There used to be a channel in Britain called the Movie Channel. The guy who created that intro also done the one for The Movie Channel - let just say there was not a copyright issue (it the same intro but without the NBC logo..)

It WAS exciting. You'd "prepare" to watch the movie ahead of time. Anticipation was fun. Get the popcorn "popped" grab a bottle of Coke or Pepsi and ENJOY! Boy, do I miss those days!

One of the best TV movies to come under this opening was The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake (1990)! I still remember the promos and everything! Such a great film & 1,000 times better than that 10.5 crap from a few years ago.

I Haven't Seen This Bumper, but It Seems To Have Premiered Before The Teasers For The Top Gun Network Premiere. BTW, An NBC Mini-Series Variant Was Used Before The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake Teaser Came On NBC.

This is the OPENING TITLE used for "NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" between 1984 through 1989 (at least). Sometimes, an announcer would say at the end, "Tonight- on 'NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES'...", which would fade into a "teaser" for the evening's feature.

This was the BEST Intro EVER!!!! Who did the music? It would still be fresh today! Well it would be redone in 5.1 BUT still great! (I was 9 as well)

I think it's really sad that a lot of the networks no longer have weekly movies. I believe ABC still has the Saturday ones, but NBC I don't think has had the Sunday and Monday night movies for years, or the Movie of the Week for that matter. A good way to get the family into the room is a movie, and when a network airs one it saves the rental fee. They need to bring this back.

TVB90 I maybe wrong on this but NBC stopped using this intro at the end of the 1990-91 season and they used a new intro at the start of the '91-92 season like I said I maybe wrong or I got it in reverse in any event let me know if I'm correct on this or not

I must have been eight or nine years old when I first saw this opening sequence, and I'd always make sure to turn on KARE Ch. 11 just to watch this opening! I was mad anytime the station cut into it after like 5 seconds already played! I think I may have only saw this one time in its entirety back then. Many thanks!

OH...I remember this one! I used to get really excited when it would come on. Normally at about 0:23, an announcer would come on and say something like, "tonight, a network television premiere". Ah...gotta' love the 80s.

Thank you for posting this! It's a shame they don't do these grand movie openings anymore (I think ABC is the only major network still showing movies, actually?) They just dead-seg from a local affiliate promo right into "This film has been editted to crap so that your kids won't hear any bad words they're already hearing in school, and so we can fit in more commercials."
