  • THE FIRST UNDEFEATED MAN IN THE HISTORY OF THIS SPORT HAS WON THE WORLD TITLE!

  • Wasn't David Arquette another "undefeated man" to win the world championship? wcw = retards

  • @playadominical no he was the first to win it

  • Comment removed

  • WCW was the shitttt.

  • Wcw wasnt in it for the money. They wanted the fans to see an awesome match for free. They gave us what we wanted. I remember watching this and we were going nuts about it. If anything they gained more fans.by making it free than making millions from ppl who could afford ppv. Remember not everyone can get it.so they had those ppl in mind

  • Many claim this is one reason WCW failed: I beg to differ. It was to get fans to tune in. Listen to the crowd. Every wrestling fan remembers this moment. I do not remember PPV's outside of Starrcade and WrestleMania. But I and many others remember this. I say it was a success. Nitro was notorious for putting on the great shows thru 98 and this is the apex.

  • @dukesjude I agree. This was a thank you to the fans. I'm so sick of main events on Raw always being interference and you have to pay to see a real main event match. Its bullshit. WCW gave the fans what they wanted to see on monday nights, that's why they were the top dog.

  • 0:39 goldberg was a GOD.....intense

  • Ironically 2 athletes hit their peak at age 31: Bill Goldberg when he won the WCW title and also Phil Heath when he won the Mr Olympia this year. Also at age 31 was when former Mr Olympia Lee Haney retired from active bodybuilding.

  • in my opinion this combined the two greatest angles the wcw ever had...the nwo and goldberg. the pop when he won is great, this era was great, but the garbage and crap being thrown into the ring is typical wcw, and why the wwf was always my favorite of the two. you would never see a ring full of garbage in a wwf title match

  • @benjamm1nn What?! The garbage was awesome. Who doesn't love a good TP rolling?

  • one of the best moments of WCW nitro for me. intense.

  • BEST WWF/WWE/WCW MOMENT

  • Can you imagine the adrenaline rush going through him? I would KILL for that kind of feeling.

  • As great as this moment was, it's a prime example of why WCW failed:

They put this huge, marque match free on TV instead of making millions on it with a PPV main event.

  • I feel horrible that I did not watch this the night it happened, no matter how much I love WWF.... WWE, whatever the fuck you wanna call it now.

  • How the hell did this turn into the crap we watch now?

  • How in the hell was this ever allowed to happen? Hogan NWO or not was a icon.

  • It was a huge moment, but a shame that the guy never learned how to wrestle. His reign was shorter than Tyson's!

  • @rpetrino440

nah he actually had great cat like moves. his character was just such a brute.

  • My birthday is July 7th and for my present we all went to this show. I was 10 years old and had no idea what I was in store for. To this day (I have been to many concerts since then) this was the loudest thing I have ever heard. My step brother was very young and actually fell asleep, when he won, he woke up crying and scared because of the loudness of the fans. I am very grateful that I was able to attend this event and I will never forget it! Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Goldberg is DA MAN!

  • If you watch this this match on netflix (WWE: The very best of WCW Monday Nitro) they used Goldberg's WWE theme instead of his WCW theme.

  • this shouldn't been a pay per view instead of showing for free on monday nitro.a loss of almost a million dollars of revenue on wcw part, big mistake

  • I was 8 years old when this happened and I still get goosebumps.

  • lol, why does it zoom into his crotch?

  • Hopefully Wrestling will be this good again in a few or more years and another great era will come but sadly we will have to wait awhile

  • THIS was as even GREATER than Ric Flair's 1st World Title in 1981.

Flair was a veteran of many yrs when he won The Title in '81.

Goldberg did it in LESS than a yr, and UNDEFEATED ! (176 - 0)

This feat will NEVER be duplicated in Pro Wrestling ever again. I'm happy to have witnessed this.

Goldberg put himself in the CLASS with the '73 Miami Dolphins (17-0) and UCLA Bruins (88 straight wins in college B-ball).

  • how many wins that he had at that time , anyone knows ??

  • NOW THATS ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

  • "Your career's on the line here, do it, do it!" Greatest commentary!

  • three of the best shows were on each week wwf ecw and wcw, and i missed them all :(

  • To think this happened 13 years ago today. Man...times sure have changed...

  • Alright folks, I've been watching pro-wrestling since 1998(the year of this match coincidently). I think that the pop Goldberg got after pinning Hogan was, possibly, THE GREATEST POP IN PRO-WRESTLING HISTORY!!!!! What do you think??

  • wcw had amazing crowds

  • Oh hell yeah!!!! ONE, TWO, THREE!!!!!! THIS IS WHAT TNT MONDAY NITRO WAS ALL ABOUT!!!!

  • AND LISTEN TO THAT CROWD!!!!!

