just A CHILD & so young, taken away from mom & dad to 'be a star'..by people who shamelessly take no blame while sounding like a typical child molester...'she wanted to, she agreed, was willing, loved it..it's not MY fault'. Thank you again for sharing Lena beautiful voice, but heartbreaking story on YouTube.May God's perpetual light forever shine upon her. Rest in peace,Lena.

  • Breaks your heart.

  • What a wonderful video! I was born the same year as Lena. I still remember her on Opportunity Knocks with that big voice that was slightly annoying at the time but when I look at this I have to think where did I lose Lena? What happened to all those years in between? She is magnificent and I am proud to be a fan of her> I only wish that I could have reached out to her and gave her a big hug as I think that what was she needed. God bless you Lena. I will always remember you! xx

  • The song she sings very well, but its sad that the song kind of represents the way her life went, even though she had this huge success, in another way she was still going No Where and must have felt that when sang this song as to her illness and personal life so in the end, showbiz was all she had left

  • correcting typo ."thanks to the resourceful providers etc"

  • I currently am drawn here each day to watch Lena's video. The compulsion is so strong and I do not fight it...I do it and enjoy what Lena left us. I do want to give proper than to the resourceful providers of the videos. Thank you so much.

  • 1st time commenting hope im in right part for Lenas video. I cant help feeling Lena was a misplaced ANGEL who arrived on this earth in error with her Angelic voice and personality But she was lonely to be with the other angels. RIP Angel Lena.

  • Brilliant song brilliantly sung by a pro rip Lena

  • I've commented on this song in the past but everytime I listen to her sing it, it just reminds me of what a powerful voice she had & she always delivered every song with real emotion & passion. This was from 1981 so she'd only have been 17/18 yrs of age. In my opinion, this is what you call REAL talent. What a voice she had. She just stood there & delivered it the way it was meant to be & without all the fancy gadgets or backing dancers that no singer seems to be able to do without nowadays.

  • songs like this should be put on cd and not to left to gather dust in some record companys valts

  • fantastic, what a voice RIP XXX

  • I get mixed feelings watching Lena, fond memories of a great talent and sadness at the loss. It is great to be taken back to a time when the world was a better place and the music of much better quality.

  • Fantastic and a beautifull young woman such a shame a sad lost. Everytime i watch it it brings me to tears

  • it was easy to poke fun at Lena in the day as another showbiz irritating kid, but then u see this video and its clear to see a woman in trouble.....her showbizzy mask has fallen clean off and u see her quickly pick it back up at the end of this song and its back to showbizzy Lena.......why diddn't she show us this side more........so sad.

  • amazing! i'm only 13 but she is my idol! RIP Lena, i wish i could have meet you :)

  • Thanks for your comments. Yes you are probably right about Lena and I do believe that her story has been used as a warning about the dangers of childhood stardom and also a learning about eating disorders. I think it is impossible to know for sure that Lena would not have had the eating disorder and depression if she had been a regular person and not famous! Or if in fact she had started performing at 18 rather than 9! Famous people develop all sorts of problems as do non famous people.

  • Lena Zavaroni was one of the most amazing and talented performers that ever lived. I think its time to release all her records again. Do record companies look at You Tube and know what people want? We want to be able to buy all Lena's records.

  • No special effects here. Just a beautiful young girl with an outstanding voice! Lena was one of the most underrated performers ever. A very shy quiet girl off stage but on stage something amazing happened. This girl sang like nobody else at such a young age. But fame came to early and if she had been older she could have made her own decisions. This would have changed everything ! RIP LENA. YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY! WISH YOU COULD HAVE FELT GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF!

  • @billyfuryfan64 Perfect words about Lena’s talent, but ever wonder why Lena hasn’t been on TV in the last 25 years? It’s because the press developed the easily believed, but false myth that fame was the cause of her illness. These journalists are more interested in a good story than an accurate story. However, as long as people believe this about Lena, then the TV companies will remain reluctant to show her.

