  • At 00:43 hes VERy high on opiates. I know the look and sound.

  • man looking back it seems such a joke that pearl jam were considered the "real deal" and stp were just "ripping them off". pearl jam are a nostalgia act now, with these wimpy boring "fans". STP will go down in history as a real, edgy, exciting rock band. Shows that Rolling Stone magazine was irrelevant in 1990, and it still is today, even more so. Long live REAL ROCK N ROLL

  • God Weiland was my first musical front man love and respect. Middle school 1995. The first time I was ever wooed by this little thing called rock and roll. The feelings of first finding music are literally deeper than anything I've ever felt in my entire life. More than girls. More than material things.

  • Peral Jam=cult following

    STP=actual Rock Icons

Scott and the boys= shere genious

  • not to mention rolling stone magazine used to bash led zeppelin fuck pearl jam

  • i still remember seeing the video for Sex Type Thing the first time on Headbangers Ball in 92. Got the album that christmas. Been a fan ever since.

  • Ah Weiland, always ripping someone else's look and sound... from layne staley, eddie vedder and most recently axl

  • Weiland looks so wasted in some of these interviews haha love STP!

  • I love STP!! I wish I were back in the 90's cause today's music sucks!!!

  • Really ? That's funny I don't remember it happening that way ...Someone forgot to mention Scott and Eric's days in Huntington Beach ! San Diego? Yeah ok.

  • Core and Purple were pretty epic...but then they got too far out after those 2 albums. The most recent album felt like they were just doing it for money and didn't give a good effort.

  • @RufusLynx101 i'm a stp fan but you'r wrong pearl jam has sold 60 million records and stp sold 40 million, but still STP 4 LIFE!

  • megaphone= simple genius... was scott the first to do that>? i know jimi "borrowed" the teeth thing so yeah any one got an idea to shoot my way?

  • I liked STP a HELL of a lot better than Pearl Jizm.

  • @RufusLynx101 Thank you so much!! Pearl Jam TOTALLY sucks! Bottom of the grunge barrel!

  • @TheMtc123 look at them now,you can say 90s rock without bringing up stone temple pliots

  • STP worst band of the year????!!! WTF!

  • whats that pre pubert news anchor that thinks things?

  • STP>pearl jam. js.

  • love how some feel the need to compare bands to each other - how does this make sense ? every band is as different as individuals are - wtf

  • what the fuck is that.... i can't believe people think they sound anything like pearl jam. not even close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BETTER

  • Man, I miss the days when MTV would do interesting stories on ACTUAL music. Instead of a Jersey Shore marathon.

  • They dont sound like Pearl Jam damnit, why does everyone say that?

  • @bkappel836 exactly they dont sound like pearl jam at all...people are so stupid

  • @heaveyrocker123 Fuck it, while Eddie's writing soundtracks, STP are rocking out a new album, so I guess the critics are eating their words now...Long Live STP

  • Do I watch the rest of this or the new South Park?! FUUCK WHAT DO I CHOOSE!??!?!

  • @BobFard this... South Park sux

  • lol i wonder if the deleo brothers know the mothman

  • I REMEMBER THIS MTV ROCK DOCUMENTARY :) But I always wondered why Scott was singing into the guitar?? :)

Its not a microphone for recording silly Scott :)~

  • @jetsonic69 actually it kinda is. lol that distorted voice at the beginning of dead in bloated is him singing through the guitar pickups.

  • 4:53 naked sunday kick ass song!

  • If you don't like it, don't watch it... If you wanna be angry at shit go to therapy instead... hehe

  • pffft Pearl Jam are fucking rubbish, STP rule!

  • Scott reminds me of Layne Staley at 01:49. And fuck all the STP haters. STP is a unique great band.

  • the thing is they sound nothing like pearl jam :/ they are to unique and very talented bands.

  • ALWAYS loved STP!

  • These guys can't speak proper English.

  • scott is the man.

  • might joe young? I'm sure they glad they changed it to STP

  • @dalecampbl7 *mighty...sure it was a typo though.

  • gotta love how instead of fighting over some chick, weiland and robert decided to ditch the bitch and play music together.

  • grow up people. i'd love to hear your opinion of you after 10 years.

