  • 00:31 YEAH I AGREE COMPLATELY ITS TERRIBLE A DISEASE TODAY 3 MINUTES ON CALL OF AUTO OR GRAND THEFT DUTY AND YOUR LIVES WISKED AWAY THE NEXT LOOK AT YOU YOU SICK BASTERDS PLAYING YOUR VIDEOGAMES YOU WATSE YOUR LIVES YOU SICK TURDS

  • @tepig11 If you call that addicted, I must be One with the games (during vacation time and stuff, mainly)! If you unwillingly play for days straight, and not willingly (like in events or stuff like that), it might be a sign... But with about 3-4 hours a day, you could be considered as a gamer... And trust me, 1 or 2 of gaming hours ain't alot.

  • I've been playing games since...about 5... And I'm not addicted, I am not in debt, I can do things instead of games (in winter, I better like to break ice in the driveway), I don't play for days straight (well except once, but it was at a LAN party)

  • This video is right, ever since I started playing video games, I keep killing people and smashing my games up into dust to sniff them up... SOOO Addicted.

  • This whole thing is really one sided

  • name of the song 1:32 ?????

    thank you

  • @keenodribbles spitfire - prodigy

  • @keenodribbles spitfire by prodigy

  • I play video games. I also work 40+ a week, have a girl friend, and are an active volunteer firefighter. Where the problem?

  • How is it the game developers fault,

  • i play games everyday for a long time i actually dont know how long i would say i play about 1-2 hours each way. in total i think i play about 3 hours 30min-4 . does this mean im addicted to games?

  • Comment removed

  • This program is about gaming "addiction" not gamers in general. It is highlighting the negative effects of gaming not suggesting that everyone who games is like those in the video. I say this being a gamer myself. Just like not everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic.

Gaming addiction can be very serious as highlighted in the video.

  • @Shadowsdream Except it's very dubious; Britons watch TV for an average of over a few hours a day. No accusations of television addiction? What about the subtle filmmaking techniques to convey their true opinion? Evident by the subtle eerie music when switching to cases of supposed addiction? Don't forget the statement by Joe Staley's featured friend: Tom Hubbard. He said that Panorama "twisted his words and in fact, his disinterest in school led to more gaming, not the other way around".

  • the first sign of addiction is denial, sound like something you just commented?

  • Lol, this is funny if anything.

One young male in the whole of the UK plays alot of video games! This obviously is a projection of everyone in the UK! We are DDDOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEDDDDD!!!!!!11!!!one1\!

  • This is not a problem infact this keeps your kids at home instead of having them get addicted to the real evils out there like hmm drugs maybe? or rape or all those dangers outside your house.

  • @uzumakimounir Your right to an extent. You can't be scared to leave your house tho bro. Thats no way to live.

  • They should see my face when i masturbate

  • i bet they got money for saying what they said ....

  • im sorry but what the fuck, do they not realise how fucking long we waiting for the new starcraft? how pumped everyone got? how excited and happy the community was to get a new game, they should have a go, it's very good, and it's got an amazing community also... this documentary is bull.

  • this is BULLCRAP

  • this is soo much BULL >.<

  • This is a load of shit South Korea does not have the worlds fastest broadband Japan has.

  • yes i am a hardcore gamer but i do well in school.i am expected to go to uni so people can not complain

  • "Quietly tapping away on their room, where no one knows whats wrong" well then, get off your arses and stop blaming your shite parenting on gaming companies. Fucking douchebags

  • Oh the harsh reality, realising your son is just another cranky little twat.. Better to blame Blizzard

  • if the kid goes mental when the internet goes down take him to the hospital mabye the parents should have noticed they're may be something wrong with him mentally of course not he's a saint mentally yeah...

  • there is no such thing as video game addiction assholes its in no well respected textbooks of addiction for example the only difference between gaming and golf is gamers have a better sense of faction

  • Comment removed

  • OMG THEYRE LINIGNG UP FOR A GAME! Err noone kicked off like that when peopl lined up at midnight for the last Harry Potter book.

  • 'left thousands of pounds in debt. PARTLY from buying games' well.. that means he didnt spend thousands of pounds on buying just games does it? you could just as easily say he got into thousands of pounds in debt partly buying washing powder.. they certainly love using scare tatics in this documentry. gaming is a part of our moden day culture. get on board and stop living in the past.

  • First of all Real gamers dont get addicted and dont have to play the game much to become the best and Pro at it

  • So what if they are their wating for starcraft... they waited like 14 years for that fucking game, imagine if he was waiting for a new car, I bet he would wait until late at night for it :D

  • I find panorama to be very bias in 90% of their documentaries.

  • Of course we spend more money on video games per year than movies and music. Video games are $60 each ..

  • maybe cuz sc2 is a fucking legendary game

  • All this did was make me wanna play games lol

  • hay Jeremy i saw your brother live yesterday

  • Why don't these parents tell their kids to stop playing, and not buy their kids rated M games.

  • SERIOUSLY.

    Addicted to Mw2?

  • I was so proud when they started talkin about Korea

  • Fucking idiots.