  • I can only think of two words; Abslutely Brilliant!!!

  • Brilliant,brillaint,brillaint....I feel so emotional deep down.Thank God for her music.

  • Amazingly beautiful, incredibly emotional.

  • love this girl fab talent x

  • Back when talent shows produced REAL talent!

  • This makes me emotional,,Lena sings so well, so beautiful,so,wonderfully the perfect singer x

  • Lena u were an angel on earth now your one in heaven gone way too soon miss you

  • A big talent whit a great voice!!!

  • I love this song. Thanks Lena.

  • always a great voice u was ace the world loves and misses u

  • I had forgotten just how good a singer she was,so young but able to put so much emotion into a song.

They should still play her music on the radio. Talent is given to some others think they they have it.

  • LEGEND

  • Ever since discovering Lena on YouTube, thank God for YouTube, I have become a huge fan of Lena's, if she were still with us today I would travel the world to see her perform. I love all her songs.

  • This song "Going Nowhere" is such a beautiful song. Sad that this girl had to die so young.

  • In Spain there are people who will never forget you...

  • RIP, poor song. lena killed you.

  • now that was talent!!!!!! i miss her!!

  • I cant watch her sing without crying my eyes out. She as left a big hole in the music industry and is missed very much, God Bless Lena, you will live in our hearts forever.

  • As one of the GREAT ENTERTAINERS it’s about time Lena’s Shows and records were made available.

Some of us may have our memories, but would like to see and hear her perform again.

Plus there is a new generation of music loves, who I am confident will enjoy her performances and songs as much as we do.

    Thanks for a great clip

  • Simply a star never to be forgotten! Amazing voice, lovely girl...soooo sad

  • A talent sadly lost..fantastic version of sedakas song..how far could this girl have gone...

  • what a sad lost r.i.p

  • bitch had pipes

  • Perhaps Lovely Lena Zavaroni's greatest performance. Going Nowhere! How sad it is to watch her knowing what we know now about her private life. Wish I could have helped her as In know what it is to have depression. A beautiful talented little lady who was taken too soon and who suffered greatly whilst she was here. A beautiful and haunting performance telling a story. RIP Beautiful Lena you are loved and missed by many.

  • @5151emily Check out Lena's preformance of the BM hit, Even Now. It is simply amazing. Her whole body shakes with the force of her performance.

  • @willewinky sometimes I think that she even overdoes sometimes with the performances(hint of perfectionism,I think maybe).

But she was certainly talented before she got even more emaciated.

  • @5151emily What a lovely tribute to Lena, I totally agree, it makes me cry everytime. u can just see the pain in her eyes. She was just so amazingly talented!!! What a price she had to pay for that! Still hurts to watch her even now.R.I.P Lena xxxxx Always in our hearts xxxx

  • @5151emily remember when she won oppertunities knocks To hear singing that song live .What a brilliant talent.Iam 69 years old and it still makes me cry.lol

  • what a total talent....this is the most emotional performance i have ever seen...totally captivating by Lena ...what an amazing performer...x

  • I'm in New Zealand, so i do not know just now who Cheryl is, someone tell me so i can listen to her. BUT i'm afraid, no-one can surely come near to Lena and her voice. Btw, i am angry at her dadand her pyscho manager, but so full of admiration to the couple who helped her, i have forgotten who they are. I'd love to write to them and say so.

  • @rosyblue1 So true....anyone these days is auto-tuned within an inch of their lives. Not so Lena--they didn't have it in her day, and she'd never have needed it if they did! Lena COULD sing!

  • @rosyblue1 i'll rather listen to cheryl and watch her too.better looking and better singer.

  • @liveforevermaybe I'm in New Zealand, so i do not know just now who Cheryl is, someone tell me so i can listen to her. BUT i'm afraid, no-one can surely come near to Lena and her voice. Btw, i am angry at her dadand her pyscho manager, but so full of admiration to the couple who helped her, i have forgotten who they are. I'd love to write to them and say so.

