@metodable haha you are almost right...muay thai is CLOSER to self-defense than tkd..but really... can Muay compare to the likes of Krav Maga when it comes to self-defence? Both of these are a sport
@metodable You're right about Muay Thai being like self defense nower days, which is a shame. The original Muay Thai was used in ancient Thai fields of battle, not to defend, but to attack and take down opponents swiftly. However, Thai kickboxers now "play safe" in order to lengthen their career lifespans.
I have always seen the Tai Kwondos being bitten by others, can some TKD explain. Why the hell he kept his hands near his chamber all the time and not near his face to protect it. One limitation of karate is that if you play one kick eg. roundhouse kick the opponent is able to hit your other leg and you fall dawn on the floor but i think in Kung Fu they fold their other kick while playing one. I also think that when you have to play against some kickboxer , use inner and outer kicks to break hand

TKD has too much fancy kicks plus their kicks don't even seem to be that powerful I like TKD but if you wanna train to fight go with Muay Thai its a lot better
I LOOOOOVEEED the way the Muay Thai simply grab the TKD kicking leg, and throw low roundhouse to the remaining standing leg (at the back of leg = even more pain).
from this video all i can say is TKD is all about jumps spins all kicks, if you miss that great looking spinning kick in the air, your fucked, wont even win against drunk Russian in the bar
@Fyeagass16 .. i will never spin kick or do any fancy kicks on a bar..i will just smash a chair on his face.. and while his down..that is the time i will do my fancy kicks.. ha ha ha
my opinion, is that styles and disciplines have little influence in the fight, the mayor part here, is to use your skills, strenghts and brains to win

