Frankly these says the US needs to be deterred, just about every serious war they've had in the last 50 years has made thing in the absolutely worse. Make no mistake Iran is no doe-eyed innocent but in terms of effects on the world, overall people killed, and civil rights and the mixing of religion and state. The U.S and Iran are no different

This debate is asking the wrong question. It should be blatantly obvious that we will NOT get anywhere with Iran. Liz and Dan don't seem to appreciate that Obama's extended hand, if ignored, will give the US more credibility on the international front if and when we resort to military actions against Iran. What we need to do and what Obama IS doing is sending a message to the rest of the world: We tried.

The point, now, is not to deal with Iran. It's to rally international support.

@quodmenutrit You're totally right. I'm sure the first country that gets nuked by Iran will really appreciate the fact that we tried. If you think for a second that Iran won't use their nuclear ability for aggressive purposes then you are deluding yourself. Iran is in the same build up to war that can be seen though out history. If unchecked, Iranian aggression WILL end violently. But hey... at least we tried right?

"Iran's security" ... what is Iran? Is Iran the wonderful culture and people of a part of the world that has been key in the evolution of civilization, or it Iran the repressive anti-human rights, bent on genocide, government of Mamoud Ahmadinejad?

Iran is controlled by Ahmadinejad, and the radical clerics, and to the extent that having repressive governments controlling their people and interfering with international peace is bad, so is a nuclear Iran, and it should be unacceptable.