  • Is this the stereo version?

  • @newcrossboy There isn't a true stereo version, sorry....

  • Is this the stereo verson?

  • poeple never under stand to its to late .a sad loss

  • no one sings this song like lena,,u go girl..

  • Lovely Lena who deserves to be put on CD and DVD. A child prodigy with a brilliant natural voice. No nonsense here no special effects she just opens her mouth and this amazing emotional voice comes pouring out of this very tiny girl. I LOVE LENA!!

Such a loss and a waste. She is so missed. This is the best cover of Going Nowhere ! RIP Lena!. I am sorry you were hurting so much. You are truly loved and missed.

  • TRULY AMAZING the passion the presence , oh to have performers like that now

  • Is anyone EVER going ot make a movie about HER!? One of the most heartbreakingly/beautiful/riveting singers I have EVER seen!! TRUE RAW EMOTIONS!! With Much Love In Christ, Jenny

  • Its a shame Lena's demons got her. I agree Cheryl Cole can't really sing (she relies on clever microphone and sound adjustments and enhancements). Goodness knows what they will make of Cheryl in the US on X Factor. I expect she will have to speak much slower and more clearly. If you're looking for a great UK vocalist who can really sing, Jane McDonald is excellent. She's what I call a proper singer. Current pop sensation Adele is also good although I do wish she would sing cheerier songs.

  • 2) In 2002 an attempt to raise funds in Rothesay failed due to lack of interest so the only way forward, as I can see, is to have a fund raising effort by fans across the world via YouTube, initially 'pledging' a sum of mney. This will ascertain the amount of interest and money that may be available. When this is known then further plans can be made.

Has anyone any ideas about this?

  • Comment removed

  • @Utubeifuwant I have no idea,s really on how you would go about this, but i am more than willing to contribute. maybe be if fans would or could be able to get together and do some sort of fundraising in Rothesay, to regain interest. Not sure as i said got no real ideas, just a thought. but i would love to be part of it.

  • 1)On a day trip to Rothesay, I visited LZ's memorial in the Discovery Centre (formerly the Winter Gardens), a bronze statuette on a marble plinth along with a solitary birthday card and a collection box for an eating disorder foundation which, I suppose, links Lena forever with anorexia.

I wouldn't regard this as a permanent memorial and hardly fitting for the 'Brightest Star',' it is after all, just a garden ornament.

IMO a permanent memorial is required as a matter of some urgency.I

  • @willewinky I think it was BBC 4, so will be probably be repeated. Yes, I think though that YouTube has and will continue to raise interest in Lena. (look at the hit on this) This is a massive medium and exposes artists that those previously in control kept suppressed. Lena is ideal for YT because she covered such a wide range of standards. I think there’s no looking back now, it’s just a pity she’s not here to see it.

  • @newagemisfit Sorry about that! I didn’t mean to inundate you with the same comment but for some reason it kept saying ‘error’ so I kept on trying to post. Its good thing you can delete these days.

  • Comment removed

  • @newagemisfit There is one video clip that would be nice to see. I have heard the audio of Lena and Frankie Howard when he appeared on her show but it does not seem to be on YouTube. Could a fellow fan upload it ? It is quite amusing.

  • I'MO,, done sensitively and intelligently, Lena's life story would make an excellent docu-drama and I'm sure that it would engender enough interest and enthusiasm to warrent a digital re-issuing of her albums,Perhaps, then, some of the profits could go towards a decent statue and perhaps a memorial garden in Rothesay.(see comments under 'One More Chance').

Who owns the copyright of her music?

  • Comment removed

  • @Utubeifuwant 1, The reason the BBC has not covered Lena as a singer is that the focus was switched from her music to her illness. The British press did this and has persistently linked Lena’s illness to her singing career. The British public have been brainwashed into believing it’s possible to catch anorexia nervosa from child stardom. There’s no evidence for this and clearly 99.99% of anorexia sufferers were not famous as children.

