  • just because its fast doesn't make it the best for fishing... does it have enough storage? can it do a surf launch? how much weight will it hold? better yet, will it capsize on a good fish? lol

  • Theres a sea monster behind you at .39!

  • Awesome smile bomb!

  • Ballin!

  • You look like Jim Cantore from the Weather Cannel

  • Lol your face at the end cracked me up :D

  • 9MPH Threw the channel, huh? That's amassing!

  • loved the face XD well done sir, definably going to look into this

  • WHere do you buy thi model? What is the make?

  • @allicioffi The Model is WaveWalker. The Builder is Harry Howard. Thanks.

  • can you take the mirage drive out and still paddle the kayak?

  • @smearnoff5100 Yes, the drive "retractable', so you just pull the lever up and forward and the drive is out of the water. This kayak a "Wavewalker' drive in it.

  • can u change through gears like a 21 speed? .... would be asome if it was set up like that

  • 9? Looks more like 8MPH

  • wheres the GPS reading? maybe you hit 7 with the wind to your advantage...haha

  • 9 miles an hour? No mate, i'm not going to believe you without proof either, it's sort blowing your own trumpet without proof, i've got 11 inches, do you believe me?

  • @73mandala I have since sold this custom built Wavewalker. If you watch how fast I am pulling away from the fishing boat when I really get on it, it puts the speed into better perspective.

  • @ooogaler

you cheesin is the best part. haha. wonder why people dont believe it? Its water, not like there is much friction going on, and we've all seen a bike go 9mph.

  • @73mandala Did you get in jail, or do you still have it? HA HA

  • Maybe next time you can hold up a GPS to the camera so you can PROVE it so everyone doesn't doubt you in every comment and then you get angry and defend yourself

  • what's the name of this kayak's brand?

  • @scrillah81 This was produced by Harry Howard and is called a Wavewalker.

  • @scrillah81 it was hand built by Harry Howard and it is called a Wavewalker.

  • what kind of kayak please? it is hobie adventure

  • Impressive, but the fastest? Could this beat Greg's pedal powered boat? adventuresofgreg , I would buy this Kayak over the conventional paddle powered ones.

  • You are definately moving at a good speed when there is a wake behind the boat and spray at the bow sides. It is fast. What would the carrying capacity be? And do you think it would be any good to set up for fishing?

  • @nobull60 A wake out the back of a yak or boat doesn't generally mean speed, it could also be from an ordinary hull design, i've noticed alot of plastic(tupperware) pedal yaks are extremely wide and have really bad under water lines, this can produce a wake as well

  • @nobull60 Harry Howard custom builds them for all types of fishing. The capacity is 475lbs.

  • Just get some video of your GPS screen and we can all believe.

  • through

  • wish I waited to get my kayak LOL just got a fishing kayak a few weeks ago love it but I never seen a pedal kayak until you tube and I have been kayaking/white water rafting for years 9 miles and hours is very possible after watching a few video's and with the way kayaks are shaped they move pretty fast as is and the condition the person is in and the resistance in the peddles it's possible now any higher I don't think with the design and equipment would work to well but possible ;o}

  • Not bad. My pedal kayak's been clocked at 16kph by GPS in pedal mode with no wind. It's a Current Designs Expedition with a Spinfin drive. The world record's closer to 20 knots though in a pedal hydrofoil.

  • i believe i cam build a pedal powered boat going around 25 mph or faster but i don`t have sponsors yet...sorry for my english

  • @caralaues Sorry, I don't think that's possible...

  • @caralaues I'm interested in what you claim, 25 mph from pedal power is extremely quick, please pm me i would be interested in talking with you about this design. Cheers Al BTW there's nothing wrong with your English

  • @73mandala The builder of this boat is Harry Howard and the model is Wavewalker

  • @ooogaler No i meant the design you said further down here in the comments that you believe you have a design that could do 25 mph but you need sponsors. That was what i wanted you to contact me about, i'm interested in your design, that is what i wanted to know about

  • @ooogaler Disregard my last message, i got you confused with caralaues, he said further down that he had a design he thought could do 25 mph but needed sponsors, i thought you was him because you answered on my comment to him. WOW that sounds so confusing for a small slip up hahaha, cheers Al

  • @73mandala it takes a fit body(healthy,sporty.non-smoker person)you will need gears(like the ones used in mountain bikes) a special propeller(i didn't find any pictures to send you,but its similar to the ones are used it the super speed boats that are racing in Dubai, ) a special kayak(a lot more narrower that the one in the video) and a lot of will power to finish the project(send me your e-mail and we talk,i would be grateful to give you my ideas

  • Damn...hope that's not a no-wake channel

  • I'd love to make a hydrofoil version of this. Once you get up to lift speed on one of 'em, it gets much easier... maybe self-powered international travel could be achievable for ordinary mortals :D

  • How do you transfer the power from your legs to the propeller? I was thinking of building my own human powered water craft and thus am thinking of these things as well. Currently, I'm in favor of a drive shaft in stead of chains and gears.

  • 250 lbs huh? Wow... my roof rack is only rated to 150 (which isn't bad for a roof rack). Still those things are too cool... and what a cross-training tool for people like me with recumbent bikes. Thanks for posting!

  • Actually, it weighs 115lbs. You are welcome.

  • Where the heck did I get 250? Sorry about that. 115 isn't that bad at all, I think with one of those cradles with rollers I'd be able to car-top that solo, assuming the drive doesn't interfere with car-top carry? Anyways, rock on.

  • I was gonna rate it 4 but the smile at the end totally deserves a 5

  • boo on youtube haters!

    Cute video, thanks for sharing.