@neutralhero999 yes.. mt guy shown better skills than the tkd guy.. the thai guy not even evading the kicks.. but the axekick and turning back kick failed to hit a target.. it seems the tkd guy heart was not on that matched..i skills not the style win a match
@neutralhero999: A brawler? Since when did refined technique become brawling? I don't see the Thai boxer swinging wildly. Targeting the same spot or using your most effective weapon is strategy. Unlike the TKD fighter, with all due respect to practitioners of this art, he just seem to be throwing random flashy kicks and side kicks. You can see the Thai boxer picking apart his defense and attacks. Where is the brawler again?
Right there, using Muay Thai. You know, the guy who just schooled the other guy? Sorry, but that's how I define guys who can take you down without straining themselves too much.
I know that, which is why I didn't say "TKD guy should have used super, ultra, powerful, OVER9000 tons of mega kick of death to MT guy's gonads". What I meant was that TKD guy should have aimed to take MT guy down, NOT knock him out or pull his breath out with MIScalculated strikes. Unlike what the MT guy was REPEATEDLY doing, catching TKD guy's foot and then kicking his other leg to throw him off-balance.
I'm a TKD practitioner, and I can honestly say that the conditioning in TKD is nothing compared to Muay Thai. I've been training for 5 years, and I STILL haven't done a single squat in the training sessions. Unless a Tkd fighter trains as a real fighter, not for scoring points (which it pretty much is nowadays), or against his own style, but for real combat, THEN he could consider fighting a Muay Thai fighter. Otherwise it's a painful waste of time. Don't get me wrong though, TKD has benefits.
@BayanAreef So true, I did TKD for 2 years and the training was not intense. Mostly you work on speed and technique and during sparring you only try to "tag" the person. I now do Muay Thai and I can say that after my first class, I had to skip the whole week because I was too sore form the training. And the sparring is so intense that you need to train atleast a whole year before you are allowed to try it.
@BayanAreef It depends on how hard you train. Some Taekwondo gyms now don't teach traiditionally. I've seen Traditional Taekwondo and it is as tough as Muay Thai training. There are more than one sport for Taekwondo, but Muay Thai is only sport.
@BayanAreef Good points, but personally I think it tends to depend on the region where you train at and where your instructor/master is from. I know some tkd guys who will literally size you up just to chop you the fuck down. And then I know some who do the tap shit all day.
@BayanAreef What would be the benefits of Taekwondo, sir? Cause I don't see any appart from learning a lot of kicks, very elegant indeed but pretty useless in real fight
@istocco Benefits of TKD: Distancing, counter-attacking, targeting, kicking speed + reaction time, very powerful kicks (such as back-kick) and timing. All of these would be useful in a fighting situation ONLY IF the fighter is able to adapt the skills and techniques into a realistic and more intelligent way .Look up "Serkan Yilmaz" and you'll see Taekwondo used properly. Taekwondo + another (realistic) style = superior skillz to both styles.
You can throw your legs around all over the place but at the end of the day Muay Thai has many advantages, not only is it a simpler practice, as many people here quite rightly mentioned its conditioning is to that of a FULL CONTACT PRO level.
Ive trained at both, and TKD does require strength and dexterity, but its more an art form that a practical fighting method.
Of course the ultimate is MMA, as that is a better representation of a complete fight from ground to standing strikes.
Taekwondo guy obviously has no clue. He can't fight worth a crap. The Thai boxer is not even that good but the Thai Boxer is much much more conditioned than the Tae guy.
tkd is deadly as well but muay thai has +elbows + knees.. tkd has 2340289347807 kicks and a few punches.. in a long range combat tkd wins in closer ragne muay thai wins .. but its all about who trained more and we all know that muay thai training is more brutal .. but in a long period tkd training allows you to control your legs like is your hands!! for me muay thai is better for kicking some ass but tkd is not as lame as it seems to be
Muay thai has the greater advantage all of the kicks thrown by the black belter doesnt have an effect on him and believe me Muay thai is deadlier than tkd
There is a lot of differences in both styles, KB its more aggresive and Brutal, Tk Most powerful hits is the Cross and Round Kick, Obviously this guy cant do right those hits, Kudos to both of them.
@tommymonsternz Training in MMA, I was told many times to use my arms to put more power behind my kicks. I wasn't trained to do that in my previous styles, and it bothered me. Their argument is, if you're using your legs, you're at such a distance, that your head is out of range. If you watch the MMA fights, you can see that there are many fighters that do drop their hands when they kick. Many of them get away with it.
@bonvivant55 many of those mma fighters are brawlers when it comes to striking. So a straight cross is foriegn to them. but i promise you top tier MMA guys will make u pay for mistakes and openings. and a muay thai kick has less distance than other kicks, so your head is in better range for attack than in other styles.