  • @Utubeifuwant 2, These girls never get a mention as their names would not help to sell newspapers. Now that more has been learned about this illness the BBC and other TV companies that hired Lena are beginning to feel less at fault. The BBC showed Lena on 4 April so perhaps things will change. But it will not help if Lena fans bang on about blaming others on here. We all feel bad, but no one should be blamed.

  • Comment removed

  • @willewinky The BBC made a programme called ‘Sings Neil Diamond’ it was a compilation of various artists singing ND songs. It showed Lena singing ‘Together in Blue jeans from her 79 BBC TV series. She was placed between Urge Overkill and The Hollies. It was superb quality and was on BBC Iplayer, but I think is gone now.

  • She was the best .... but a tragic wee angel...

  • She was the best .... but a tragic wee angel...xx

  • wow she was some singer

  • I really always hoped that lena,s story would be made into a film, for no other reason than to show the world what a unique and wonderful talent she was. This lady was just so amazing, but really does,nt get the recognition that she truly deserved! But nobody should ever benefit from her death financially, she did,nt benefit in life being famous! Fame took her life! But nobody should ever take the purity of her memory from her adoring fans!!!! May you be in a safer place Lena R.I.P xxxxx

  • @ChloeMcDonald123

They should not produce a film, they should reissue all her recordings on CD, at least her greatest recordings. That´s the first thing to do, I think.

    Lena R.I.P.

  • Comment removed

  • @willewinky

Yes of course, but normally the studio recordings are the very first items to be released. Itunes isn´t enough, Lenas voice does deserve it to be remastered in a professional digital remastering just like all the others before.. Ella, Vera Lynn, Doris Day, Sinatra, Elvis just to name a few.

  • OMG! she is telling the world what's happening in her life through that song. i pity her so much...she was asking help so bad. RIP Lena.

  • i like this video

  • She is so good....

  • lena was a g8 singer i wish she was still alive she was a angel

  • She should have gotten a standing ovation for this.

  • Her family/Close friends love and loyalty is the main problem with her memory.

Im a Elvis fan toooo that has traveled the world with fan clubs i know bad/sick/si-fi news print is part of the money making machine. So if her father - ex husband did a tell all book we will get Lena back on the Tv/Radio - Is IT Worth It to RAPE her memory.. A rose on her grave or on the Isle of bute is the way to go.

  • @sidwalesuk You have posed a really good question. When Mrs Soloman dies the movie of LZ can be made without fear of litigation. As fans, is it going to be worth it to show everything including the horrors of Anorexia using stuff that Elle Zavaroni has said? Having thought about it, I want Lena's sweet memory preserved remembering her wonderful talent. Victor has said the movie may be a travesty on his daughters life. I am beginning to agree with him. As Sid says, a rose is the way to go.

  • @willewinky This is a very good point. I was quite looking forward to a film of Lenas life, but seeing the other tribute films that delve into the real lives of famous people has ruined my perseption of them and enjoyment of their work. The truth is that many famous people often have sad lives that are hidden from us and maybe that is for the best. I want to remember the funny comedian for his work and Lena for her talent. We all know how it ended but I'm not sure we should expose her real pain

  • she was fab it touches you

  • God its been 30yrs since this song was on tv...

  • lena was and is ..the princess of scotland...

  • @sommy38 I have said it before, where was her Mum and Dad!

  • @mpc999STEPThe same place as all the parents of anorexia sufferers - a place they call ‘a living hell’ - a place you are clearly fortunate enough not to have had visited upon you.

  • @mpc999STEP I lived right above Lena her mum Hilda dad Victor and sister Carla and they adored her, she was taken to London from the island, she wanted a career in music, her parent loved her.

  • Was she abandent by all the her show buisness friend's ?. Lots in the paper saying they loved her and never did they say they visited her..