  • worst job ever.... pushing goldberg was one of the biggest mistakes in wcw history... They should have had Hogan win and take goldberg out of the picture, his character was fake and over hyped...

  • You rarely see the crowd so loud and active. Awesome.

  • now this is what you can entertainment, now like these days

  • @Billy49324 It's my favorite one.

  • I still get a bitter taste in my mouth thinking how wcw somehow killed themselves. I mean, goodness it was just better with two. and with all respects to tna, it just ain't the sme.

  • @Billy49324 it was wednesday that week.

  • This is when you couldn't sit down and watch wrestling at the same time. You were always on your feet.

  • The best moment in history of Monday Nitro

  • Man I remember watching this nitro and I was jumping for joy for three reasons one Hogan Lost, two Hogan lost and three my one of my best friends loves hogan and the next day at school was so much fun when I told him that Hogan lost the title.

  • i think it would be bad fucking ass if 360 or ps3 completely remade 1998s wcw/nwo revenge the exact same way but better graphics of course and maybe more kinds of matches.

  • hahaha this is like over 10 yrs old, and when that 3 count hits n the bell rings, I STILL CHEER!!! THAT WAS AN AWSOME NIGHT!!

  • wcw was the best! i miss it so much :(

  • Loudest crowd I ever heard at a wrestling event

  • Where is goldberg

  • NO ONE kicks out of the Jackhammer.

  • damn what a crowd

  • FUCK HULKSTER...thanks to him WCW isnt around no more....

this moments is accually history!!..first time ever a real WCW wrestler wins the title.

    fuck that shit

  • the greatest moment in wcw history!

  • I was a WWF guy then. So anything that happened in WCW during this time, including this match, was boring boring boring for me.

  • @DrewBludd If you think this is boring, you need psychological help.

  • @bull864 Well, I'll meet you half way. I can see that the crowd reaction and participation is amazing and that Goldberg was a rising star. But meet me half way. I wasn't emotionally invested in this match, wasn't following this storyline, didn't know much about Goldberg besides he suspiciously looked a lot like the main guy on the WWF wrestling I watched, didn't understand why they'd give this match away for free on TV and not save it for a PPV, etc. Anything can be boring out of context.

  • Comment removed

  • now thats a crowd

  • Heenan's commentary makes this all the more epic.

Goldberg was a childhood hero of mine.

  • I hate Bill Goldberg with every last breath I take. However, this put him over, and created the biggest moment in WCW history, because of one man.....Hogan. Hogan was able to draw that much heat.

  • ah yes , when world titles used to mean something :(

now it's the miz and jack swagger ... somebody shoot me or bring the DAMN monday night wars back

  • its not about an era its all about being emotionally invested with the wrestlers if they dnt feel anything about the wrestler then they dont mean shit!

  • Man I never heard a crowd that pumped up in my life

  • @mike515089 couldn't agree anymore. the new wrestling sucks!

  • Man, that is some great stuff. If you can't get into this start watching another sport.

  • Botchberg winning the title on free tv was the stupidest thing WCW ever did, the piped in chants, such a flash in the pan champ like Ultimate Warrior and Brock Lesnar. The Sheeples champ. Boo this man

  • @Aguzman0077 u know titles changing hands on free tv in wrestling used to happen all the time it wasn;t until some wise guy got the idea hey we can make more money if we only do it on the pay per views made the wrestling boring for the rest of us who aren;t willing or can't afford to shell out 40 bucks for a 3 hour wrestling even

  • @cypresshillfan420 firstrow. net, you are welcome

  • @Aguzman0077 Did they pipe in the crowd reaction too??

  • @bull864 I'm sure the garbage was digitally added in. ANYBODY who would have pinned the biggest heel in the late nineties would have got the same reaction, especially in that state

  • @Aguzman0077 Not that reaction. Goldberg played for UGA and for the Falcons. He was the hometown hero, and NOBODY would have gotten that kind of reaction in the Georgia Dome.

  • @bull864 you just made my point, but you honestly believe that Sting, Luger or Flair would not have gotten that same reaction? They were all Georgia based, WCW lifers, so don't sell me the glory of the most overrated WCW Chump ever.

  • @Aguzman0077 Not at the Georgia Dome. Flair may have gotten that kind of reaction in Charlotte, but not Atlanta. Sting or Luger would have gotten a great reaction, but not like that. It's the biggest pop in the history of wrestling! Goldberg got it man! You have to give him his due, even if you don't like him.

  • @bull864 Flash in the pan, overrated, sloppy wrestler, Stone Cold ripoff, Goldberg was the Vanilla Ice of Wrestling

  • @bull864 How the fuck would he know? Did he work for WCW?

  • @RMilvae He doesn't know. He hates Goldberg so he's calling this a conspiracy I guess.

  • @bull864 Yup.