  • i'm a big fan of STP, back in the 90s, but these fucken suck now, or at least aren't writing good songs anymore, and you guys just keep jumping on the band wagon, worshipping everything they write, you know even Beethoven wrote shitty music at times, it's not like STP aren't capable of doing it....where are your balls to give honest criticism?

  • @dalecampbl7 it's called as Pearl Jam would say.... EVOLUTION!

  • @dalecampbl7 I respect what you're saying, but to be honest, I don't think their newest album is half bad. I see STP as a band that can make tons of different sounds, and very well at the most. Some songs I didn't like all that much but some others I would consider great. I totally respect what you're saying though.

  • I'm just trying to give an honest opinion...so are you a soundgarden fan? I heard they're coming back together...it's the 90s reunion all over again, I can't wait to hear if they're gonna crank out a new album.

  • @dalecampbl7 I know, and again, I totally respect that. And yes, I'm a huge Soundgarden fan. It's pretty crazy how all these 90's bands are making a comeback, right? It would be pretty crazy to hear new Soundgarden material in 2010 too.

  • @DieHardGardenFan maybe it's the unemployment and they all need a job? hahahaha

  • @dalecampbl7 hahahaha, nice one.

  • they dont sound sshit like pearl jam

  • I remember recording this on videotape.

  • la mejor banda de todos los times

  • these 90s bands should stay retired

  • @dalecampbl7 fuck you

  • @dalecampbl7 yeah, because there's great music today, jackass....

  • @MedicBarbie yeah, because they aren't adding to "great" music anymore

  • @dalecampbl7 if you want to go listen to Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber go ahead.... not trying to be snarky, just sayin.

  • @MedicBarbie snarky snark :p

  • is it me, or is the narrator yelling the whole time?

  • I love how this is back when Scott Weiland went by just Weiland!

  • MTV used to actually talk about music?!

  • @fortysixyou Lol yeah along time ago. Sadly those days are gone.

  • i remeber who the first time rent a cable service i put a mt v channel

    and i saw this rockumentary

    thanx for return guys

god bless weilland for be has strong to fight against the drugs

    now is clean and rockin

    STP RULES !

  • stp its my favorite band risked fucking sound yeahhhh

  • In my opinion, STP has WAY more balls than Pearl Jam. They're both way different bands too, so don't compare them.

  • They don't sound a fucking thing like Pearl Jam.

  • @godofslumber right on

  • @godofslumber I know right. I never understood that at all. The only thing is the low voice, and pearl jam was famous at the same time.

  • @godofslumber "Plush" and other early STP songs sounded like Pearl Jam. Many people heard it for the first time and thought they were Pearl Jam. I thought "Core" was an unoriginal album. I liked STP when they became much more personal and diverse ("Tiny Music" is great).

  • music is music, can't really understand why stp were called rip offs to pj, i hear nothing alike except that its rock, also the songs that were featured in the particular album "core", the majority were already recorded before Ten even came out, like in 1990, the people that i see accusing them of trying to get into the grunge scene seem to be the ones who believed "Rollin Stones" and who also agree to other tone deaf idiots who agreed from other assholes as wel, Stone Temple Pilots is the shit.

  • I love the theory that they tried to sound like PJ. Ten came out in Aug 0f 91 and didn't breakthrough for close to another year. So STP heard their album and said these guys are going to be huge, so lets write a bunch of songs that sounds kind of like them and hope people will latch onto us because we sound like Pearl Jam. Core came out in sep 92

  • i wish someone would uploadall those old stp interviews that are in this video!

  • with all bands of the 90s. you either loved them or hated them. no in between. Korn and Limp Bizket are big expamles. Love them or hate them

  • does anyone know where the last part of this rockumentary went there use to be a part 3 here i would love to see it again if anyone knows where i can find it id appreciate it thanks

  • The third part has a content by WMG. Not available any longer 'cause of copyright reasons!

  • oh that sucks i like that part of the documentary the best tiny music is my favorite record from the 90s

  • watch?v=c2tUeWkavq0

    cosa ne pensate?

  • For me, STP is the best band....!!!!!

  • STP as a reincarnation of Pearl Jam? I don't see the connection.

  • Stone Temple Pilots excels at releasing solid classic albums. Pearl Jam had TEN. and Temple of the Dog and thats it.

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 Temple of the dog was written for the most part by Chris Cornell. Vedder appeared on only 2 of the songs. Mike from Pearl Jam played guitar. All in all, I wouldn't attribute this music to Pearl Jam.