  • Looks like jim from the weather channel

  • Does this have a conventional prop or is it one of those flipper paddle things?

  • Impressive... However I can see myself gettting tired pretty quick.

As for the speed, I imagine since the hobie mirage drive speaks of 5-7 mph with turbo fins from demo vids Ive seen I dont doubt the 9 mph... I am curious if this is a prototype model of yours or if its actually purchasable?

  • pfft

  • If it's so fast, lets see it go up rapids

  • if you want to go fast , you should peddle and paddle

  • Smokin.... How much is one of those?

  • depends on gearing and the prop, he looks to be going at a fast clip, maybe a foil would help.

  • If it doesn't have a foil it wont be the fastest pedal powered kayak for long

  • It is truly telling when someone starts throwing around their "credentials" instead of facts that they know when they are spouting mis-truths.

It is a very simple question. Where is the proof that this boat is going 9 mph without some form of assistance?

  • Wow, it truly blows me away at the arrogance and audacity you show threw your statements, especially with your involvement with hpv's. You have absolutely no idea who I am, or my level of conditioning, yet you think just because "you" can't make it past six or up to 8/9 during a sprint, that I or any of the other six plus billion people on this planet can.

  • I am not new to this game mike, I have been lucky enough to have tested and and owned some of the best engineered pps' which includes Gordy nashes ppb, and also have been blessed by having the "PEDALOS" in my possession for over a year at one point, so I truly know what a fast ppb feels like. Who do you think you are, that I need to prove anything to you?

  • You don't need to prove anything but unless you offer any to substantiate your claim, not many will believe you. Gordie never did more than 6-1/2 nauts whenever I raced against him in NorCal. Mike is right to ask for the proof.

  • This looks a lot like a WaveWalker. If it is, then the boat is quite heavy and tops out around 6 mph.

Take a look at the Open Water Cycling Cadence for a much faster pedaled "kayak". That boat cruises at 6+ mph, and people can sprint to 10+ mph - without current or wind assistance.

  • Once you get the Wavewalker in the water, the weight is in no way a concern. As far as topping out at 6 mph, maybe in rough seas.

The Cadence is a work of art, and fast but, it's a lake or small bay boat because of it's lack of stability in rough water.

  • I've used the Cadence on the ocean in waves up to 3 feet and winds of 15 knots and in large swells. It does take some experience and a good sense of balance but it certainly can be done.

Need more stability? The optional outriggers enable one to stand up, cast a rod, pull in large fish, etc.

The WaveWalker tops out at 6 mph on mirror flat water. I've tried that boat with a GPS. It puts up a tremendous bow wave and the propeller starts getting ventilation, preventing higher speeds.

  • With the Wavewalker, all you have to do to beach it is, pull up the keel and rudder, which takes a bout 5 seconds, and then get out and pull it the rest of the way on shore. How do you beach the Cadence with rudder and prop exposed? When I leave shore in the morning I don't want to worry about brining along a set of $600 outriggers incase the weather changes, or I want to go out to the potato patch past the Golden Gate bridge.

  • You can beach the Cadence, too, though as with any boat you will end up with scratches in the hull. You can either lift and pull the boat onto the shore stern first or use a dolly.

I'd like to see you put two Wavewalkers on the roof of your car by yourself and drive about town. Those things need a trailer, albeit a lightweight one, and two strong people to carry to the beach. Have fun trying to park in all those single length parking spots!

  • You are a quite the star on my blog. Goldenrod says, It's not going to be hard to pick this guy out of a crowd, if the wind breaks 15 and the seas go over 3, just look for the guy with the $600 training wheels.Shemp says, I have heard about these guys, they call themselves "pedalfiles" they sleep with the their under aged boats. Guyak says, doesn't this guy have anything better to do than pick apart your poor defenseless kayak.Homeschool asks, were dus he puts those floaties wen hes pedlin?

  • So, I can buy 2 Very stable Wavewalkers for the price of one Cadence, that I can easily stand up in and cast, and take on all conditions with no need for outriggers, and beach and clear the prop without ever leaving the boat. I pick the Wavewalke.

  • The condition of the person piloting these boats has a lot to do with the top speed you can reach.

So, we have eel grass and seaweed in our bay and along our coast, and sometimes it gets caught up in the prop. On the Wavewalker , all I have to do is raise the keel in front of me which has the prop at the end, and just reach down and remove whatever is on it. With the Cadence, my guess is you must get out of the boat and into the water to remove whateer is wrapped around it

  • The design of the boat has much more to do with the top speed of the boat, as well as with the long term cruising speed for a given "motor".

We have eel grass, kelp, milfoil and everything else you have, and encounter areas where even power boats have troubles. In the Cadence you just pedal backwards a little and the cutting blade removes the weeds without you even getting your hands wet.

  • Well . . . let's see:

    1. Who besides the cameraman says it's the world's fastest?

    2. How fast is it?

    3. Who makes it?

    4. Who has it raced?

    5. Is it mass-produced?

    6. Where is it?

    7. What are the boat specs?

    etc etc

  • That is a wavewalker. I own two. I like the Cadence for the weight (83#'s) but $4000 for a yak? Wavewalkers can be had for $1800. 250#'s a pop makes them fun to load, but they don't feel like 250#'s on the water.

  • Wavewalkers are 125lbs.... The first fiberglass ones are still only 135lbs.

  • Thank you, I double checked and you ar right. We pedalled about 11 miles Saturday at Spicer Reservoir in the Sierras.

  • If I may ask were you picked up your Wavewalkers?

  • Form Marc in Sausalito. He is now advertising 2 for sale at $1800 each which is a pretty great deal.
