Shane Ringwood still holds the lap record for the Mondello Park national circuit, which is by far the most used track by Vees. No one has since touched it since he set it in 2007. He also holds the lap record for Donnington. Regarding the engines, there should never be differences like this among the quickest guys, but not all engines are necessarily according to the regulations.. The guy who built the motor in the green car has built over 70 and not one has ever been been questioned...
the guy in the green car (the winner) Shane ringwood is the best driver I have ever seen... he was clearly outmatched it terms of power etc.. but thats what I call RACING!!! he should be in F1!
Could anyone explain to me why these cars are so fast? They're lapping around 55 seconds on this track, 'only' 42 seconds slower than a DTM-car! A DTM-car has around 460 bhp, a Formula Vee around 95 bhp. A DTM-car has downforce, a Formula Vee (almost) nothing.
A lot of it has to do with extreme lightness. Old VW Beetle engines are air-cooled- there isn't a lot to these little racecars. Very simple, very lightweight.
Both cars are Irish Spec Formula Vees, the red car won the title that year, driven by Ken Elliot, both cars have the same 1600cc engine, the green cars' engine built by Damien Doherty, the red one built by Paul Heavey of Leastone race cars (who designed and built the red car too)

Superb drive from the green vee.Unbelieable as to how he held off the red car with all his extra straight line speed.Excellant racing though.RESPECT.