  • You know everyday I was obsessed about Lena Zavaroni everywhere, because She was a great singer.

    R.I.P Lena Zavaroni

    1963-1999

  • Best version of this song i have ever heard. I believe it was written by Neil Sedaka.

  • very sad...going nowhere indeed. Rest in peace.

  • Absolutely fantastic...gives me goosebumps listening to it.

  • u can see the pain in er eyes, such a sad outcome to what could been an amazing career for er.xx

  • This song has always had special meaning for me. Knowing Lena's history I can relate. May we all search for, and find, that hidden place in ourselves where we know we are perfect just the way that we are. Sadly, like Lena and many others, I have never found mine. To believe ourselves unworthy to be loved becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy. RIP beautiful Lena.

  • Lena was born just a few days after me. We grew up in the same country. She briefly married a man who had the same profession as me. She was treated for anorexia in the Canadian city I now live in. Like all her fans, I wish I'd been in a position to help. Rest in peace Lena, you are missed and loved.

  • I wish she could have made it into the movies. You can tell she is an amazing actress by the way she sings this song... She feels every word.

  • I wanted to be Lena Zavaroni. I now have a wee girl who's a great singer, would i put her through this ? The world swallows you up and eats you whole.

  • Cant stop watching this now. Hard to believe as I watch that shes no longer with us.

  • Great song from a great young lady. A young Shirley Bassey dont you think? She puts so much emotion and feeling into her performance. God bless and rest in piece Lena.................

  • Makes me cry every time I hear her sing this :( A true treasure who'll always be missed..R.I.P Lena...A Star in the sky ! ! xx

  • from the heart.

  • Such power, such intensity, such emotion. Lena put her heart and soul into her singing. And she's so beautiful too. Her Italian roots shine through. Surely one of the most accomplished singers of all time.

I don't think there's a singer today who could approach this standard of perfection

  • Any chance of an HQ upload?

  • best performance of a song i think I've seen.

  • shes not just a pretty face, shes a true beautiful legend

  • A truly great performance

  • the 35 pple who dont like this havent got fucking ears its absolutley chilling

R.I.P LENA a daughter of scotland

  • @juv7 and no brain either.

  • I Miss her so much

  • The best version I've ever heard. She's amazing.

  • I still say She is wonderful!

  • Stunning.. and Lena's eyes are hypnotic too.. Sad loss, but what a wonderful, beautiful, talented young lady :0)x

  • stunning!!

  • Awesome and as beautiful as you are. X sleep well angel.

  • Does anyone know if the film about Lena still going ahead?

  • @medrecs i heard it got cancelled from other clips but i cant confirm it

  • How can you fail not to be touched by this amazing performance from Lena. She had the ability to stir even the most hardened critics with her incredible voice and stage presence. This video acts as testament to a legendary performer who continues to live on through her music

  • how dreadful that so many combatative comments are being made in response to this wonderful, encapsulating, mesmerising performance. Enjoy it, take away what you can..leave horrid comments to your own head. We love this and will continue to do so.

  • Whats up with the world today? Why do people have to be rude and offensive, especially in response to such a beautiful performance. Take your vile comments elswhere.

  • I agree. I have listened to this many times. Beautiful & unspoiled voice. It was Lena all of the way. Her singing came from the heart. Anyone who has a bad word to say should get off of the air

  • It's such a shame that she lost her life so early. She was incredibly talented.

  • Shut up, and listen to the music!

  • Dear Sir/Madam. I feel that pulling you up on minor detail such as there being two Ls in collection as a pose to one tedious nitpicking, so i won't. Bolshivik type of character are you, out to silence my view? Who feels sorry for the alcoholic or drug addict? Nobody really. So why feel pity for an anorexic, it's an illness, and of course i don't mean to be so acid tongued on the subject. I simply find the outpouring of sympathy for this particular illness fascinating whilst others a frowned on.
