How the U.S. helped Osama's family leave the country after 9/11." (nationalreview via NewsMine.)
Bush and Cheney have used 9/11 to scare the American People into giving up some privacy and voting for them. But many professional investigators thought that the ben Laden’s should have been held for questioning.
What "civil rights" does Darcy think we lost with renewal of the FISA bill?
We lost our right to make phone calls to al Qaeda. Oh, and we never had that right to begin with, but the FISA bill means we still don't have it. Oh, and we can still make phone calls to al Qaeda, but the government's going to listen in on them.
Darcy Burner: Fighting to Protect Our Right to Private Phone Calls With Al Qaeda.
Quit being ridiculous. There is nothing in the new FISA law about calling Al Qaeda. It actually authorizes the government to do random searches of all phone calls, not just to Al Qaeda. It completely removes the need to show probable cause before the search. We lost the right to make calls in privacy to anyone.
Maybe you should understand the workings of the Constitution and its amendments. Take a careful look at the 4th (search and seizure) and 14th (one part is privacy) amendments.
You haven't read the PATRIOT Act, have you? Please cite the chapter and verse you speak of. Privacy in the 14th amendment? WOW!!!! You have not read that either, have you? I love these people arguing on Youtube about what is said in something they have never read.
Like I said, cite it. If it is so prevalent then you should have absolutely no trouble finding the section in the PATRIOT Act that allows them to do it.
What nonsense are you talking about? It took 100% of *Republicans* to pass this piece of crap legislation. You butt-heads are the ones that are wanting to do away with the 4th amendment altogether.
I'm not a republican so I don't care but Obama "DID" vote for the spy bill and Hillary did "NOT" and that was my point!
EGObama is a liar, full of shit and that's why he will lose!
You're a blind sheep stuck in shit..
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday
John McCain said last year that he doesn't understand economics "as well as he should"
McCain's economic plan is not that hard to understand. It's an extension of the Bush administration's policies - borrow, tax and spend. Bush doubled the national debt while he was in office.
... people don't elect a president anyway. Electors do. The current spread is 183 for Obama, 178 for McCain and 177 for undecided.
Look at Egobama's poll numbers dropping all across the board. He won't win! His camp is panicking and trying to reach out to the Clintons but Hillary doesn't won't the VP slot. Biden sucks and will hurt him in the end
Jerkobama was so against the war yet voted to fund the war every single time he could
He's for babies not getting medical help after botched abortions
He voted for Bush's huge energy bill, yet McCain voted against it
He's a fake and liar -- like you must be, asswipe!
You really know nothing. Do you? The Executive branch cannot introduce legislation into Congress.
I'm sure you mean the Energy Policy Act of 2005, HR6, introduced by Joe Barton. McCain opposed it because it contained alternative fuels clauses. For the same reason Obama was for it.
Honest to God, do you really think a first trimester fetus can survive? You will believe anything won't you?
The bill legalizes many of the warrantless eavesdropping activities George Bush secretly and illegally ordered in 2001. Those warrantless eavesdropping powers violate core Fourth Amendment protections. And Barack Obama now supports all of it and so do you. You apparently want the fourth amendment removed.
Obama is not my idea of a perfect candidate, but McCain is the complete antithesis of anything I believe in.
I want liberals to stop bitching about things for simply political gain and not opposing it all the way when they get the chance to do so. Don't say you're against the war but then you vote every single time to fund the same war, don't say Bush is out to cut our freedom and privacy but then you turn around and vote for the bill that does the exact same thing...
He was against drilling for oil on U.S. shores but now he's for it!
I really would have thought that an ex-sheriff would understand the the principle behind needing a warrant having shown "probable cause" or even "reasonable suspicion" to a judge before spying on people.
Whats funny is that FISA was under the radar for 20 years. Carter brought it in, every president used it, and now it's Bush's fault. The administration has repeatedly said that the rules of going to the FISA court have been followed when it comes to American citizens. I guess girls like the one in this video should run the world; one emotional discharge at a time.
The key is that Bush and the NSA BYPASSED the FISA court. They believe the President has power to disregard the law. Please educate yourself.
Why did Bush need to bypass FISA? My guess is that he was spying on people that the FISA court would never approve. For example spying on his political opponents, not terrorists.
milofonbil: The president wouldn't do what he did if he didn't have a legal basis for doing it. He has the entire justice department to tell him he's wrong and they still haven't stopped him.
Why bypass the FISA court? There are lots of reasons. 1) Time. 2) The abundance of claims. Roving taps can encompass hundreds of numbers. 3) Innocence. If the NSA knows a tap is innocent then why seek a warrant? They just drop the tap. 4) Counter-Tapping strategies. Terrorist use disposable phones.
You know nothing about the constitution. No wonder you are so quick to give it up.
1)You are saying AFTER you have found a crime and needed to tap, you had 3 days to apply for a warrant.
2)This presumes guilty until proven innocent. This is not how our justice system is supposed to work.
3)Why get a warrant? We had a 4th amendment against illegal search and seizure. It took presenting probable cause to a judge before obtaining a warrant. How are you sure the system is not being abused?
(con't)4)Disposable phones? Sure you can buy one with cash at a grocery store. You still have to register a pre-paid phone in order to get it activated.
The President can't even read "My Pet Goat", a first grade book, right side up on 9/11. This guy was a cheerleader for God's sake. Do you really think he has any understanding of checks and balances in the constitution? Do you really think that if the President does it that it's legal? You Republicans sure are ignorant.
You're right I know nothing of the Constitution, all that time I wasted in law school reading about it taught me nothing.
1) FISA WAS ENACTED UNDER CARTER...read it again if you are having trouble.
2) How our justice system works? They arrest you before they try you right? Guilty or not.
3) 4th Amendment protections don't cover Afghan nationals. Bin Laden doesn't have your right. Again: Bush has always said, and they have found, that Bush followed procedure on American citizens.
Hippy, So privacy means nothing to you? So warrants means nothing to you? So legality is a road block to you? So Justice is too extreme for you? So the Constitution means nothing to you? So 40 lawsuits are a distraction to you? So whistleblowers are an inconvenient truth to you? So Quest's refusal to comply means nothing to you? So crime is worth defending to you? So, whats the redeeming value to immunizing criminal behavior? ... But a Rogue Government. And you support that?
Maxx1000: you assume so much and know so little. Simply because I don't whole heartedly agree with you (or at all for that matter) doesn't mean any of the things you said. In fact, I don't even thing you know what they mean.
Ron Paul all the way baby. I'm tired of bushes wire tapping tendencies. I don't care whether or not it's about tapping foreign countries it's still putting the US in a aggressive position. We need to back off and protect our own country from facism/socialism/one world government.
Umm I think this isn't a democrat vs republican issue. It's a fascism vs freedom issue. Vote against the fascist in 08. Vote Paul, Kucinich or Gravel in 08:)