  • rolling stone is only good for givin 5 star ratings to jay z's blueprint 3, lady gagas albums and jonas bros records

  • i love stp but i have to disagree about pearl jam i think they are even better, particularly live they are the best gigs i ever been to

  • weiland just appeared

  • hey man, thanks for posting this. sometimes its tough to find this old stuff, it's good to have it archived somewhere. cheers

  • Scott Weiland has a much better voice then Eddie Vedder. STP is also a better band in my opinion..... they have more of a Rock n Roll style while Pearl Jam is just a crappy grunge band. Vedder sounds like he tries way to hard to sound like a Jim Morrision or someone like that

  • i lov pearl jam. still do....but i never thought id like stp better

  • wow the critics were sure right about stp.worst band?how can you be so immune to the truth?become a music critic, lube liberally then insert your cranium up your ass.instant moron.stp rule.Thank you stp for your music

  • 2- ya see! they even opened for Megadeth! now thats fuckin status in my book!

  • at least the band made it to TV music vidz! and concerts! and thats more success than many wannabe bands achieve.

  • That was amazing to hear the beginning of "dead and bloated" recorded...that just made my week!!!

  • i've always liked STP rather than pearl jam. all of STP's albums sound different and Scott Weiland has such a talented voice. To me, he will always be a better singer than Eddie Vedder.

  • I always thought anyone who would liken even the "Core" album to Pearl Jam must be deaf or mentally challenged. The two bands are NOTHING alike. I won't dog Pearl Jam - they're actually talented musicians, but they had one spectacular album IMHO and that was "Ten." The rest pale in comparison. STP shows how out of touch the media is with the desires of consumers. Just look at their White House coverage as a prime example.

  • exactly.... scott weiland has like 5 different voices.... eddie vedder has only one

  • scott at 00;31 is wasted .u can tell by the way he's talking ..

  • Pearl Jam sucks balls compared to STP.

  • The time when albums were written in full not the "hit singles filled with nonsense" of albums today.

  • "when they were called pearl jam" lol

  • stp > pearl jam

pearl jam has one good album, stp has 5!

and, the 2 bands sound nothing alike. whoever started that crap is just jealous b/c scott is one of the most innovative frontmen of our time.

  • you nailed it and I cant believe they keep coming back with this sh*t. Just proves that media and comedians knows jack about music.

  • yea i lost interest after vitalogy. To me, PJ was a bit more classic rock, STP was hard rock at it's core but mixed in all kinds of different elements (but not overdoing it) which made all of their albums so awesome and diverse. I feel the same about Soundgarden, especially Superunknown and Down on the Upside.

Weiland's just the man and the Deleo's are just flat out incapable of making bad music & Kretz has one of my favorite drum sounds. Awesome fucking band an I hope we get a new album.

  • can't agree with you more vickireags. why would anyone think that?

  • vocally, no they don't sound like pearl jam but the music does I think.

  • stp's in a different dimension from pearl jam musically. i doubt there is another band of their era that uses chords as creatively as they do. they're like zeppelin in that the critics of the day slammed them, but the people loved them, and in the long run they outlasted all their peers. yeah boys

  • music doesn't. stp are better musicains then pj

  • Stone temple pilots sounds nothing like pearl jam

god people need to get their ears cleaned

  • Am i the only person who thinks stp and pj sound nothing alike. i love them both, Eddie ans scott sound way different

  • SCOTT WEILAND IS A ROCKSTAR.

  • was that david spade on SNL making fun of them?

well he's a huge fan now

  • Is there more of those? Can you post it ? please

  • ththe voice is amazing(=^;^=)

  • Comment removed

  • It IS sex type thing. It's just a harder part to hear. "here I come, I come, I come, I come."

  • I always thought that the "seeing the same girl" thing about Scott and Rob was myth.

  • stone road? lol they suck, there to young and there trying to sound like grunge

  • 2:05 is 'Art School Girl'

  • love this band..gota a new band that sounds similiar to them thats new all on my channel. "stone road" rock on!!!

  • nirvana sucks compared to them

  • haha. anyone notice they play Wet My Bed at like 3:50? and at 4:50 Deleo lies. (sorry) After they had to change from Mighty Joe Young, they changed to Shirley Temple's Pussy. lol. Then the label made them change it, but they kept the initials. No wonder why he didn't say that to a reporter, eh?

