The worm here is not a true worm but a huge limbless reptile related distantly to the dragon. They are found in European folklore. Wormswuld start life as tiny, harmless looking creatures but swiftly grow so huge they could coil several times around a hill. They had vemomous breath and the ability to rejoin severed sections of their coils. Worms ate both man and beast as well as sucking the milk from cows and shrivling crops with their pestilant discharge.
