You said to start the motherboard before you bother removing mosfets/bridges. A stupid question on my part but is it possible to hook the psu to the mobo press the mobos on button and just see if it gets power so i dont void my warranty? Or wouldn't it boot at all without ram/cpu? Again it's probably a stupid question >.>
Sorry for sounding a noob when it comes to water cooling but, What are the main benefits in water cooling the north and south chip sets besides the cpu itself?
I assume if I just put the chipset blocks on and not the QPI block I will still be able to overclock my ram to like 1800mhz with 6-6-6-18 timings? (I have corsair 1866mhz dominator GT's)
Well, I bought it from a dealer in Germany, which is probably not much use to you (depending on where you live). But you can always order from Koolance directly, if you can't find the block anywhere else.
In most cases, liquid-cooling the mosfets isn't really necessary. However, with the Rampage II Extreme (as well as some other mainboards) your only options are to either use a Fusionblock style cooler or install waterblocks on all the components. Because the heatsink is connected with heatpipes, you can't leave the original heatsinks on the mosfets and replace the NB/SB coolers.
Just woundering Does the QPI Card really need the watercooling to keep up with the OCing of the rest of the system on the watercooling becuase I would love to keep the ROG logo.
very good tutorial. would've liked to see this with the Bitspower waterblocks though, but I guess their installation isn't too different. Gute Arbeit Junge!
No, unfortunately, you can't. The mosfet heatsink is connected to the NB/SB heatsink with heatpipes. The only thing that's optional here is the elevated DRAM thingy. You can keep the original heatsink on that and have the rest of the board watercooled.
Just watched most of your English videos and they were very well made and took all the doubt out of the intimidating task of water cooling. Excellent work :)
The Mosfets have thermal pads applied, so no extra compound is needed. For help with your build, I recommend registering at a forum, where there are lots of people who can help and give tips. Google "RRTech", "Overclock watercooling forum" or "liquid cooling forum" to find some good forums I frequent myself. :)
Yep, I was very generous with the thermal paste here. I got into the habit of applying more grease than usual for blocks covering multible parts (like graphics cards blocks). I noticed that the contact was often less than perfect when I applied just a thin layer like on a CPU.
oh, I see, personally wouldn't know never used WC yet. And when I do I probably won't WC the N &S brigdes
I have this thing about tubing running all over the place. We went from PC having cables running all over the place to now if you don't use cable mgmt. then you haven't put the required effort in your rig.
So that being said, IMO until they come up with something that doesn't look so sloppy in the case I'll stick with air. I have something in mind, but can't let the secret out just yet!

steelekilla101 2 years ago
Well, the waterblocks look cool!
Apart from that, the benefits of watercooling the MB components are minimal (especially with chipsets like the X58).
Sure, it may help you get a little higher overclocks, but nothing dramatic, in most cases.
DeXgocom 2 years ago
@DeXgocom watercooled chipsets also have a longer life than heatsink chipsets because they run at a cooler temperature, almost half.
punjabhe 3 weeks ago
@steelekilla101 if you don't watercool them, it will burn. When you overclock your cpu, you have to call fire department. :)

Hi, great vid, i am building a custom computer and i am using the Rampage II Extreme MOBO, could you tell me where you bought this kit, thanks

Sorry to tell you this but koolance have apparently dis continued the kit for the r2e im not sure why does anyone know?
Aussierox12345 2 years ago
@Aussierox12345 maybe not enough customers purchasing their R2E cooling kit. The last time i checked their website, the cooling blocks were on sale.

@Mantgm240 you can get from frozencpudotcom which ships worldwide via FedEx

surely mosfet watercooling is not needed?
but anyway thanks very much for this video, helped me sort my mind out a lot
LizzyAston 2 years ago
Yeah, it's usually not really necessary. Lots of this watercooling stuff is as much for the bling-factor as anything else, IMO. :)

will these water blocks work on EVGA X58 chipsets too?
Energi2DmaxX 2 years ago
No, these mainboard waterblocks are made for one model specifically. You can find different waterblocks for the EVGA boards, though.

Aussierox12345 2 years ago
No, the QPI Card will do perfectly fine without watercooling. You can use just the lower part of the Koolance block or any block for that matter.

anyone know where i can find the complete Bitspower waterblock kit for the rampage II extreme including the mosfet waterblocks as well?

Can you just use the Norther B and South B water block and keep the rest of the heat sink on?

its a motherboard not a mainboard
killer14221 2 years ago
What's the difference? I didn't know there was a distinction between the two.
DeXgocom 2 years ago
just that no one calls it a mainboard

just wondering if ur available when i need tutor??
i will buy all the parts this weekend, so probably by the next weekend i could start.

thanks.

great tutorial 5starz
I think you had to much thermal grease on the south bridge at 2:31, normally you would want a thin even coat of thermal grease.
anyway great vids subbed
keep up the great work!

The asus rampage 2 has a small south bridge than the standard right?

Not that I know of. Looks like North- and Southbridge are pretty much standard. But I don't know any details.
