  • @tazrules1970 - I shot you my e-mail onto your youtube page.

  • rush sucks

  • I'm pissed for two reasons. 1: I can't find this song anywhere and 2: This was not on the Balance album, even though it would have made it top the charts. Does anyone have this song?

  • @Earthterra1 - I have it. Shoot me your email address and I'll send it to you.

  • Van Hagar more was talent than Van Rothberg.

  • This very well might be the best song that VH did with Sam. It's a downright shame that it didn't make it to most people. The ending is just nasty good.

  • hahaha.... look at 2:03 it looks like it says CUMSHOT VICTIM hahaha..

  • Eddie really should have kept the overgrown goatee. Looks like a maturing rockstar w/ that thing. W/o he looks like every middle-aged white LA music columnist all smashed into one middle-aged white LA music columnist.

  • Cool tune! Still don't know who I like better: Dave or Sammy. Both!

  • Wow I have never listened to a track of his that I never have liked, It may sound odd but who cares!

I am glad that took up the guitar when I did although I will never be as good as himself and will never proclaim to be, yet If i could manage just a tiny bit the I would be happy.

  • Not a fan of sammy, but Musically this is solid as usual.I hope the new album is good.I'm dying for some new songs from vh.The music today out there isn't very good.I hope vh can bring back that raw rock sound wiith roth.I like this though. It's mysterious and low key yet still quality.Always great to hear something new from these guys on youtube even if it's old.I love finding stuff like this. Thanks to whoever posted this. :0)

  • It's a shame they didn't put this out on Balance for everybody. This tune is amazing and inspiring.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Alex's drums are 5150-style electric drums.

  • @SuperGaleford you are wrong....eddie is playingdrums in one speaker alex is playing in the other

  • Definitely a nod in Kashmir's direction at the end of this track. Overall it sounded like it wasn't quite finished . Probably the reason it didn't make the cd. I would love to see them "finish this and release it. Loved the band from '79(at age 13) and felt like the music grew up with me. Maturing when Sammy entered the band as I entered my early 20's. AS much as I love Eddie I have to say that if anyone squandered his golden years It was Eddie himself. We should be glad he had Sammy to lean on.

  • the best part of this song is the end...starting around 4:00...Ed's riff is just awesome

  • @BackAlleyTV

This song was written and partially recorded in 83 and would have been sung by DLR. It would have been interesting to hear his take on it. My argument was never who was better I just want new music (without Gary Cherone)! By the way do you hear Zep's Kashmir at the end of the tune?

  • @rufus566 no. where is Kasmir? I dont hear anything Led Zeppelin. I only hear Van fucking Halen.

  • @TheMireaux7

Starting at about 4:00 minute mark you can clearly hear a nod to Kashmir. It is not a bad thing and probably intentional.

  • Hmmm Gary Cherone?

  • It could have been an all time great if not for the singer..sammy just doesn't fill the spot. Overpowering when he should be whispering...off tone when it requires precision....Perhaps the best years of Eddie were wasted behind (man when I think of...) OK not perhaps

  • excellent!!!! Sammy is a great writer song and guitar, my dream is to go on with the chickenfoot but pardon, i know how mr vh and mr hagard are magnificious, big in real, and give so good things, with the balance album, i take a pleasure i can t explain, how in my life he gives, c'est un vrai, he's real

  • roth is better

  • I personally am a Sammy guy all the way, i just think he has a much stronger voice, and in fact i think Sammy Hagar has one of the strongest and most distinct voices in rock music ever. Long live the Red Rocker and long live Van Halen

  • @MidnightRambler73

Jump was about suicide. Dave walked into the record company and somebody was trying to jump off the roof to kill themselves. The crowd was yelling jump. Dave wrote an anthem.

  • Dave vs. Sammy.... screw it... I love them both.

I try to look at the bright side, new VH album with Roth incoming, and new Chickenfoot with Sam and Mike around the same time. How sweet is that?!?

But, if you hold a gun to my head and ask to pick a favorite? That's easy.

Ed. The reason I play guitar.

FWIW, this song was the most I ever paid for a single track. $60 for the Japanese import CD.... just for this one extra track (back in the day)... honestly, worth every penny

  • Listen to this wearing headphones. Mind. Fucking. Blown :D

  • dave's better then sammy just face it guys sammy was a fag, they were amazing with dave.

  • I like all van halen!

  • i love all eras of vanhalen and i hate all the "so- called fans" who hated vanhalen III... if u hated vanhalenIII u werent a real vanhalen fan in the first place!!!

  • personally i lost track of VH, (still like their old music) but started sounding the same to me. so now I'm going to get shit stormed.

