The Raleigh NC Art Museum currently hosts a magnificent Rembrandt Exhibit from November through half of January 2012. Cleveland and Minneapolis will be the only other cities hosting this unique event.
Rembrandt, painting techinique to Holland genius of the seventeenth century.
It brings light, color, movement, study of psychology, breaking down the traditional standars and creating a new scenery, inscrutable and mysterious today.
One of the greatest geniuses of paintig never existead.
@tito1655 Exactly right! Rembrandt's portraits have psychological complexity and profound emotional character. On top of this I think Rembrandt had deeply felt human sympathy for his subjects and understood suffering and sadness, which is apparent if you look into the eyes of many of his sitters.
Wonderful selection - nicely to see and explore, i especially like the music!
Days ago i was in the Rembrandt Exhibition in the Vienna Albertina, faboulously! Really an old Master at its Best! There was insight in the life of this era, the hard working life of the rural population, wonderful landscapes of the Netherlands!
what does mean the expression "torch song"? Personnaly I like it very much, specialy in a beautiful sequence of Marty Scorsese's Casino.please excuse my english
A torch song is a popular sentimental love song, especially if it deals with disappointment in love.
I agree that a torch song perfectly suits Martin Scorsese's "Casino." It carries ironic undertones in that case because it is in proper historical context.
However, torch songs bear absolutely no relationship, though, to 17th century Dutch Painting.
naw i dont look like him. Im acually alot more indonesian then dutch.(Indonesia was Hollands colony untill 1945)Indonesia exiled anyone that was dutch. My father being a quarter dutch was sent to Holand then to America where he grew up.

A truly divine master! A bliss to humanity.
p.s. I love classical music but Carmen is completely not suited for his paintings...

When I play this video it doesn't play Dinah Washington's song. It's playing an opera song and I would really like to know who composed it.....

visually very pleasant; audiably distracting, out of place... but as the saying goes "art is art for its own sake".

I really don't understand the relationship you are trying to set up between the music and the images.
What does a 20th century American torch song have to do with Rembrandt's work?

Don't worry my friend, your English is just fine.

Rembrandt is my great(x 12)uncle! I didnt inherit any of his paintings though. van Rijn is pronounced like van Ryan
vanrijn360 4 years ago
are you joking? Did you discover any ressemblance with your Uncle's self portraits.? If so, you should illustrate your profile with a picture of you.