  • Who said Stp sucks its just a retard!

  • How did Scott sing into guitar pickups?

  • lol, He was singing real loud to vibrate the guitar strngs at the same note as his voice. The guitar sound was probably increased on the actual track. I've heard of doing this before, but I hadn't realized that scott did it it on this track.

  • He was actually just singing through the pickups lol

  • hes just singing through the pick ups thats what makes his voice sound gritty in the beginning.

  • the grunge era is the best;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

  • no he looks better back then than now ,little fucker

  • I like how scott looks today better than back then.

  • good material!!!...ill take it!

  • isn't that last song by nirvana?

  • no its called creep and its by stp

  • yeah i found that out afterwards... everyone thinks its nirvana though lol

  • lmoalmao hahaa scott looks like fredryk phox at 1:51

lolol if u kno who that is its funny

  • scott got into the drugs to fast ruined his face and his personality isnt the same any more

  • That was when Scott still had his baby fat. Smack helped him grow into the emaciated androgynous frontman he is today. I miss the fleshy Scott.

  • Sorry guys i'm a dude and i think im gay for scott man!!!

  • you sick fucker dont even go there

  • Someone is very insecure about his sexuality and is likely secretly harboring homosexual fantasies. I'm not going to say his name, but it starts with "glue" and ends with "sniffer."

  • i love when dean say weiland just appeared

  • 4:00 fucking awesome

  • hells yeah - Singing into guitar pickups... bad ass.

  • I never noticed that until you mentioned it.

  • did anyone else notice at 5:07 that lounge fly was supposed to be on core??? its on the track list w/ all the other core songs but it appears they cut it lol

  • Ahhhh, back when MTV was about nothing but music. When they weren't playing videos, they were doing documentaries about bands.

  • stp sounds nothing like pearl jam and second of all stp is way better. third of all, rolling stone magazine can be a fucking joke. if you saw their greatest guitarists of all time you would understand this magazine doesnt know what its talking about half the time.

  • i never understand that, pearl jam and STP not sound the same at all. Every band is unique, and the pilots they are the pilots...

  • Thats what I always thought but now looking back on it, it does kinda seem like STP were in the same vein. Now Weiland is a Bowie impersonator.

  • Same kinda genre I guess, but I never really thought any of the grunge bands sounded "alike".

Yeah he does remind me alot of Bowie now though, but bowies badass so its cool haha.

  • it's funny, when "plush" first came out i thought for sure it was pearl jam & now, i don't think it sounds like pj at all.

  • i remember thinking the same lol

  • I like both bands and Pearl jam and STP sound nothing like each other at all. I never understood that comparison.

  • L!OL david spade is a little twat... "they were great the first time I saw them when they were called pearl jam"

  • he has his appeal

  • I love the red head scott in Plush soooo much!!!!!!

  • we need that Mighty Joe Young club segment to be released! :O

  • And Fucking Cobain, piece of shit in a guitar world interview he said "nirvana writes songs from the heart, i hated zeppelin growing up they wrote songs with their crotch" I guess that aasshole cobain never heard the physical graphitti album, never heard into the light, kashmir, thats the way, gallows pole (though not written by zep awesome tune). Thats why I hated that grunge shit. Oh my life is sooo tragic I cant deal with stardom BAM the coward leaves a Daughter without a father. Asshole!

  • I eat, breathe and sleep Zepplin, but I also really dig some of this Seattle era

  • Well of course Rolling Stone and there Asshole editor Jan Werner hated STP and Loved shitty ass nirvana, and the fans loved STP. This is the Same shitty magazine that panned all of LED ZEPPELINS albums untill Cameron Crowe came and slapped the shit out of Jan Werner and Rolling Stone. By the way STP sounded NOTHING LIKE PEARL JAM. THEY SUCK STP does not!

  • great video thanks for posting this.

  • That's awsome!

  • OMG thanks for posting all these Rockumentary parts ive been waiting for this, we all love ya STP rock on!!!

  • Been wanting to watch this again for many years now...12 years, to be exact. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for finally posting this, I haven't seen this in years... Brings back some great memories of STP in their heyday.

  • Weiland's speaking voice is weird.

Thanks for the upload. STP used to be awesome.

  • They still are, filth.

  • Classic! I remember taping this!
