I really hated the Watchmen comic so much (especially the sanctimonious and unfair insults regarding Vietnam, the Nixon administration, the CIA, Katherine "Kitty" Genovese, etc) that I held little hope for the movie. But I have to admit, the movie itself was quite good - largely because so much of Moore's spiteful antics were cut out.
I agree with the reviewers. Snyder made a Watchmen film that's much more coherent, more entertaining and far less preposterous and stupid than the original.
this movie was ok i mean i loved the visuals but at the first i was just thinking this is going to be a great movie and after that it got awkward in a lot of parts in the movie like the constant sex and i liked the songs in the soundtrack but they did not fit with the movie and i couldnt stand all the blue penis and some actors just werent really that great
have to agree with matt and nat on almost everything... however, to me, Malin Akerman does not quite convince me as Silk Spectre. there is something about her acting that feels toned down, they turned this bitchy, complex character, who hated the comedian with all her heart, and turned her into someone Doc. Manhattan is in love with for a brief period of time, gets dumped and runs into dreiberg's arms.
Matt, Nat, you guys did great. Watchmen is a tough one to score, because the source material is just. . .well, the Watchmen. But this is a very fair review: some things good, some things not so good, but an incredible trip overall. In the end, the movie is more about the experience than anything else, in my opinion.
I do believe they did the right thing with the ending. Film and print are two entirely different media, and adapting one into the other has to come with certain changes.
Also I am constantly confounded by the disservice women do to themselves by chiming in alongside their homophobic male body hating men in derision of man-member on screen. My wife always complains about movies being made for men with tits and ass everywhere with hardly a man-cheek for her. Needless to say she loved this movie, not despite Manhattan nudism, but in addition of it. Men see themselves naked all the time, I really don't get the puritanical childishness.
Let's see where to start, first can't agree the movie is an improvement, each excels in it's own medium, but cross comparison is silly.
I liked the sex scene, it was a nice lighthearted up moment in an otherwise dark and somber movie, though I would have preferred they had a more sensuous one after the bombs went off in Veidt's reflecting room like in the GN, that was always a beautiful moment of bittersweet humanity to me, so much so I did a large painting in homage to it.
These two are such major tools, they are obviously connected with some studios. There are such fatal errors that were made in this film that these two don't even bring up or discuss at all.
Ok, cool, well these are my problems. 1. These are supposed to be normal people who are masked vigilantes, not superheroes! Only Manhattan has super powers, but why the hell are the others jumping around matrix style, punching through walls in slow-mo. It goes against the whole point of the comic. Snyder's style doesn't suit the material. If you had Aronofsky or David Fincher, they would make it gritty and realism which would make it so much better.
2. They ruined Ozymandias, this wrecks the whole movie. Why is he this scrawny little boy who looks and acts like a cliche Bond villian in a batman & robin suit?! Ozzy is supposed to be this shining beacon of light and the epitomy of manliness. A perfect specimen. Your supposed to look up to him and admire him, plus he's supposed to have a bright costume, shining bright gold and purple! That is the whole point!
i have some issues with the watchmen i mean it was 90% flashbacks .... they might as well shown it in order cos by the time we know everything there is like 20 ins of film left .... nah i mean it wasnt terrible it had some good moments i'll probly buy the dvd but thats about all the praise i can give ( that sex scene was HA-larious) xx

They put that song in the sex scene because in the graphic novel it's dan finally going back into manhood so they had to show that in the movie

Calling Doc Manhattan's wang porn is kinda immature of them. It was pretty tastefully done to be honest. It's just as much art as it was in teh book.

We're 100% independent, but thanks for the compliment. What did you dislike about the film?
No offense, Horrid, but we always find these comments are best for discussion rather than conclusion jumping.
Let us know what you thought of the movie :)

Agree on the sex scene -- it was gratuitous.
