@thuglife129 I know, how come they gonna come down on Julio Jones or Oregon but not come down on a Big Ten school (besides state) like Northwestern or Indiana. Face it, every school is paying there players money.
No Apology. DO you know how much the NCAA gets for a commercial? Forget football and basketball, those are way too easy, try all of it's other sports. @Archangel101576 Oh brother I see the sheet and the burning cross in your history. There argument seemed valid; the University was pulling in millions on there ablities and they were living in relative poverty in a sea of affulent white contemporaries. Bravo to those whom had the nerve to be honest when asked the question. Long live the UUUUUUUUU
What do you consider good or quality overhead for a profitable company? 40%. Okay well the university should only be allowed to take 1.4 times the money that education, housing, books, and meals cost them. The rest of the MILLIONS that are made off the team should go back into charities.
I've been a NCAA athlete, 3 meals is unrealistic for anybody with an athletic metabolism. I never took money, but I pretty much starved constantly because it takes 4-6 meals a day for non-70 yo's
@sharktrinity But when you go into being a college athlete, it it supposed to be for an education, NOT for a profit. You know your making the university money. That's why they recruit you! I do see what you're saying about the meals, but paying the players wouldn't make sense to me. @cmbuvi92 your first assertion made me giggle college scholarships for education!!! How many black athletic scholarships actually graduate. Its first and foremost a huge muli-media corporate operation with black men predominately, has cannon fodder for the hungry machine.
@cmbuvi92 so that justifies the universities making millions off of you? that justifies the schools selling jerseys with your number on it and so they dont have to pay you they dont put your name on it? for the last 4 years i seen nothing but florida gator #15 jerseys in malls and oh i have no idea who that is....college football is a monopoly thats why they dont want a playoff. they would rather leave millions on the table so that a selected few men can reap the benefits to themselves.
@meankookoo I doubt he'll admit to it especially now with USC. If paying players can decrease chances of players from stealing stuff and selling drugs then I'm for it. Athletes can't even accept a free meal from campus.