  • why this song was not on the album will always puzzle me its a great song

  • I have the original version of this. You can split the Channels. Eddie originally recorded this song by himself with him playing all parts and singing. It is about his friend dying. When they decided to release the song they overdubbed Alex and Sammy on a separate channel. If you have the original you can split them and separate the two. Pretty cool stuff. it sounds different in where you are in relation to the speakers as well.

  • EVH is GOD

  • The intro of this song are the main two chords in Right Now (intro and coda). In fact, I once did a crossfade from the end of Right Now into the beginning of Crossing Over on a mix I made. It was a cool transition because they were pretty much at the same tempo and both in the same key. I like this song with both Alex and Eddie playing drums on it.

  • A beautiful tribute to their long time manager died suddenly before Balance was recorded. Then Ray Danniels came in and destroyed Van Halen forever.

  • @vaportrails44

    Which manager was that?

  • @vaportrails44 That's funny because Ray was and still is RUSH's manager. Ray must have placed more emphasis on RUSH than her did Van Halen, for maybe he forseen the eventual breakdown of Van Halen. But then again, he was with RUSH long before Van Halen too, and RUSH has had nothing but success.

  • @1325ACO. Rush never achieved the success that VH has and has had for decades. I'm not saying Rush is bad. They're awesome. VH is just more awesome. As for Ray, he just wasn't the right man for VH. It takes magic from everyone to keep a band viable. He just didn't work well with VH. No slight on him. That's just how it is sometimes.

  • @thisischavez Yeah, I can see where VH would have more commercial success than RUSH. However, I can see RUSH having much better touring success than VH simply because they're ALWAYS out there on the road. As for Ray, I really don't know anything about him other than he looks like a dork. Looking at him irritates me for some reason lol. But yeah, I understand where you're coming from on both issues and I think they both can be annalyzed positiv ely and negatively against each other

  • @1325ACO. Also, the fact that Rush is not in the Hall of Fame is just ludicrous. Every year I lose more and more respect for everyone who votes on the inductees. The Hall is a sham.

  • All the way up to 49 seconds of this song, its AWESOME! This Whole thing is an into to a GREAT HARD ASS HEAD BANGIN CLASSIC! WHY oh WHYYYYYY did they keep it so fuckin melo? My Band is going to learn this entry....then we are going to move it up about 10 notchesin serious Van Hagar style to make Sammy proud! I hope Eddie appreciates what we're going to do to this.

  • Now this is VH.

  • as weird and simple as it sounds, dave brings out the best in ed. like no other person has ever done. dave plays guitar, it sounds good-"angel eyes".

  • World best living guitarist, next to SLukather

  • An unusual piece indeed .

  • which ever front man they have, there is still 3 other members that make the music, it's all good

  • is it just me or did Alex bust out the electronic drums for this track?

  • @wsaer56 Alex's drums sound like this all through Balance.

  • @jimihendrix225 ah ok...I guess I only really seem to notice it on this particular track

  • This is such a good song it's almost as good as Once on Van Halen 3.

  • @RainbowLantern and Year to the Day. Great tunes off an underrated album that the mainstream VH fans judged far too quickly and listened to the critics of 1998 who couldn't play their way out of a paper bag. Critics = people who are forced to listen to 20 albums a day and give their opinion on bands that they have no personal connection with. Some songs need to be heard three or four times before it intertwines with your emotions. Sometimes it's about feel. Like most good guitar players have.

  • I full on agree sir, very underrated album

  • I'm not afraid to admit that I can rock on and enjoy the music regardless if DLR, Sammy, or Gary is singing. Three different eras, three quite impressive eras of music. I believe it is too bad most fans simply cant relax a bit and enjoy Van Halen in its entirety.

  • if u guys were real =VH= fans you would like sammy, dave, gary, mike, and wolfgang...

  • This track is apparently about a friend committing suicide, I love this track & support friends in this position to stand up accept help from whom you're comfortable with, please!

    Van Halen rock!

  • Cool song! It's a little raw and unprocessed... The video material is also used in a great way.

  • I was able to actually pick this version up at a pawn shop for a great price. This song should've been on the US release for sure. GREAT song. People may think Roth is the better of the two but with Hagar they some awesome, thought-provoking music and they could rock out when they were 'on'!!!

  • Eddie Looks Like Chris Rea in this vid

  • Why oh WHY was this not released on the Balance album? This song kicks ASS!!!

  • Can you Imagine if this song came out on a new VH album with Dave on Vocals? Would sound awesome live.

  • very underated song. great drums and vocals.