  • This match NEVER gets old does it? :) The crowd was on the edge of their seats, when Goldberg picked Hogan up the place erupts. Vince THIS is how you do a match.

  • BTW, did it go tits up after this for WCW or what? Good lord.

  • These kids today with their "sports-entertainment", they don't know what they missed.

    Those were the days.

  • @ants84 It's not there fault. It's Vince's

  • i remember watching this. i was 7 years old. and this was the first time a match of this popularity or magnitude was on free tv... which was a big flop in itself because wcw lost out on so much money... this would have been up there with wrestle mania 3. i remember this shit was hyped and so many people were into it. i damn near shit my pants. i remember jumping out of bed screaming and yelling because i was so happy. my parents were so pissed hah. im a huge MMA fan now. wrestling is dead now =(

  • It's unreal how much the crowd was into this!! God I miss these days!!

  • The WWE could NEVER generate this kind of crowd reaction, not even with The Rock and Stone Cold. This was INTENSE!

  • @NdotDiggity Maybe true, but Turner destroyed the company to get moments like this (though of course, the whole David Arquette thing didn't help!)

  • @WWEfanAndrew Goldberg is the worlds first undefeated world champion, The Big Show debuted in WWE in 1999 when he won the WWE title in his first match, this is in 1998, the Big Show is the second undefeated champion, but it's just not as impressive as Goldberg's undefeated title win even if the Big Show won it in his first match coz Goldberg went 173-0 before his first defeat, the Big Show went nothing near that.

  • WCW really should have made this match on PPV instead of free on TV but Bischoff is way too concernced beating Vince in the rating games to care, which bit them in the ass

  • WCW logic: Goldberg loses to Nash at Starrcade and then Goldberg never wins the title again.

  • God I miss this time in Wrestling. Him and Stone Cold running wild in WWE, those were the days

  • shit i remember this days goldberg vs the nwo

  • Goldberg did some things that The Rock, Stone Cold, Ric Flair, HHH, John Cena, Randy Orton (even The Miz) altogether will never achive

Longest Undefeated Streak in Pro Wrestling History

1st Undefeated Man In Pro Wrestling to Win a World Heavyweight Title

Held Both U.S. and Wold Title at Same Time (Undefeated)

I dare anyone watching this video to say that wrestling is fake!!

  • @shinlilong ... Wrestling is fake. Wonderful, but fake.

  • @shinlilong

It wasn't the longest. Hell even Tatanka went like 2 years undefeated.

And yes it's fake. It's not real competition.

  • @AmericanNohbuddy I don't think he wrestled as many matches as goldberg though. Goldberg has the longest streak for 173 wins to 0.

  • @wirelessjt

Because goldberg was booked in that many matches.

  • @AmericanNohbuddy yea i didn't say how he got it he just got it. Anyway i think he was just talking about wcw history he has the longest streak when he won the world title.

  • This Nitro alone raped every single Raw in existance when it came to crowd reaction and attendance... plus every single WWF PPV in 1998 when it came to attendance and ratings... total rape.

  • Don't get me wrong Goldberg is my favorite wrestler ever, but Umm Heenan's an idiot. He said Goldberg was the 1st person to ever win the World title undefeated. Umm The Giant aka Paul Wight aka Big Show won the World title in his very 1st match. So umm duh he was undefeated at 1-0 win he won the World title!

  • @WWEfanAndrew Its a small difference. Winning in your first match is different that winning after a hundred matches or so.

  • awesome

  • i bet hogan was racked with jealousy as the crowd was chanting "Goldberg, Goldberg"

  • This is classic wrestling.

  • wow!! I love this. one of wrestling's best moments in my opinion. i want this era back. does anyone agree??

  • @Michiganboy248 oh i miss this era...even tho i couldnt stand NWO it was always nice to see them get their asses handed to them by sting or goldberg !!!!!

  • Okay...this pissed me off. Check out this "official" video of this match straight from WWE.

    /watch?v=VJpfq-3VnrY&feature=fvw

It's the same match EXCEPT...they replaced his original much more epic theme at the end with his crappier WWE remixed version. Just another way that Vinny is revising the history of the Monday Night Wars.

  • @TriLink12 When you win the war you can re-write history. Countries do it all the time why not VKM and wrestling.

  • Goldberg isnt a wrestler he's a MONSTER!

  • biggest crowd roar ive ever heard in wrestling

  • ha my god what does that have to do with anything plus i bet u cant prove that u bitch it was defintley the other way around

  • Goldberg was the ONLY next genration wrestler WCW pushed forward. Had they put the gold on guys like Chris Jericho WCW would still be here

  • @Patrickdraven dude jericho has always sucked thats why they never gave him the belt more often

  • @Mruhl316 You do know Jericho kicked Goldbergs ass in the locker room

  • Loudest pop I've ever seen/heard.