@knightguy11 once again here you are on a university of miami video.....you just can't stay away. You do not understand how Miami fans could enjoy this documentary? Let me explain, the Canes do not hide anything. It could be good or bad, scandal or championships. Where do the Gators mention that they almost received the death penalty in the late 80's early 90's? Nowhere...Miami does not hide the incidents. I am not proud of some of them, but it is out for all to see.
@yourserve16 I'm a Cane fan buddy and this is America. FYI: the Gators never "almost received the death penalty"???? are you serious. It was the early to mid 1980's and Florida was on probation. Spurrier came in in 1990 and the program has been one of the best in the Nation ever since.
@knightguy11 Yes serious. Per the NYT "It was the second time in six years the N.C.A.A. imposed sanctions on the Gators, who had faced the possibility of a two-year death penalty, which would mean suspension of the programs, for repeat violations." The date was sept 1990, a mere 5 yrs before Miami's pell Grant. Your original question was how can Miami fans be proud of that movie. My response was we take the good with the bad, unlike your Gators.
@yourserve16 Sorry buddy, but in 1984 the NCAA charged the Gators with many infractions. Just like USC today(2010) that is getting sactions for the 2002-2004 teams. The Gators of 1990 were super clean. I think I know a bit more about UF than you ever dreamed of. I love Miami and have been a fan for 30 years. Go Gators and Go Canes.
@knightguy11 did you read the paper? IT WAS DATED SEPT 1990....not 1984...they were on probation from 1984 and more infractions occurred under galen hall....here is another quote to help you out "Florida football coach [Steve Spurrier] is bombarded with questions after the NCAA puts the Gators on probation. ASSOCIATED PRESS BOX: UF's probation The football team will not be eligible to participate in any postseason competition following the 1990 season." from orlando sent 1990...pay for play
@yourserve16 in aug 1990 the ncaa held a hearing with UF in colorado to determine in UF lost institutional control....NCAA dropped the charge of institutional control but imposed other sanctions.....
@yourserve16 knock yourself out buddy....that was 20 years ago. I'm not concerned with that today. Florida has been the best of programs for a long, long time. I'm very proud of all UF's accompishments. Have a great day.
@yourserve16 Why would I be proud of any arrest?? It's always a shame when a young person makes bad choices. Every.....and I mean....every College football program has kids who make bad choices. I played Div 1 football, so I know a thing or two about that. YOu..have a great day.
@knightguy11 I see....so it is ok to be proud of the gators and their accomplishments even with their current arrest streak... but you can't understand how cane fans can be proud of the era that was covered by the film? the film portrayed the hurricanes as they were and shed some light on the problems they had to traverse...I am not proud of the issues portrayed on that film, but I am proud at what the school and those players accomplished....have a great day
@yourserve16 I"m proud of all those accomplishments also. I have said that numerous times. I just think the documentary was not a positive one. That is my opinion. Many Cane fans agree with me. I have lots a UM fans for friends. UM is a great school and has great football history. You should be proud of that.
bra before tim fagbow the gators were a 6-6 team barely even getting 2 a bowl game lets c who has a better record after this year living in the 80's wtf the 80 teams would rape any florida team and in the 2000s the 2001 and 2002 were the 2 greatest teams ever assembled in college football weve played for more national championships then yall have bowl games and thats a rape h8er
@Hey dousche bag, how many national championships have you won since 2002? ..........................am waiting? hahaahhaahhhaahaha faggot keep living in the 80's And hey miami vice reruns are playing on TNT! LMFAO@LOSERS LIVIN' IN THE 80'S!
@cubiche88 Trust me this documentary was not a good thing. 30 for 30 also did "Len Bias"(died of a cocaine overdose) "Oakland Raiders"(worst reputation in the NFL) etc.......How can you be proud of this documentary?? It made Miami look really bad. Funny how Miami fans are proud of this piece. I'm a Miami fan and I think it hurt the program.
shut craka u dnt kno wat u talkin bout u wouldnt make it 5 seconds in miami..stop hatein cuz these boys were doggin erybody up... ncaa get rich off these boys n they make all these irrelavent rules dat make no sense.. think b4 u talk craka
Please spare me the "Miami players had it worst of all" to try to rationalize them getting extra benefits and "stealing to eat". The vast majority of college football players across the country are African-Americans from low income families and struggling communities. Miami's players had it no worse than any other kid in Division 1-A.
@BBF83 why dont u stop tryna minimize the postion whites have put minorities in over the years. Im not a black mothafucka lookin 4 handouts or none of that shit but i do realize that at one point yall did allow us in your schools, wouldnt give us jobs and only in 70's and 80's (hence THE U) started givin blacks scholarships. why dont u stop tyrna be a hard ass. Especially at that time, young black players couldnt call mommy and ask for $100 like yall. times have changed and NOW there is no excus
Did you even read my comment? I'm not saying black college football players from low income backgrounds weren't put in a difficult position...I'm saying the Miami players that acted like they were the ONLY players in the country that had it rough and that gave them a license to do whatever they wanted is BS. The Canes were no worse off than any other player in college football.
every big time school slides stuff under the table to their talented recruits. it's just that it's easy to call attention to miami cause they have a history of being loud on the field.
