ya know, when i turned 16, my parents took out a loan and bought me a 2002 chevy s10. 4cyl 5 speed. only 62k miles on it. now here i am today 24 years old. and she just turned 228 thousand miles about a week ago. talk about memories, that truck has driven me all over the country. NEVER broke down. i was told to trade it in on CFC program. i looked em all in the eyes and told them id die before getting rid of that truck.

The oldest cars on the road are gas sipping Civics are Camrys from the late 80's/early 90's. You see them everywhere. When you hear of a car going over 300/400k miles it's never a Grand Cherokee or a Sierra. Big engine trucks just eat twice the gas and do nothing more than what a reasonable V6 could do far more efficiently.
Another big wasteful V8 off the road. Keep it coming, maybe we'll still have affordable gas in 10 years if we can trash all these massive trucks and SUVs that are only used to carry kids to the grocery store.

The oldest cars on the road are gas sipping Civics are Camrys from the late 80's/early 90's. You see them everywhere. When you hear of a car going over 300/400k miles it's never a Grand Cherokee or a Sierra. Big engine trucks just eat twice the gas and do nothing more than what a reasonable V6 could do far more efficiently.

pretty damn pathetic, my grandpa got a 91 chevy 1500 v6, 450,000 miles last i looked, and that thing is still kicking butt, 24miles per gallon, a tranny repair once witch was rebuilt (mind you that u cant really rebuild a tranny in them newer cars), that thing is still going strong, now the chevy HHR, i would be afraid if i hit a bug and the freaking bumper might fall off, Plastic POS shit cars we get for the Cash For Clunkers is just not worth it, dents or not, i would love that truck!

Why did people trade their cars in for C4C? Are they sheep? Politicians have always been making bad decisions but they weren't necessarily forcing people to trade in their older vehicles. Too many good cars died, it's the Government's fault as well as the idiots who traded in their perfectly good rides. I doubt you'd pay 6K for a rust-bucket with over 300K miles! That's a $1000 truck, max because you'd have to put $3-4K into it to fix up the problems. So you'd pay $6K and spend $4K to fix it and own it for $10K? Think about that for a bit...

@sketchyinc Well I think the program is about 2 things. 1. gas millages, new car, better gas millages. 2. to get som cash flow, if you get a new car, there will be jobs. It worked here fore 20 years ago, but the full effekt of the program, was first 5 years after it was launced.

I guess that I just get emotionally attached to things like machines and would rather spend money on preventative maintenance, current maintenance, on my vehicle that was already paid off long ago. My 1994 BMW 325i has been very reliable and not to bad on gass. The way I drive about 24 MPG City and close to 30 Highway sometimes under good conditions. I would rather throw money into something that I already own because I am keepin it.