  • as good as this was for cable TV, the decision reflected the incompetency of this company at the time. the fact that this company belonged to WWE less than three years later is not unrelated to the choice to keep this match off of pay-per-view. they really missed out on tons of buys.

  • @djtik85 They needed a jolt on Cable TV, and this was just great for tv...sorry.

  • @grillaaaarv - I know it, man. Yeah, I totally agree with you. Today's matches lack the passion and intensity that was in the 90's. You never see crowds react like this anymore.

  • Just watch the reaction......it tells the whole story.

  • what a pop, the crowd was alawys so pumped back then.. i cant remember the last time i was even remotely excited about wrestling

  • saw this with my uncle, any time i watch this i think of him and how i was nearly in tears with that 3 count!!!! GOLDBERG...GOLDBERG

  • @MrGUERO1984 I don't think anyone remembers watching raw that night. This match and moment is what people remembers most.

  • @johnnycitystar Agreed. If I remeber correctly, it was being leaked on WWE what was about to happen and EVERYBODY turned to Nitro, so it came back to bite WWE or at the time WWFin the ass.

  • @jonesboys65 You got that backwards it was WCW that would leak what happened on pre-taped WW"F" shows and it was about Mankind's first title win. Remember all of those "Hey Tenay, Mick put my butt in this seat" signs in early 1999?

  • @cstring420 Yeah, yeah, I forgot it was the other way around. Tenay and Tony were making fun of Mick or Cactus Jack as they said and it bit them in the ass. WCW went to alot of lows and still lost the Monaday Night Wars.

  • Saw this live on tv when I was 8

  • Too bad WCW didn't put this on PPV. They would have made shitloads of money out of such a match. But I don't want to nitpick, that was a moment for the ages. Too bad WCW didn't proceed to make something good with Goldberg in the years to come. That includes WWE, too.

  • @CarlOlskamp You know I think it was actually a good PR move to make this free tv (well cable anyways) rather than PPV. More people got to see it than would have if it was only on PPV. I loved this moment then and I do every time I watch it :-)

  • "The first undefeated man to win a world championship in this sport"? Undertaker did it years before

  • this was my favorite nitro ever. a classic. and the brain is the best commentator ever.

  • Always remember this and when he beat Raven on the stop sign. Used to be Nitro 9-11 on TNT and Raw 11-1am on Sky Sports on a Friday night here in UK. Was on my mind from about 1pm on a Friday afternoon when at school. Miss those days .

  • one of the biggest pops ever for a title win

  • bobby hennan sounds like he is about to catch a heart attack.. lolz... but i remember this night, it was fucking crazy...

  • Might be the largest crowd pop I've ever seen/heard.

  • One of the GREATEST moments in pro wrestling history! I mean listen to that crowd! This was the era in wrestling where the fans could actually get into a match! Gives me goosebumps every time I watch this! Unbelievable! I want this era back!

  • @tej41694 I was at this show. It was INSANEEEEEEEEEE. One of the craziest I've ever attended.

  • @mheman1980

holy crap, you got to go to this show?? seriously? Georgia Dome had over 40,000+... man.. your fkn lucky... I bet the intensity and electricity that u felt from that match alone was unforgettable. This main event was better then some of the wrestlemania main events from recent years... absolutely insane.

  • @tej41694 yes exactly love the crowd. thats exactly how i feel about the old days in wrestling. ohhhhh the memories!!!!! my kids love wrestling so they watch the episodes now which is all good ..its like they are as into it as i was but man the old days were the best!!!!! i wont watch the new stuff tho like my kids will.

  • "The titanic sank when it hit Goldberg" LOL!!!

  • Beat Two Superstars In One Night!

  • First time I EVER switched the channel from Monday Night Raw to watch this moment.....Pretty great match.

  • Watch the crowd go NUTS..Cant even watch wrestling anymore cause its all the EXACT same..The good guy comes out shakes every1's hand on the way to the ring throws out t shirts or hats smiles and waves..The badguy walks to the ring slowly, comes out in 3 piece suit, insults the fans saying their stupid and fat and always no matter what has to cheat to win a title. But dont worry cause John Cena will win it back at the next pay per view.See wwe should give me a job as a writer

  • Biggest pop in WCW History!

  • i was 11 years old when this was on in england on a friday night back in 98!!! wow i will never forget this. Bill Goldberg is the best wrestler period!!! his name belongs along ledgends like flair, sting, hogan, hart, savage, austin, the rock, triple h, foley and undertaker!!!

  • I can watch this everyday for the rest of my life and still have the same reaction as I did when I first saw this in '98. This was the pinnacle of wrestling in my opinion. Goldberg, you are the fucking man!!!

  • @genuine440 Very well said!

  • @genuine440 same here man

  • @genuine440 Agree 110%

  • @genuine440 TELL IT!
