  • I watched the very first programme broadcast on Ch 4. Countdown!

  • ADRIAN PSYCHIATRIST V COURT CHAMBERS LAURA FRASER

  • Channel 4 ident as if it had been launched after 1982

  • Gotta be said channel 4 lost it's balls around the time T4 came in with those hipster Indy style presenters... Now we gotta put up with annoying programs like Phoneshop and desperate scousewives and just T4 in general... I miss The Big Breakfast and TFI Friday programs like that were awesome

  • They should bring this back. This is one of the best Ident's in British TV history.

  • Music by David Dundas

  • Simple; clean and should still be with us

  • *Green block comes out of screen* "Yep, that promo was right."

  • Sorry, i meant to put 1992.

  • This was back when TV stations had bold, authoritative idents, rather than the "ironic" offerings we have today. Channel 4 eventually scrapped the music in 1982, as they couldnt afford to keep paying the royalties to David Dundas, the composer of "Fourscore".

  • best channel

  • The theme tune's a classic. Takes me back when they used to show these "explicit" movies indicated by a red triangle at the corner of the screen. Ah,my teenage years.....

  • I remember tan old Hamlet Cigar advert, where the C4 ident (this one) couldn't assemble itself, and gave up and relaxed with the aforementioned Cigar.

  • That actually looks advanced for 1982

  • I wonder will C4 use this next year as it's their 30th anniversary next year. We saw it for the 25th anniversary so they could do it again next year.

  • SECRET LIFE OF MACHINES WHERE GOOD OL TIM HUNKIN IS SHOWING US HOW A TAPE RECORDER WORKS! lol

  • I thought the brick at 0:02 to 0:03 was gonna come out at me

  • to think this was cutting edge back then.... i can do this on free source blender software in about 20 mins and ive never even been educated in it :L

  • Still scares the shit out of me to this day!

  • @chamsazp - 4 some reason this sceared me as a kid aswell, lol. Maybe its the multi colour logo on a sceary black background lol

  • Much better than those daft indents they use today

  • much better than idents today

  • The thing is, they wouldn't use a multicoloured logo like this nowadays as it would be considered a little childish. Now channels tend to use only one or two distinctive colours which represent the channel. For example BBC Ones initial color is red at the moment, and BBC Two's initial colour is greeny blue. I suppose that if a channel sticks with one colour, or two at the most, it's easily recognisable.

  • woah! shivers down spine! I was two when channel four came out, remember it ... not so well.

  • A yes... when ch4 used to be a good channel. Now its all reality selling homes shit

  • Retro gold

  • They should have kept this, hmm I wonder if there is a facebook campaign to get this back..........

  • Bring Back The Channel 4 Blocks, Fourscore and the clocks! Search this on Facebook! :)

  • I was told by my mother that she knew personally the person who created this animation....I'm not sure if I believe her but it's still cool anyway!

  • Awesome 80s cgi

  • I remember at the time being told (on the TV) that the guy who wrote the channel 4 theme got £1000 a week for it. Nice work if you can get it.

  • the spinning blocks is my favorite , 2nd is the blown away blocks

  • never gets old

  • C4 should never have got rid of this ident.

"IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!"

  • The new ones are quite cool though - but these remind me of being a wee lad at my late Nans on a saturday! Good times.

  • This was pretty advanced computer graphics for 1982! Far better than anything my CBM64 could manage.

  • When I was little, if I was in the room when this came on TV, my parents would demand I go to bed regardless of what time it was or what program was coming on. I still haven't figured that one out...

  • Why don't you ask them then?

  • The little pruple piece looks like a chewit ^^

  • It's basic but does the job. You know who you are watching and it grabs your attention...and I miss them to be honest :(

  • I love it!

  • 1982 - 1996.

  • I think this was more late 80's - early 90's.

  • 1982-1996 with a music change in 1993

  • Ive spooted a snag with the C4 ident. Watch the longer green block as it goes round and then goes back to form part of the 4. It is parallel with the viewers POV as it goes round but appears angled in the 4

  • Haha just think... You could put that imagery and music together now on most household PC's!

  • I think thats quite good for 82.

  • Perfect 4 graphic!

Remember when Channel 4 first started on 2nd November 1982?

  • Nice resolution on this. Cheers!

  • Hey, Kaly13!

You done a great thing to celebrate Channel 4's 25th Anniversary on the 2nd November, this year.

  • Wow, is this really computer animated?

  • Oh,yeah! This is REALLY computer animated. It's made by Lambie-Nairn. For the time that was made,it used the most advanced technology.

  • Britain had Lambie-Nairn; we in the U.S. had Cranston-Csuri (which would pave the way for other computer animation studios to follow).

  • The first ever computer-generated ident used in he UK if I'm right.

  • no, that was the BBC 1979-1986 ident

  • I should have said, *BBC2* 1979-1986 ident

  • I always thought that BBC2 one was electronically generated, but you're right most of the time so I won't correct :)

  • @kaly13 Can you uploaded any more Channel 4 Idents this time with different postions. that will be much helpful. Thanks

  • @kaly13 yeh i remember seeing a computer on display that could do this and people thought it was amazing haha!
