@sallylongpants Yeah, sadly, today's society is more paranoid and suspicious of people and things they don't understand. People are hyper-sensitive and more easily offended over PC, religion, homosexuality and social values. That's partly to blame for the instant-gratification world we live in.
@Bucs211 I know what you mean, i remember all of thease old nbc promos. thease you know something great is coming on tv and evrybody was in the house and not on the streets causeing trouble. god i miss theasedays
There used to be a channel in Britain called the Movie Channel. The guy who created that intro also done the one for The Movie Channel - let just say there was not a copyright issue (it the same intro but without the NBC logo..)
It WAS exciting. You'd "prepare" to watch the movie ahead of time. Anticipation was fun. Get the popcorn "popped" grab a bottle of Coke or Pepsi and ENJOY! Boy, do I miss those days!
One of the best TV movies to come under this opening was The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake (1990)! I still remember the promos and everything! Such a great film & 1,000 times better than that 10.5 crap from a few years ago.
I Haven't Seen This Bumper, but It Seems To Have Premiered Before The Teasers For The Top Gun Network Premiere. BTW, An NBC Mini-Series Variant Was Used Before The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake Teaser Came On NBC.
Definitely the best NBC intro ever, and perhaps the best ever of any network. I've been looking for this intro for a long time, I'm a computer graphics/logo buff.
This is the OPENING TITLE used for "NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" between 1984 through 1989 (at least). Sometimes, an announcer would say at the end, "Tonight- on 'NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES'...", which would fade into a "teaser" for the evening's feature.
OH ... and the reason why movies are not shown today. Ratings failure with all the movie channels as well as the on-demand movies. Thank cable for that.
I think it's really sad that a lot of the networks no longer have weekly movies. I believe ABC still has the Saturday ones, but NBC I don't think has had the Sunday and Monday night movies for years, or the Movie of the Week for that matter. A good way to get the family into the room is a movie, and when a network airs one it saves the rental fee. They need to bring this back.
TVB90 I maybe wrong on this but NBC stopped using this intro at the end of the 1990-91 season and they used a new intro at the start of the '91-92 season like I said I maybe wrong or I got it in reverse in any event let me know if I'm correct on this or not
I must have been eight or nine years old when I first saw this opening sequence, and I'd always make sure to turn on KARE Ch. 11 just to watch this opening! I was mad anytime the station cut into it after like 5 seconds already played! I think I may have only saw this one time in its entirety back then. Many thanks!
OH...I remember this one! I used to get really excited when it would come on. Normally at about 0:23, an announcer would come on and say something like, "tonight, a network television premiere". Ah...gotta' love the 80s.
Thank you for posting this! It's a shame they don't do these grand movie openings anymore (I think ABC is the only major network still showing movies, actually?) They just dead-seg from a local affiliate promo right into "This film has been editted to crap so that your kids won't hear any bad words they're already hearing in school, and so we can fit in more commercials."
I think movie night needs to come back to network TV. No wonder people have lost interest in the television set, there's nothing worth watching.

Brazilian TV Globo had a similar ident in the 80s, for its Saturday's movie session called "Supercine". The filmstrips formed an "S".

Do you know who composed the music to this?
dgontar 3 years ago
It was adapted from Rob Mounsey's "Come [on] Home to NBC" package from 1987.
palmercomm 3 years ago 2
Are you sure this came out in 1987 though?
dgontar 3 years ago
I ask because Brian Karimzad's site gives 1986, not 1987.
dgontar 3 years ago
I'm talking about the 2nd version of "Come Home to NBC".

TV3 New Zealand used these graphics and music too. Without the NBC bit of course.

and so did Sky TV

Back when people would really get excited about tv and home pcs were not around to take everyones time up
I often wonder what I did with the time that I spend on the pc now...
But then again, without youtube and computers, how could we relive our youth and the things we enjoyed on tv before?
Other than videos and dvds of course
