@JazzyBlues420 Yes, but....................Crawford's version was recorded perhaps 15-20 years before Harry James'. Musical sensibilties in the 1920 were much simpler than those in the 1940s, and not so much given over to what became the Swing Era only a few years later. One has to extrapolate backwards to enjoy this interpretation in its own time.
My father still loves and prizes his Wurlitzer organ, an instrument never matched except by pipe organ (IMO). The sounds are caressed out of the organ by Jesse Crawford. Thank you for posting your catalogue of selections.
Oh I really love Jesse Crawford's work, his interpretations of popular songs are so sweet, cozy, a bit mysterious (the organ brings this feeling). Nice pics, too (Mildred Harris, he he ;))
Glad t have you as a subscriber and I have a lot of Jesse's recordings. This was an early attempt of mine and I have improved the sound a lot since this post. Thanks for the comments
You're welcome! By the way, I just uploaded Jesse Crawford's "When Day is Done", which along with "Roses of Picardy" was the first record of his I ever heard (and instantly loved!). I'm sure you're familiar with it.
The thing I like about Jesse Crawford's playing is that his tallent comes through without any need to try to be clever on the Organ by either playing at super speed, or adding unnecessary sound effects and 'twiddly-bits'. He was a true "Poet of the Organ".
He, along with Sidney Torch, are my two all time favourite Organists.
Sidney Torch was a Cinema Organist before the War on (I believe) the Regal Cinema circuit. He made a few recordings using the 'Christie' unit organ. But after the war, he only played the Organ professionally once. Even though he was begged to continue by many, he shrugged it off, and chose instead to arrange and conduct for the BBC Concert Orchestra which he continued to do up to his death. I think Sidney probably new the days of the Cinema Organ were numbered.
Sidney Torch was a man of many talents. He was a composer and a conductor as well as an extremely proficient organist. His organ recordings are widely considered to be the best ever made.
I remember him well from his BBC programme "Friday Night Is Music Night".
Harry James - Sleepy Time Gal is the better version.. i believe its on youtube give it a go

Delightful to listen to. Music by The Master of organ music in my view.
Thanks for sharing.

I have a number of records by different organists but don't think I have Sidney Torch. What time frame was he recording in?
