Their are 2 kinds of "Windows Defender's" The real WINDOWS Defender, by Microsoft, that was given to Windows 7 users, and the fake one, which I have no idea how to obtain. The fake one contains a virus, that will screw up your computer. If you have Windows 7, you'll receive the real copy, with your Windows 7 computer. If you don't have Windows 7, and you don't remember ever getting this product, you should most likely get rid of it. I recommend it.

@rice00bowl there are free antivirus programs available (avast.com) - you dont have to pay, you might be receiving a less complete antivirus product, though

@adth446 YES IT IS! Don't download that crap. It's all bs. I got that last night and yes it fucked up my laptop with 76 infections. I got rid of it this morning but I know it's stilled installed b/c when you research on google how to uninstall it, it won't show a single page for it! Lucky I don't use personal info on the laptop! These are smart hackers, be careful!

No. I was browseing the internet and It poped up with windows defender, And replaced my avast which is the only thing I trust.. I tryed removeing it but it deleted the uninstall button and started with these fake virus messages but my avast pro which I bought never found but like one or two things, Then it found that windows defender was a virus. I guess the one I had was a virus, yours not so much :P

my laptop is screwed, i log on my profile and the little x shows up in the bottom right bar, then all my desktop icons dissapear and when i try opening anything a litle thing pops up saying "something is trying to send your textlog to steal your credit card" so i cant even open control panel to uninstall it or open my anti virus stuff :/ HELP!!!!