  • every single era of van halen was good, even gary for christ sake, van halen is amazing, all three singers brought something unique to the table, don't fight it, enjoy it

  • @gtrincs You and me might be the smartest fockers on youtube...

  • @gtrincs damn straight!!

  • This sounds like bird shit. Starts off really cool with Ed doing volume swell stuff then it goes into the toilet when Hagar sings...chorus is awful. I can see why they left this turd off the album

I hear a little Kasmir nod from 3:45 on.

  • just say the name of the band...

    Van Halen..

is the name of the band David Roth?

I grew up on VH with dave and loved the concerts and pot back then...

eddie alex and mike all have lifes too ... its just a band.

eddie has secured his place in history .. he changed music..

dave changed singing? not.. but I do love dave .. he's the shit...

  • This looks fanmade.

  • @contact1araya the video is, it's a collection of clips from videos between Ou812 through Balance.

  • I wonder why he wrote 5150 on that Music Man, i mean the 5150 is a Kramer.

  • @RussianCivilian

5150 is a state of mind....its actually american police dispatch code for someone who is out of control insane crazy.....his home studio is 5150, his guitars, his amps all are 5150........it was an inside joke in the VH circle in the 80's........

  • @RussianCivilian It's also his first Peavey amp head, as well as the second named 5150+, and then his new amp with Fender under the EVH tm, named the 5150 III, and then there is his studio also named 5150, a Kramer as you mentioned as well as a Music man with 5150 on it. So why are you asking why he put 5150 on the Music Man? As it seems to me that it's almost a trademark, as opposed to being the name of his Kramer, which was a Beretta(if I remember correctly).

  • I believe Eddie's the problem in Van Halen. Think about the track record he has...

Fired David Lee Roth three or four times

    Fired Sammy Hagar twice

Fired Gary Cherone (although Warner Bros. forced a hand in Eddie's decision)

    Fired numerous managers

    Lost their record deal

Dissolved endorsements with musical instrument companies

Divorced Valerie Bertinelli, because he chose alcohol and cigarettes over her

Fired Michael Anthony, just so his son can jam with him

  • @DefLeppardVanHalen well, you just like dave, have forgotten what the band van halen is about----ITS ALL BOUT EDDIE even the band said that in a early interview, without eddie this band would have gotten no where

  • @ad30279 What about Alex? He also has a say.

  • there was this interview i listened to the other night, Sammy stated that "the reason why he left was because it took Eddie months to come up with a solo, i;m not sure if hes lying or what be one thing is that they haven't came up with a song in 6 years, no offense to Eddie, I listen to all of the songs, both Dave and Sammy songs, and he got me to play guitar a lot better

  • aaaaaaaah that guitar stuff is awesome again <3

  • "Crossing Over" was originally written and recorded by Eddie Van Halen in 1983, shortly after one of his friends had committed suicide. After the death of manager Ed Leffler ten years later, the band decided to use Eddie's recorded track on electronic drums and develop a song out of it. It was arguably one of the darkest tracks Van Halen ever made.

  • UNDENIABLY the BEST SONG!!!!

  • Uh oh... somebody let Alex write a song.

  • this song is awesome? wtf r talking about

  • ???

  • this song is awesome

  • @DarthKazi haha yeah its wondefull XD

  • An absolutely stunning arrangement full of eerie mystery and audiologic euphoria.

  • I love this song!!!

  • I never understood why this song was not included on Balance and (save for "Strung out") the two self indulgent instrumentals "doin' time" and "Baluchitherium" were. My bro said "Crossing Over sounds like a Led Zeppelin arrangement " and being that "Big Fat Money" was already Zeppelin-esque ("Rock and Roll"), I guess they kept this track off to keep the comparison critiquing to the minimum.

  • "Reign Of The Warriors" Is One Of The Best Guitar Songs Ever Recorded In My Opinion

  • this is on the japanise version

  • Good stuff.

  • teresa said yes

  • I thought this is a pretty good tune...too bad that it was released as a single and not included on the U.S. Balance cd. At the time the explaination was simple. The market in Japan needed something extra. How many tickets did they sell in Japan on the last tour?

  • this is pretty good song sammy hagar is a great singer no matter what people say about him. They has quite a few masterpieces with him

  • This track is massive, I rate it as a mammoth Halen tune!

    Well balanced tune!

  • brian loves teresa

  • Second great song that was cut. Crossing Over and Human Beings

  • Dave would never have let this song get out of the studio.

    Excellent cut

  • One of the best B sides recorded. This, Humans Being, and Right now for the VH-Sammy era trifecta!