i done tae kwon do 4 10 years started when i was 13 now ive started thai kick boxing very different tae kwon do is alot of kicks all types thai kick boxing has only 2 kicks front kick sheen kick BUT the sheen kick can brake ur leg tae kwon do is more 2 wound get away thai kick boxing is 2 bake u on the floor 2 never get up
what a fucking pussy! i did taekwondo for 7 years and i have met people with 3 times as much skill as that guy! MMA and stuff for the grappaling is good but facing multiple opponents u dont want to go down on the floor cus street fighting for real the other guys friends will just kick the shit outa you. gotta be light on your feet fast strong and take the opportunitys
when you're talking about fancy footwork, everyone please take a second and look at capoeira. who is going to give you the time to even get on the ground to get into position of your kick?
@bmc868 There are A LOT of differences. BJJ is brazilian while Traditional JJ is Japansese. Traditional was made for combat during war. BJJ was made for competition. Traditional JJ teaches how to fight standing up and on the ground. BJJ only teacehs ground fightng.
I never was a tae kwon do fan but that guy shows what most of them are like unfortunately, and muay thai is just brutal compared to the tkd, look at the strength of his lowkick alone, no fancy spins or shit like that just plain striking force meant to destroy the enemy
@MutsuKazuma I am a certified instructor in Muay Thai. I trained in Bangkok. It really depends on what part of Thailand you go to whether or not you'll see flashy kicks. In the North of Thailand fighters throw lots of wild kicks. In the Bangkok area guys rarely throw any kicks other than a roundhouse. Fighters in the south primarily use elbows and knees. And for the record the thai boxer is pretty slow compared to many guys I've fought.
@duke8287 No offense, but, as poorly as the ITF Taekwondo fighter performed, he actually did better against that Thai boxer than many other Taekwondo stylists would have. At least he landed a few techniques (as futile as they might have been), and didn't get knocked out (though he likely would have if the fight had continued several more rounds or so).
@quanfa88 The most unfortunate point is that, judging from the black stripes on the Taekwondo fighter's uniform, he was at minimum a 4th dan (4th degree black belt). That means he has been training regularly for at least 14-15 years (more likely 18-20). If, after that much training, one cannot even mount an effective defense or meaningful attack, something is clearly wrong with the training method.
@quanfa88 the guy in this video has not been training that long, at least not in competition. I rekkon 2 or 3 yrs max, half the time spent on some useless form of light to no contact sparring. Im sorry but i dont care wut belt hes wearing or what stripes he has, i look at skill in the ring, thats my ranking system, and he is intermediate at best, a sloppy one.
Are headkicks and punches not allowed in this tournament? Because if it was legal. The teakwon guy would have been beheaded as soon as his leg was captured. And also,
The taekwon lost all hope when he felt the difference in bone density of their legs when they had shin to shin contact. Im not saying muay thai is superior. But the muay thai guy is obviously more highly trained and CONDITIONED.
@mcserrona YO CREO QUE TODO DEPENDE DEL PELEADOR TODAS LAS ARTES MARCIALES SON BUENAS SOLO QUE ALGUNOS TIENEN LA CAPACIDAD DE PERFECCIONARLAS MAS QUE OTROS EN ESTA PELEA ES CLARO QUE EL PELEADOR DE TAEKWONDO ES MUY MALO Y NO PERDIO POR EL ARTE MARCIAL SI NO POR QUE NO ES OPONENTE DEL PELEADOR DE MUAYTHAI.
I DO believe it's about the individual versus the style - until the individual becomes so locked into a style that he/she loses individuality altogether. Having said that: the Thai Boxer was relaxed, simple and efficient---simple sweeps, grabs, interceptions, economy of motion, and explosive.... his opponent was not... that's why he dominated this match-up...
Take away those rings and ropes. All these western inventions are barbaric and the entire setting don't respect real fighters. We only need drawing a circle or square on the floor like Olympics are really enough. When you don't want to fight, all you need to do is just stepping outside the line and inform anyone of the panel judges.
I totally agree with some of you about the styles of fighting. There's no better art. Its all depend on the person who practice the art. All arts are very compatible. Person to person varies very much. It depends how you value the art that you love.
I did Taekwondo and im doing Thaibox right now ... Honestly guys both sports are very good for your health ( atleast the trainings are ) I cant decide wich one is better , i like both , actually i like all Fighting sports , UFC, MMA you name it !
@IVIaGooxHD heya! im doing the same as you right now..i still use some tkd kicks such as tornado kick and spinning hook but have replaced the round house with the muay thai power angle kick and the tiep (push kick) and also use western boxing to round out my hand usage....as well as a few moves from other styles.
@IVIaGooxHD whatever i can use in the street which in my case is muay boran (ancient boxing) but with that there is some predictability with it as to where tkd has many different strikes to keep your attacker guessing my advice to you would be to mix it...take what works for you from different styles and make your own out of them...^^ Katajikenai
from the 18 secs, the TKD guy already KNEW he was gonna lose