of course this came from a white person. how you know where i'm going if you;ve never been where i been? i wouldn't speculate about something you have no idea about.
@dogfartt I enjoy seeing miami being a powerhouse in college football, but too bad they haven't been lately. It seems like the most staple of teams in college football all started sucking. Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, Nebraska, and Miami. Oh well, college football is the best sport there is and it continues to thrive even in times like this. btw, I'm not a miami fan but I do enjoy it when traditional powerhouses continue to be powerhouses.
And no, Corben doesn't need to fire his lighting guy - that's how he wanted to shoot it, the style of it. Hell, Corben probably was his own lighting guy - he's the one that is setting up the shots on his storyboard and looking at them
The Pell Grant Fraud was about as bad as it got - when you go to a school as expensive as Miami, I can see how it happens. Abusing long distance cards, steroids, etc. isn't exactly as bad as gun running & coke dealing by Oklahoma under Switzer or the woman abusing/raping that was going on under Osborne at Nebraska. You don't think steroids were prevalent in any other big time program in America? Haha, damn, whoever thinks that needs a huge slap of reality & common sense, right upside their head
You're telling me that in addition to those stupid tomahawks that FSU players get for making good plays, they also don't get "benefits" from boosters/alumni/business owners of establishments in town? Ohio State with their little pot leaf stickers, receiving "benefits" from boosters/alumni/business owners of establishments in town? Wake the hell up and stop being so naive. College football IS big business in every sense of the word. You know how much money these teams rake in for their school?
All you pussy ass whiners talking about how wrong it is for the "hit club" or "pay for play" - the hell world are you living in? You even know what big time NCAA football life is like? OH, so you're telling me that no one from any other school receives the "$100 handshakes" from boosters or alumni, right? You're telling me that players don't get cushy ass jobs & grossly overpaid to do them, right? Rhett Bomar anyone? You're telling me that players don't get "discounts" at businesses, right?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Extremely sad & pathetic that they talk as if they're proud of that "dynasty". The whole operation was built on corruption. And they talk about their "struggles" as an NCAA athlete like every college athlete in the country wasn't dealing with the same issues. What a crock of ####.
Not really, S. Florida urban communties in the 80's was very blighted, so some (most not all) did have it worst, and if the $ came from luke who cares he is not from the school. I mean if my friend gave $50 i don't see anything wrong with that.
Watch the documentary. Every time Michael Irvin was speaking they had Miami 1984-1987 underneath his name. IRvin graduated High School in 1985. His 1st year as a Cane was the 1985 season, HOw do you get that one wrong????
you are right j 85 the micheal irvins the alonzo highsmiths, the blades brothers , the alredo roberts, and many more probaly wouldhave never been heard of if it wasnt for U of M taking them end. yes sports is a way out for some of these guys and some of them are doing pretty well right now in their lives. even if they had to go thougth a few things to get their fine they and their families made it out of a condition that they no longer wnated to be in.
they should pay the players a stipend during the actual football season and cutthat in half in the offseason due to just participating in winbterconditioning and spring drill . at least by doing this they wold not have to hurt for money and there would not be a many issue amoong the players. thecoachestheredid target the innercityyouth because they were just plain talentedand they actually gottheir degreesat least most of them than people think.inhindsight Im glad they got that opportunity
I agree if it wasn't for Coach Schnellenberger lets be real some of these kids would end up falling through the cracks and become a stat. Sports for some kids that come from neighborhoods where there is crime, poverty, and hopelessness is the way out and they knew that they had to get out one way or the other and they decided to use football as a means to an end.
Doesn't surprise me that a classless fuck like Luke financed a classless team of jerkasses. At least Butch Davis changed the attitude of "The U" when he coached there.
So their classless because they accepted money?do you even know how much money these athletes make these for Universities...yet they can't take a dime?get out of here with that nonsense!!!
It is hypocritical of the NCAA to tell these athletes that you can't take money from "A Friend Of The Program" while we on the other hand get to eat off of the plate you are bringing us yr. in and yr. out. I mean $30/wk. for weekend meals? You gotta be serious. I say pay the players a stipend or something because they can't work due to their rigorous schedule. The NCAA should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting these athletes for profit.
I agree.the reason these lower city kids get in trouble with the law is because their broke and they do whatever they need to do to make a buck to feed their families.and the NCAA has the nerve to tell them they can't take money and gifts for playing hard...when they make millions for the sport?it's bullshit!
and those stupid haters call that classless?fuck them!
Yea Butch changed their image and they sucked ass, it wasn't until after they were allowed to be"The U" again that they began to dominate college football.
I never said I was a fan so takje your assumptions and shove them up your ass. That was a sarcastic remark to someone saying Miami is the greatest. But just to play devil's advocate, the 85 Bears couldn't beat the 85 Dolphins and played 10 games against teams that finished at .500 or worse.
Wonder if "Uncle" Luke told Dr.Dre. You no Dr.Dre is Luke's consultant and adviser..