  • Just fukin awsume !!! Oh My,,,,,,,,,,,

  • I'm so sick and tired of people complaining about Sammy Hagar not being good enough for Van Halen. How come people didn't get this angry when Ringo replaced Pete Best for the Beatles, or when Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr replaced Ace Frehley and Peter Criss from KISS. What about when Chad Smith and Gilby Clark replaced Izzy and Steve from Guns 'N Roses, and when they kicked Sebastian out of Skid Row??? If were going to be this outraged about lineup changes let's spread it around a little!

  • ON ya man. I don't know why Sam is so maligned. He saved Van Halen in 1985 when DLR took off and brought them to new hights. They never recovered after they FIRED him in 1996.

  • until they brought him back in 07

  • Comment removed

  • @foxheadspeed Sam or DLR? Cuz Sam was 2004-2006. DLR was brough back in 2007. Sorry me confused.

  • @GiddyBoy24 Because all those people you mentioned were replaced and if anything the band got better... but with Hagar a peice of the legendary Van Halen was lost

  • I believe this song was written in memory of their manager Ed Leffler. There was an episode on Celebrity Ghost Encounters where Sammy Hagar talks about his encounter with the spirit of their old manager.

  • I would love to see a new album but I am not holding my breath. When Eddie said a couple months back that Dave checks in with the band every now and then that really makes me wonder. It makes me think that the tour 2 years ago was just another tease. Eddie is a great talent but I think he has a nack for testing his fanbase.

  • Seems weird to think how professional Van Halen seemed when Balance came out. Such a deep and serious album (mostly). How could this awesomeness turn into Van Halen 3 just 2 years later? How egos collide...

  • Van Halen 3???? Balance was the last Van Halen Album. there's no such thing as VH3, it didn't happen, its been erased from history

    :-)

  • Time told the tale. Sammy seems not to be problem, nor Dave, or Gary for that matter (great singer... should NEVER have been in this band). The problem is with the VAN HALEN'S! Cutting MIKEY loose and losing their record deal?!?! Proof there is no direction in this band!

  • Can't agree more Mojo. Nothing is ever even heard about Alex anymore. Its all Ed. TV shows and guitar magazine interviews are all fair enough...but the merchandise peddeling needs to stop and we need Van Halen IV. People cried for a reunion...3/4 of it happened....but still no album?

  • Still lovin this tune- great drums and guitar

  • hell yea

  • Actually Dave is a stuck up Son of a Bitch.

Not to mention the real Van Halen fan likes all their music. If you want david Lee Roth Listen to Dave. Stop makeing Dave the whole band

  • YOU Nailed IT!!!!!!!!!!! REAL VAN HALEN FANS LIKE ALL THEIR MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS THE KEY EDDIE IS THE GREATEST WHOEVER HE IS WITH AND THE REST OF THE BAND IS GREAT NO MATTER WHO THEIR SO CALLED FRONT MAN IS, I AM SO GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Actually...I find Hagar to be a more talented musician than David Lee Roth. I mean seriously, he plays guitar, I think he is a better singer...

Roth only really has his stage presence and arrogance to let people know who he is...

I guess at some points he can have a good voice as well.

Don't get me wrong, I like both sides of Van Halen...Roth and Hagar (maybe a Cherone song or 2). Just there is clear talent in Hagar that the others didn't have

  • I think Roth is a natural born singer, frontman rockstar with style, Hagar is maybe a more educated singer but styleless. When he's on stage, who cares.

  • Actually, David Lee not only ALSO plays the guitar, he is pretty fucking good as well! Seriously, he's a pretty good finger picking guitarist. BTW, I loved both classic VH as well as Van Hagar but I'd rather the VH brothers stay with Roth and RELEASE A NEW CD FOR FUCKS SAKE!!

  • Oh yeah! I forgot that David played guitar..

    my bad =(

Its just not very apparent in the studio works. Sammy playing guitar is much more obvious. I want them to release an album too =)

  • @ironman9330 So interesting you write,,,,just wonder who are you to judge people like that ? what is talant ,,,what is good ? let us know what your are golden rules.

I myself belive,,,its not the meaning to put peolple aginst people,,,,,just enjoy and be in the flow,,,,,,

  • @ironman9330 Well on Dave's defense, Dave also plays guitar. The intro to Take Your Whiskey Home, Could This Be Magic (the rhythm guitar) Ice Cream Man intro.

  • @ironman9330 - totally agree, Hagar is the more talented and their music was better after he joined.

  • @ironman9330 Hagar gives them a full sound and he brings them the soul of his voice. With Roth it was always uneven and he never harmonized with any backup singers. Hagar allowed Eddie to do more of what he does best.

