That was, kinda strnge...but I see what they were doing. using all the disaster cliches, and making you think it's all about the asteroid coming to aspload the office. But, it's the loss of data and the computer monitor falling and smashing that's the distaster that the captions talk about.

Meh, it's not the most obvious comedy/pisstake, but it works for people who see the funny side of it.

I understand what you're saying, but it's a new product. I cannot send this to a customer that is thinking about Lotus Foundations and say "Hey, check out this video". They would call me back and ask me what I was smoking. Do these types of things with established products, and make fun of known idiosyncrasies. Don't do this when you're trying to introduce people to a new brand, or trying to get them to see the advantages of this product over Microsoft SBS.

Yeah, you're right. To be frank with you, I wasn't sure what they were actually advertising. From what you're saying, it's an SBS developed by IBM. (16 year-old - not very sure/knowledgeable about this yet). I assume they were using microsoft SBS, and that's how the data was gone?

But anyway, I've seen quite a few IBM ads. This, in comparison, is quite a disappointment; it's a bit too obscure. And it's not in the usual IBM style (The Blue tinge and the humourous music). They need a better Ad.

reason IBM would put out such a video is to get noticed by an increasingly fragmented audience. comedy sells more than anything (why do you think there's so much enthusiasm for the annual superbowl ads?!) - and IBM is absolutely spot on to take this approach to marketing. the message isn't even that important - except that big blue has a sense of humor (unlike some of the posts below).
