Dick is indeed an amazing player to this day. Although not the drummer in my video, my vote for all time best surf drummer goes to Dusty Watson who played, and kept up with, Dick for many years. Dusty is a good friend and one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. If you are a fan of the surf genre, you should get a copy of his (and Paul Johnson and others) DVD called "Pounding Surf"..great surf history and tips on surf drumming.

Dick Dale might be 74 years old but he still strings up with a 16 gague treble-e string (and on a 25.5 in Strat, no less).
You need some serious finger strength to do be able to do that at ANY age.