@neutralhero999 That's right
, but TKD guy in this clip doesn't seem to has enough striking power to do that.
( and he performed many of waste moves )
In Muay Thai , the warrior defense only for left & right.
Cuz , their have been trained for tough body & legs
( especially leg bone , the hardest part of their leg ).
If TKD guy want to K.O. him , he should strike very hard
at the lower end of enemy's breastbone , or even a rib / precious joints
and strike continuously with combination.

Cause I don't see any appart from learning a lot of kicks, very elegant indeed but pretty useless in real fight
istocco 1 month ago
@istocco Benefits of TKD: Distancing, counter-attacking, targeting, kicking speed + reaction time, very powerful kicks (such as back-kick) and timing. All of these would be useful in a fighting situation ONLY IF the fighter is able to adapt the skills and techniques into a realistic and more intelligent way .Look up "Serkan Yilmaz" and you'll see Taekwondo used properly. Taekwondo + another (realistic) style = superior skillz to both styles.

the tkd guy did pretty good. Any average person would have lost after the first 3 kicks.

Muay Thai beats everything.
ImKoolWithThis 3 months ago

Red Belt ? Pfft . They should send in a black belt guy :D
XxLOLxX63 3 months ago
Muay thai has the greater advantage all of the kicks thrown by the black belter doesnt have an effect on him and believe me Muay thai is deadlier than tkd

Many of them get away with it.
bonvivant55 4 months ago
@bonvivant55 many of those mma fighters are brawlers when it comes to striking. So a straight cross is foriegn to them. but i promise you top tier MMA guys will make u pay for mistakes and openings. and a muay thai kick has less distance than other kicks, so your head is in better range for attack than in other styles.

@bmc868 There are A LOT of differences. BJJ is brazilian while Traditional JJ is Japansese. Traditional was made for combat during war. BJJ was made for competition. Traditional JJ teaches how to fight standing up and on the ground. BJJ only teacehs ground fightng.
toyhut2 6 months ago
@toyhut2 BJJ was not invented for competition. It just happens to have a popular sport form. Japanese jiu-jitsu also has a sport form.

I never was a tae kwon do fan but that guy shows what most of them are like unfortunately, and muay thai is just brutal compared to the tkd, look at the strength of his lowkick alone, no fancy spins or shit like that just plain striking force meant to destroy the enemy
MutsuKazuma 6 months ago
@MutsuKazuma I am a certified instructor in Muay Thai. I trained in Bangkok. It really depends on what part of Thailand you go to whether or not you'll see flashy kicks. In the North of Thailand fighters throw lots of wild kicks. In the Bangkok area guys rarely throw any kicks other than a roundhouse. Fighters in the south primarily use elbows and knees. And for the record the thai boxer is pretty slow compared to many guys I've fought.

duke8287 7 months ago 21
@duke8287 No offense, but, as poorly as the ITF Taekwondo fighter performed, he actually did better against that Thai boxer than many other Taekwondo stylists would have. At least he landed a few techniques (as futile as they might have been), and didn't get knocked out (though he likely would have if the fight had continued several more rounds or so).
quanfa88 6 months ago
@quanfa88 The most unfortunate point is that, judging from the black stripes on the Taekwondo fighter's uniform, he was at minimum a 4th dan (4th degree black belt). That means he has been training regularly for at least 14-15 years (more likely 18-20). If, after that much training, one cannot even mount an effective defense or meaningful attack, something is clearly wrong with the training method.
quanfa88 6 months ago

@mcserrona YO CREO QUE TODO DEPENDE DEL PELEADOR TODAS LAS ARTES MARCIALES SON BUENAS SOLO QUE ALGUNOS TIENEN LA CAPACIDAD DE PERFECCIONARLAS MAS QUE OTROS EN ESTA PELEA ES CLARO QUE EL PELEADOR DE TAEKWONDO ES MUY MALO Y NO PERDIO POR EL ARTE MARCIAL SI NO POR QUE NO ES OPONENTE DEL PELEADOR DE MUAYTHAI.
bruboni100 3 months ago
I DO believe it's about the individual versus the style - until the individual becomes so locked into a style that he/she loses individuality altogether. Having said that: the Thai Boxer was relaxed, simple and efficient---simple sweeps, grabs, interceptions, economy of motion, and explosive.... his opponent was not... that's why he dominated this match-up...
yoshiofdeath 7 months ago
Take away those rings and ropes. All these western inventions are barbaric and the entire setting don't respect real fighters. We only need drawing a circle or square on the floor like Olympics are really enough. When you don't want to fight, all you need to do is just stepping outside the line and inform anyone of the panel judges.

I totally agree with some of you about the styles of fighting. There's no better art. Its all depend on the person who practice the art. All arts are very compatible. Person to person varies very much. It depends how you value the art that you love.

IVIaGooxHD 8 months ago
@IVIaGooxHD heya! im doing the same as you right now..i still use some tkd kicks such as tornado kick and spinning hook but have replaced the round house with the muay thai power angle kick and the tiep (push kick) and also use western boxing to round out my hand usage....as well as a few moves from other styles.

@Uberologist lol cool , but which sport do you prefer?:d i think its tough to decide o.o' cuz' i really like both :o
IVIaGooxHD 8 months ago
@IVIaGooxHD whatever i can use in the street which in my case is muay boran (ancient boxing) but with that there is some predictability with it as to where tkd has many different strikes to keep your attacker guessing my advice to you would be to mix it...take what works for you from different styles and make your own out of them...^^ Katajikenai