  • @ironman9330 Roth did play guitar too. I know for sure during live concerts he played the acoustic parts of Ice Cream Man. I like all eras of Van Halen. I don't want to join in the debate, but I did want to point out he did play guitar too.

  • @fatkatz77

And he sang ice cream man amazingly :D

  • meh, i say to u, they NEED dave, they didnt need sammy swagger...

  • @kane5000 judging by daves solo career...maybe he needed them.

  • 5150, OU812, F.U.C.K and Balance albums inspired my life. This song is one of my favorite in Balance album although I don't have this track in my CD, I manager to get it from somewhere from internet later.

  • This is a brilliant song. I don't consider myself a big fan of Hagar's work with the band, but this one is a favorite of mine.

  • Power track, too good to be popular.

  • great song! can we see again to Eddie and Sammy togheter? i hope it!

  • Man, I would love for Sam and Ed to patch things up! I want Van Hagar back, w/ Mike on bass!

  • i don't, i wanna see mike, eddie, david, and alex all together. Thats when they were shreding it up, and blazing new trails for guitar!

  • i dont think mike and sam need van halen anymore but i hear ya.

  • I will second that! However, like someone else posted here I don't think Sammy amd Mike need Van Halen anymore. 3 weeks in the Top 10 Billboard (pop)Album

Chart for Chickenfoot. I am happy for their success...and it's a damn good rercord!

  • Van Halen at their pinacle...its a shame they went downhill after this....this is such a awesome song, on an awesome album

  • it all about dlr fuck hagar i dont care what any of u say

  • its all about eddie, always has been and always will be.

  • thats why he can barely get sells for his albums now....i mean come on he kicks michael anthony out of the band and put his son in....

  • ummm,what albums?

  • van halen 3 and that new shit he tried to sell in his best of both worlds cds...hes lost it

  • that was before Wolfgang.

  • i never said it wasent

  • before talking shit about VH how about you learn some shit. If you ask me, most musicians have lost sails in "cds" due to the internet!!! NEXT if you wanna talk some shit about EVH, i would like you to out play him. Eddie is the one who change rock on a dime, you couldn't even sell an album. TAKE A HIKE!

  • vh 3 sucked and im pretty sure had nothing to do with internet first off i never said eddie sucked he one of my fav guitar players i just dont like van hagar so get your facts straight before you get butthurt bout something and "take a hike"what r you 12?

  • what facts are you telling me here.

  • the fact is your in idiot

  • Didnt the japanese version of Balance only have one child on the swing as well? can someone confirm this? My friend was telling me about this awhile back.

  • Yes, you are correct as I have the version that you speak of.

  • right! i have the pic of that cd front

  • More incoherent drivel from Van Hagar.

  • and yet still better then anything roth did as a solo guy.

  • I'm not a big solo DLR fan, but Eat Em and Smile was a great record and is better than any of the Van Hagar crap. Dave lost his mind after that. This "song" isn't even up to par to the standard Van Hagar tripe.

Sorry, but Bette Midler and Ed ruined a once great band.

  • i remember yankee rose and goin crazy, other than that eat em was pretty bad.

  • Not quite.

  • awesome video tho but the song is ok i never loved van hagar some tunes but this one idk

  • this 1st came out on b/side of cant stop lovin u..bought it for 5 bucks at k/mart..

  • why do japanese versions always get bonus tracks

  • from what i've heard they have to pay alot more for music over there, so people like to give them there moneys worth.

  • I have read before that it is to make the versions held by Japanese consumers to be worth more and therefore the Japanese import requirement of having an extra track.

Didn't seem to start until the early 90's, but I could be way off.

  • I think Balance was one of the best albums Van Halen ever did

  • yeah, most albums vary from song to song on VH albums but that one is pretty solid and consistent

  • This tune holds the record for the most money I ever spent on a single track. I already had Balance... but had to get the Japanese version for the extra track.

    $60 for one song.

    Money well spent. ;)

Sam, Dave... eh... I loved 'em both in their own way.

  • the beginning sounds like the tapped harmonics Eddie does at the end of Right Now on the Right Here Right Now video/cd.

  • I personally liked Van Halen with Sammy Haggar. I really think it's a good fit.

(Get back together you guys) A fan, Class of "79" Old school.

  • could you please send me the mp3 to this?

id highly appreciate it if you could

    i cant find it anywhere

  • I'm going to add Balance to my collection, and much like "voodoochild1975", I plan on buying the Japanese pressing just for this song. An interesting thing you'll want to know is that Crossing Over is ALSO the b-side to the I Can't Stop Loving You single, which is much cheaper so if you already own the album, I would buy the single.

  • This is one of my favorite VH songs

  • This is such an under rated song. I want this Van Halen back!
