I peeked into my 66 yr old dad's room as I thought he was listening to the SOUL ASYLUM new release on you tube and having fun with music not his time.
PF Sloan has to be one of the greatest almost unheard of songwriters from the 60s - and so many of his songs, like this one, have a very depressing undercurrent to them, much like "Let me Be by the Turtles, "Where were you when I needed you" by the Grassroots, and of course, "Eve of Destruction". I saw him live a couple years ago, and he mentioned once he wrote 5 songs in one evening. Definitely one of my favorites.
check out the 2011 live version (look for HITS MEDLEY - 2 THE SEARCHERS - MAY 2011 on Youtube ) you ll be suprised how well they hold up even today -and now with a young drummer even more so.
Perfect lyrical and musical presentation in the customary "spit and polish" style of The Searchers, and regardless of what others might think or say, this group and yes, this paricular song should have been, not just modestly successful, but HUGE!
The searchers are a perfect representation of what good songs should be. This song has lyrics we can all relate to and his voice has the perfect combination of sweetness and sadness. I enjoy many of the entertainers today but they could take a lesson from these songs that were complete in lyric and arrangement.
When 'When I Get Home' failed they rushed this one out six weeks later, and just made it back to the top 20 after Christmas '65. Brilliant, Searchers at their best..
I didn't see any films of the beat lads here in Hungary in those 60s/70s ...because I would have had been going in-and-out - head-over-heals being fulltime inlove with many of these lads ... ahhhh... how lucky I was...hahaha :-))))))
Those guitar-string sounds in the beginning strokes right into my heart... lovey ... feelings come upon to memory lane where/when sweet things happend
Also, the photos were a real treat for the eyes! God save The Searchers whatever their particular line up because, by God they were all good! I always loved this band, and can only venture a guess as to how good they could have been with better management and if they had written more original material! That's all I got to say about that, and of course the obligatory: ROCK ON SHINDIGGERS! Thanks again You Tube and lorjim58 for including a dynamite and genuine classic!
Ringing guitars, nice vocal harmonies, and in general a good clean tight sound, don't look now I think it's The Searchers! Mike Pender had easily one of the most pleasant voices in Rock captivity! And whoever of their group or management chose their material they stumbled on a real nugget in P.F.'s "Take Me....", by far my fave post Tony Jackson Searchers' song, just a great tune, that was criminally overlooked in the 60's! As always thanks Y T for the space, lorjim58 for the upload, and ....
Right on your bad self fntime! This is a true classic, and what can you say that hasn't been said about "Needles and Pinza", but my all time fave Searchers' tune is a tossup between "Someday We're Gonna Love Again" or "Each Time" but that is neither here nor there, for you see Music is Art, and like Art it is extremely subjective, nothing is categorically better, it is only better recieived by the beholder! As aforementioned God Save The Searchers whoever they might be!! Take care fntime!
Yep. But there is good music being made today. It just isn't getting the airplay. I love The Searchers music and ,currently, Fleet Foxes and St Vincent are my 2 faves.

JeBeNL- Too Many Miles was ALMOST as good as this. Best 2- sided 45 ever- barely better than Turn Turn Turn/ She Don't Care About Time by the Byrds.

Chris Curtis, the drummer, did most of the arrangements! They were the best of the Brit Invasion bands. RIP Chris and Tony.....

Right on 9erfandex!
This and Needles & Pins, make them for
me hall of fame singers.
What would the 1960's be without the
Searchers, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Dave
Clark 5, Gerry & Pacemakers.
