I'm looking to buy a python some time and when is the best time for me to start looking? Like what time of year does most % of eggs hatching and being put up for sale?
Great show, Brian! I have some hoggies that will be ready for the first time this year. The females are SO much larger than my male I'm worried a bit about the pairing. Not cannibalism in so much as him being damaged in the breeding process. I have a really large blk. milk who "drags" my male around the cage while they are locked up. This male hog is roughly 25% of their mass. Is that anything to be concerned about?
No concern at all, that's the almost all hogs are. Males normally get about 1/3 the size of females. I never have a problem with them at all. Thanks, Brian(Sbtv)

Do you use temp/light control to extend your breeding season throughout the year, giving you a constant supply? We did this with Turkeys for breeding, just wondering if you did the same with your broodstock.
Thanks for watching, we do use temp controls to manuplilate the breeding season. I guess it's all the same, Turkeys, Snakes, they're all animals:) Brian(SnakeBytesTV)
Boas and Garters are the two tyes of snakes that we work with that have live young. Boas breed a little ealier then colubrids, but garters are the same time. We should have babies pretty soon from our Boa group. I'll make sure to have film when they do!!! Thanks for watching! Brian(SnakeBytesTV)
We'll probably get back to the myths in a couple of weeks. We shot the one episode to see how it would work and then shot more without it. We'll probably be going back to at this weeks shoot. Thanks, Brian(SnakeBytesTV)

3th3rty 2 years ago
edit-what i meant was what kinds of snakes can be in the same cage with a ball python (normal)
3th3rty 2 years ago
Snakes of different species shouldn't be kept in the same cage, even ones of the same species shouldn't.
spirals333 2 years ago
why? is there a chance of them fighting or what?
3th3rty 2 years ago
spread of diseases and accidental mating, also some snakes in the wild(kings and milks) eat other snakes.

I have a question that I consider revolving around snake breeding (actually, two questions).
1
BatSnakegirl 3 years ago
Oops...
1. Why do males have two penises when they only use one when they breed? Can they mate with two females at once?
2. How do the males keep their testes cool, since all their organs are inside their body, and testes need to be kept cool so they can produce sperm?
And a third question:
How much sperm do males produce? Are there different numbers depending on species?
I plan on having a career in snake conservation, so I'd like to know these things now.
BatSnakegirl 3 years ago
I'm really not sure why snakes have two hemipenes?? They can breed with only one, they never breed two snakes at one time, so maybe nature just gave them a backup)
Spermitagenisis happens when a snake is cooled, but it doens't have to stay cool to keep the sperm fertile. Do you use temp/light control to extend your breeding season throughout the year, giving you a constant supply? We did this with Turkeys for breeding, just wondering if you did the same with your broodstock.
Keep up the great vids. :-)

Thanks for watching, we do use temp controls to manuplilate the breeding season. I guess it's all the same, Turkeys, Snakes, they're all animals:) Brian(SnakeBytesTV)

Do any have live births? Are those species breeding/birthing at different seasons than egg layers?
BayerLexan 3 years ago
Boas and Garters are the two tyes of snakes that we work with that have live young. Boas breed a little ealier then colubrids, but garters are the same time. We should have babies pretty soon from our Boa group. I'll make sure to have film when they do!!! Thanks for watching! Brian(SnakeBytesTV)

We'll probably get back to the myths in a couple of weeks. We shot the one episode to see how it would work and then shot more without it. We'll probably be going back to at this weeks shoot. Thanks, Brian(SnakeBytesTV)

I keep hearing colubrids and another group of snakes. I forget what it's called. What's the differences?
RNRExotics 3 years ago
Colubrids are corns, kings, milks and a few others and then you have Boids, which are you Boas and Pythons. Hope this Helps, Brian(SnakeBytesTV)
