If your engine is set-up good and maintained properly there is no reason for it to melt down. Flying down a lake for 2-3 miles should not be a problem. Those E-Tecs seem to fall victim to that though. I've counted 6 in my area alone go down this year.

9500rpm sounds a little high and 34 mile WFO runs sounds a little exagerated, but otherwise you're correct. People have these brutal misconceptions about 2-Strokes that they are time bombs waiting to go off. As long as it's stored properly, maintained and setup right then there shouldn't be any problems. Amsoil and premium gas help too. LoL.

A XP 800 can be as fast as an APEX as the engine has as much peak power, but and this is why 99 times out of a 100 it will get wooped, SKIDOO can make clutches hit peak power. Yamaha can and does not have to hit a small peak as the 4 stroke power peak has a large rpm span, move 500 rpm with apex and only a few ponnies are gone. Same thing with my GSX-R1000 that I roadrace with, big power (about 200 hp at crank with all I got on) and one gear up or down produces almost the same torque on wheel.

I have a APEX GT, was short but as I bought it in Moscow/Ronald (no one available in WA, Seattle area) XP 800 fast/snappy but belt or engine failure or gearbox failures make them dissapear after a few days. ON the lake they are fast at the start and 1 mile into the lake it is hard to see them behind me, mostly because of snow debris flying after my APEX rushing down the lake at 200 km/h

I'm not the one doing the comparing......USCC and other racing associations are the ones who class the Nytro as an equivalent to a 600cc 2-Stroke.

Of course a Mach Z is gonna blow a Nytro out of the water. The classes are based on power output. A full mod 600cc Ski-Doo is putting out about 150bhp. Yamaha's factory race Nytro is also putting out that kind of power therefore they're in the same class, regardless of the number of cylinders or cc's...

The 998 cc 4 cyl 4 stroke Genesis is roughly equivalent to a strong 700 or 800 2 stroke.

And actually the larger 1050cc 4 stroke 3 cyl Nytro engine is classed as a 600 cc in drags.

You can't say "well the Yamaha had an extra 200 cc's on the ski-doo blah blah blah" because really, they are in the same class...and generally it takes a 4 stroke twice the cc's to make the same power as a 2 stroke but Yamaha in all there glory has found a way to surpass that obsticle, simply amazing..;)

Yeah that and the fact that everytime a 2-Stroke piston comes up to the top of the cylinder an ignition sends it back down...That only happens every other time the piston comes up on a 4-Stroke.

Thats why 4-Strokes need multiple cylinders and/or turbos to be competitive with 2-Strokes in power.