@cmbuvi92 your first assertion made me giggle college scholarships for education!!! How many black athletic scholarships actually graduate. Its first and foremost a huge muli-media corporate operation with black men predominately, has cannon fodder for the hungry machine.
SMoldie 1 year ago

I am not proud of some of them, but it is out for all to see.
yourserve16 1 year ago
@yourserve16 I'm a Cane fan buddy and this is America. FYI: the Gators never "almost received the death penalty"???? are you serious. It was the early to mid 1980's and Florida was on probation. Spurrier came in in 1990 and the program has been one of the best in the Nation ever since.

yourserve16 1 year ago
@knightguy11 Yes serious. Per the NYT "It was the second time in six years the N.C.A.A. imposed sanctions on the Gators, who had faced the possibility of a two-year death penalty, which would mean suspension of the programs, for repeat violations." The date was sept 1990, a mere 5 yrs before Miami's pell Grant. Your original question was how can Miami fans be proud of that movie. My response was we take the good with the bad, unlike your Gators.
yourserve16 1 year ago
apparently Florida had a slush fund to pay players and spy on opponents.....
yourserve16 1 year ago
@yourserve16 Sorry buddy, but in 1984 the NCAA charged the Gators with many infractions. Just like USC today(2010) that is getting sactions for the 2002-2004 teams. The Gators of 1990 were super clean. I think I know a bit more about UF than you ever dreamed of. I love Miami and have been a fan for 30 years. Go Gators and Go Canes.
knightguy11 1 year ago
@knightguy11 did you read the paper? IT WAS DATED SEPT 1990....not 1984...they were on probation from 1984 and more infractions occurred under galen hall....here is another quote to help you out "Florida football coach [Steve Spurrier] is bombarded with questions after the NCAA puts the Gators on probation. ASSOCIATED PRESS BOX: UF's probation The football team will not be eligible to participate in any postseason competition following the 1990 season." from orlando sent 1990...pay for play
yourserve16 1 year ago
@yourserve16 in aug 1990 the ncaa held a hearing with UF in colorado to determine in UF lost institutional control....NCAA dropped the charge of institutional control but imposed other sanctions.....
yourserve16 1 year ago
@yourserve16 knock yourself out buddy....that was 20 years ago. I'm not concerned with that today. Florida has been the best of programs for a long, long time. I'm very proud of all UF's accompishments. Have a great day.
knightguy11 1 year ago
@knightguy11 how can you be proud of the arrests? Have a great day.
yourserve16 1 year ago
@yourserve16 Why would I be proud of any arrest?? It's always a shame when a young person makes bad choices. Every.....and I mean....every College football program has kids who make bad choices. I played Div 1 football, so I know a thing or two about that. YOu..have a great day.
knightguy11 1 year ago
@knightguy11 I see....so it is ok to be proud of the gators and their accomplishments even with their current arrest streak... but you can't understand how cane fans can be proud of the era that was covered by the film? the film portrayed the hurricanes as they were and shed some light on the problems they had to traverse...I am not proud of the issues portrayed on that film, but I am proud at what the school and those players accomplished....have a great day
yourserve16 1 year ago 2
@yourserve16 I"m proud of all those accomplishments also. I have said that numerous times. I just think the documentary was not a positive one. That is my opinion. Many Cane fans agree with me. I have lots a UM fans for friends. UM is a great school and has great football history. You should be proud of that.

Please spare me the "Miami players had it worst of all" to try to rationalize them getting extra benefits and "stealing to eat". The vast majority of college football players across the country are African-Americans from low income families and struggling communities. Miami's players had it no worse than any other kid in Division 1-A.
BBF83 2 years ago
@BBF83 why dont u stop tryna minimize the postion whites have put minorities in over the years. Im not a black mothafucka lookin 4 handouts or none of that shit but i do realize that at one point yall did allow us in your schools, wouldnt give us jobs and only in 70's and 80's (hence THE U) started givin blacks scholarships. why dont u stop tyrna be a hard ass. Especially at that time, young black players couldnt call mommy and ask for $100 like yall. times have changed and NOW there is no excus
tp9337 2 years ago
Did you even read my comment? I'm not saying black college football players from low income backgrounds weren't put in a difficult position...I'm saying the Miami players that acted like they were the ONLY players in the country that had it rough and that gave them a license to do whatever they wanted is BS. The Canes were no worse off than any other player in college football.
BBF83 2 years ago
every big time school slides stuff under the table to their talented recruits. it's just that it's easy to call attention to miami cause they have a history of being loud on the field.

@dogfartt no offence but but collage football was interesting before miami mediocre rise and after there fall from the spot light
misfits4life1 1 year ago
@dogfartt I enjoy seeing miami being a powerhouse in college football, but too bad they haven't been lately. It seems like the most staple of teams in college football all started sucking. Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, Nebraska, and Miami. Oh well, college football is the best sport there is and it continues to thrive even in times like this. btw, I'm not a miami fan but I do enjoy it when traditional powerhouses continue to be powerhouses.

