man looking back it seems such a joke that pearl jam were considered the "real deal" and stp were just "ripping them off". pearl jam are a nostalgia act now, with these wimpy boring "fans". STP will go down in history as a real, edgy, exciting rock band. Shows that Rolling Stone magazine was irrelevant in 1990, and it still is today, even more so. Long live REAL ROCK N ROLL
God Weiland was my first musical front man love and respect. Middle school 1995. The first time I was ever wooed by this little thing called rock and roll. The feelings of first finding music are literally deeper than anything I've ever felt in my entire life. More than girls. More than material things.
Really ? That's funny I don't remember it happening that way ...Someone forgot to mention Scott and Eric's days in Huntington Beach ! San Diego? Yeah ok.
Core and Purple were pretty epic...but then they got too far out after those 2 albums. The most recent album felt like they were just doing it for money and didn't give a good effort.
@heaveyrocker123 Fuck it, while Eddie's writing soundtracks, STP are rocking out a new album, so I guess the critics are eating their words now...Long Live STP
i'm a big fan of STP, back in the 90s, but these fucken suck now, or at least aren't writing good songs anymore, and you guys just keep jumping on the band wagon, worshipping everything they write, you know even Beethoven wrote shitty music at times, it's not like STP aren't capable of doing it....where are your balls to give honest criticism?
@dalecampbl7 I respect what you're saying, but to be honest, I don't think their newest album is half bad. I see STP as a band that can make tons of different sounds, and very well at the most. Some songs I didn't like all that much but some others I would consider great. I totally respect what you're saying though.
I'm just trying to give an honest opinion...so are you a soundgarden fan? I heard they're coming back together...it's the 90s reunion all over again, I can't wait to hear if they're gonna crank out a new album.
@dalecampbl7 I know, and again, I totally respect that. And yes, I'm a huge Soundgarden fan. It's pretty crazy how all these 90's bands are making a comeback, right? It would be pretty crazy to hear new Soundgarden material in 2010 too.
@godofslumber "Plush" and other early STP songs sounded like Pearl Jam. Many people heard it for the first time and thought they were Pearl Jam. I thought "Core" was an unoriginal album. I liked STP when they became much more personal and diverse ("Tiny Music" is great).
music is music, can't really understand why stp were called rip offs to pj, i hear nothing alike except that its rock, also the songs that were featured in the particular album "core", the majority were already recorded before Ten even came out, like in 1990, the people that i see accusing them of trying to get into the grunge scene seem to be the ones who believed "Rollin Stones" and who also agree to other tone deaf idiots who agreed from other assholes as wel, Stone Temple Pilots is the shit.
I love the theory that they tried to sound like PJ. Ten came out in Aug 0f 91 and didn't breakthrough for close to another year. So STP heard their album and said these guys are going to be huge, so lets write a bunch of songs that sounds kind of like them and hope people will latch onto us because we sound like Pearl Jam. Core came out in sep 92
does anyone know where the last part of this rockumentary went there use to be a part 3 here i would love to see it again if anyone knows where i can find it id appreciate it thanks
@HendrixPrinceFlea89 Temple of the dog was written for the most part by Chris Cornell. Vedder appeared on only 2 of the songs. Mike from Pearl Jam played guitar. All in all, I wouldn't attribute this music to Pearl Jam.
Scott Weiland has a much better voice then Eddie Vedder. STP is also a better band in my opinion..... they have more of a Rock n Roll style while Pearl Jam is just a crappy grunge band. Vedder sounds like he tries way to hard to sound like a Jim Morrision or someone like that
wow the critics were sure right about stp.worst band?how can you be so immune to the truth?become a music critic, lube liberally then insert your cranium up your ass.instant moron.stp rule.Thank you stp for your music
i've always liked STP rather than pearl jam. all of STP's albums sound different and Scott Weiland has such a talented voice. To me, he will always be a better singer than Eddie Vedder.
I always thought anyone who would liken even the "Core" album to Pearl Jam must be deaf or mentally challenged. The two bands are NOTHING alike. I won't dog Pearl Jam - they're actually talented musicians, but they had one spectacular album IMHO and that was "Ten." The rest pale in comparison. STP shows how out of touch the media is with the desires of consumers. Just look at their White House coverage as a prime example.
yea i lost interest after vitalogy. To me, PJ was a bit more classic rock, STP was hard rock at it's core but mixed in all kinds of different elements (but not overdoing it) which made all of their albums so awesome and diverse. I feel the same about Soundgarden, especially Superunknown and Down on the Upside.
Weiland's just the man and the Deleo's are just flat out incapable of making bad music & Kretz has one of my favorite drum sounds. Awesome fucking band an I hope we get a new album.
stp's in a different dimension from pearl jam musically. i doubt there is another band of their era that uses chords as creatively as they do. they're like zeppelin in that the critics of the day slammed them, but the people loved them, and in the long run they outlasted all their peers. yeah boys
haha. anyone notice they play Wet My Bed at like 3:50? and at 4:50 Deleo lies. (sorry) After they had to change from Mighty Joe Young, they changed to Shirley Temple's Pussy. lol. Then the label made them change it, but they kept the initials. No wonder why he didn't say that to a reporter, eh?
lol, He was singing real loud to vibrate the guitar strngs at the same note as his voice. The guitar sound was probably increased on the actual track. I've heard of doing this before, but I hadn't realized that scott did it it on this track.
Someone is very insecure about his sexuality and is likely secretly harboring homosexual fantasies. I'm not going to say his name, but it starts with "glue" and ends with "sniffer."
did anyone else notice at 5:07 that lounge fly was supposed to be on core??? its on the track list w/ all the other core songs but it appears they cut it lol
stp sounds nothing like pearl jam and second of all stp is way better. third of all, rolling stone magazine can be a fucking joke. if you saw their greatest guitarists of all time you would understand this magazine doesnt know what its talking about half the time.
And Fucking Cobain, piece of shit in a guitar world interview he said "nirvana writes songs from the heart, i hated zeppelin growing up they wrote songs with their crotch" I guess that aasshole cobain never heard the physical graphitti album, never heard into the light, kashmir, thats the way, gallows pole (though not written by zep awesome tune). Thats why I hated that grunge shit. Oh my life is sooo tragic I cant deal with stardom BAM the coward leaves a Daughter without a father. Asshole!
Well of course Rolling Stone and there Asshole editor Jan Werner hated STP and Loved shitty ass nirvana, and the fans loved STP. This is the Same shitty magazine that panned all of LED ZEPPELINS albums untill Cameron Crowe came and slapped the shit out of Jan Werner and Rolling Stone. By the way STP sounded NOTHING LIKE PEARL JAM. THEY SUCK STP does not!