And no, Corben doesn't need to fire his lighting guy - that's how he wanted to shoot it, the style of it. Hell, Corben probably was his own lighting guy - he's the one that is setting up the shots on his storyboard and looking at them
CaneTenacity 2 years ago 7
The Pell Grant Fraud was about as bad as it got - when you go to a school as expensive as Miami, I can see how it happens. Abusing long distance cards, steroids, etc. isn't exactly as bad as gun running & coke dealing by Oklahoma under Switzer or the woman abusing/raping that was going on under Osborne at Nebraska. You don't think steroids were prevalent in any other big time program in America? Haha, damn, whoever thinks that needs a huge slap of reality & common sense, right upside their head
CaneTenacity 2 years ago 2
You're telling me that in addition to those stupid tomahawks that FSU players get for making good plays, they also don't get "benefits" from boosters/alumni/business owners of establishments in town? Ohio State with their little pot leaf stickers, receiving "benefits" from boosters/alumni/business owners of establishments in town? Wake the hell up and stop being so naive. College football IS big business in every sense of the word. You know how much money these teams rake in for their school?
CaneTenacity 2 years ago
All you pussy ass whiners talking about how wrong it is for the "hit club" or "pay for play" - the hell world are you living in? You even know what big time NCAA football life is like? OH, so you're telling me that no one from any other school receives the "$100 handshakes" from boosters or alumni, right? You're telling me that players don't get cushy ass jobs & grossly overpaid to do them, right? Rhett Bomar anyone? You're telling me that players don't get "discounts" at businesses, right?
CaneTenacity 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Extremely sad & pathetic that they talk as if they're proud of that "dynasty". The whole operation was built on corruption. And they talk about their "struggles" as an NCAA athlete like every college athlete in the country wasn't dealing with the same issues. What a crock of ####.
BBF83 2 years ago
@BBF83
oh quit your whining
stop being mad that your team isn't as great as The U
drumachine18 2 years ago
It wasn't built on corruption -- it was built on athletes better than those on your team.

Not really, S. Florida urban communties in the 80's was very blighted, so some (most not all) did have it worst, and if the $ came from luke who cares he is not from the school. I mean if my friend gave $50 i don't see anything wrong with that.

you are right j 85 the micheal irvins the alonzo highsmiths, the blades brothers , the alredo roberts, and many more probaly wouldhave never been heard of if it wasnt for U of M taking them end. yes sports is a way out for some of these guys and some of them are doing pretty well right now in their lives. even if they had to go thougth a few things to get their fine they and their families made it out of a condition that they no longer wnated to be in.

they should pay the players a stipend during the actual football season and cutthat in half in the offseason due to just participating in winbterconditioning and spring drill . at least by doing this they wold not have to hurt for money and there would not be a many issue amoong the players. thecoachestheredid target the innercityyouth because they were just plain talentedand they actually gottheir degreesat least most of them than people think.inhindsight Im glad they got that opportunity
fraz72 2 years ago 2
I agree if it wasn't for Coach Schnellenberger lets be real some of these kids would end up falling through the cracks and become a stat. Sports for some kids that come from neighborhoods where there is crime, poverty, and hopelessness is the way out and they knew that they had to get out one way or the other and they decided to use football as a means to an end.
j85 2 years ago
The kids know this. Thats why they are so dedicated to The U years later.
Cappadonna72 2 years ago

Doesn't surprise me that a classless fuck like Luke financed a classless team of jerkasses. At least Butch Davis changed the attitude of "The U" when he coached there.
pelorojo7 2 years ago
So their classless because they accepted money?do you even know how much money these athletes make these for Universities...yet they can't take a dime?get out of here with that nonsense!!!
m2diggs 2 years ago
It is hypocritical of the NCAA to tell these athletes that you can't take money from "A Friend Of The Program" while we on the other hand get to eat off of the plate you are bringing us yr. in and yr. out. I mean $30/wk. for weekend meals? You gotta be serious. I say pay the players a stipend or something because they can't work due to their rigorous schedule. The NCAA should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting these athletes for profit.
j85 2 years ago
I agree.the reason these lower city kids get in trouble with the law is because their broke and they do whatever they need to do to make a buck to feed their families.and the NCAA has the nerve to tell them they can't take money and gifts for playing hard...when they make millions for the sport?it's bullshit!
and those stupid haters call that classless?fuck them!

Yea Butch changed their image and they sucked ass, it wasn't until after they were allowed to be"The U" again that they began to dominate college football.