  • this is extremely retarted you chose if you want to play a game or not just because you dont have the will to stop or your having too much fun and thats your excuse does not mean you have to blame the game if anything its the parents and the kids fault the kids fault because he doesnt have the will to stop and the parents fault for not caring about there kids and getting the kids off the game for a few hours , i think the thing is they just hate video games in general and want to make a excuse

  • Yet another new medium becomes a scapegoat from ignorant idiots. Exactly the same can be said of any other form of media.

  • look how he runs ahah what a fag

  • wow xbox is addicting??

    i wish i got a ps3 now lol xD

  • >blaming videogames because of family violence

i seriously hope you guys aren't doing this

  • @satsugekibukouken >greentexting in youtube comments

i seriously hope you guys aren't doing this

  • 1:53

    "Just for a video game"

Believe me, you wanna see crazy, go to an i(anything) release. Idiots come by the thousands to spend money on overpriced and underpowered hardware.

  • Yo, 12 hours only? Come on.

  • "I started to destroy stuff because I have no internets."

    And it's the games fault.

  • 12 hours a day?

    Fucking casuals.

  • It's always the retards that get addicted

  • Anyone hating on gaming can stfu and get dropshotted.

  • minecraft is one of the most addictive games ever

  • Here is proof that I watched parts 1 and 2 of this insightful documentary. Its too bad video game addiction isn't as important among other addiction, it can ruin your life just as fast

  • Depression is a disease, Porn is a Addiction, and being gay is all by choice, amirite?

  • Im Jeremery Vine and heres a load of bullshit.

  • just like to point out to the reporter wow is not the most popular game ever it runescape so i want bbc to get their facts right before airing shit

  • @xgenmeleex Runecape has 1 million paying people, wow has 12 million..

  • what people fail to realize is that gaming healthily (not 20 hours a day, which is plainly stupid) increases average intelligence and reaction time

  • This is a very one sided debate

  • The reason so many people in the UK play video games so often is because it's a cheap way of keeping yourself occipied for hours. If everything wasnt so expensive here people would get out and do things more. You can pay £300 for a console and games that will keep you occipied for more than a year, doing any other hobby on a regular basis costs thousands of pounds over the space of a year.

  • @mephisto40 But some of those activities (In my opinion) are worth the money for the fun you get out of it.

  • I used to play xbox, it broke about a year ago, my life has been great ever since and ive never looked back.

  • @TaZ101SAGA cool story bro

  • @airgilbert I wish my friends would find something more constructive to do with their time, they all have their fat asses stuck on their gaming chair.

  • @TaZ101SAGA funny considering how you sit your fat ass in a chair talking about fanboys.

  • @airgilbert I have the right to express my opinion about something If I want to, thats what I was doing in that video, not 'sitting on my fat ass'. Note I said 'Gaming chair' which means a chair you sit in to play games, dur. If you actually bothered to look through my profile you will find that I dont spend much time sitting in a chair at all.

You are obviously just a troll, for a start you replied to my comment that was posted 3 months ago started abusing me, not exactly constructive is it.

  • who thinks they are blowing this way out of proportion?

  • @hiphoppolice55 I'm a gamer too but casual, i have friends like this and i think that this is the exact amount of awareness it should have.

  • @hiphoppolice55 Oh they did. Me and Trent are still in a dispute against them for using the footage wrongly and cutting out bits where we said it wasn't as bad as they were making it out to be etc...

    It's stupid.

  • This addicting does have a point. I played mw2 before my exams wen i shud hav ben revising and i failed my exams DIRECTLY becoz of it. People that say WoW isnt addictive needs to get a reallity check as it can happen

  • @hasnainbashir1 nope u failed ur exams cus u didnt pay attention in class, when i did my GCSE's i didnt revise once and was made to do the foundation papers cus i paid attention in class so had no need to revise, i didnt revise for any of my exams and still dont, i got above average grades as well, so saying u failed cus u didnt revise becuase u was playing video games is just wrong, u decided to play the games and not revise, but then is there really any correlation to revising n passing?

  • Joe Staley ..... You have just been stereotyped

  • PLEASE

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

NAME OF SONG FROM 1:34 onwards???

  • @DaBigCheeseLuigi Spitfire by The Prodigy

  • This is so negitive. For about 5 seconds one guys says it's good for the majority. The rest is, "gaming is bad, it's destroying our kids lives". These retards playing for 20 hours a day are just showing the gaming community up. And parents are crap, how about you look into what your buying your kid. Don't buy a 7 year old Call of duty, stupid people

  • he sounds so surpised by the que for the starcraft 2, people go to those events for fun. ¬¬ not cos there addicted

  • World of warcraft its not a disease, its just the stupid fucking retards who dont have a social life who give it a bad reputation.

  • Anyone know the song from 1:33 to about 2:00?

    Thanks

  • My question is: Why do parents not look in to what they are buying for their kids? Why do they not monitor their kids?

This show displays a ridiculously negative amount of TEH BIAS towards games.

  • @deviltelletubbie the problem is not only that, but the parents of these kids don't say:hey lights out time to go to bed turn off your computer or i'l turn it off for you.

Its about discipline. For adults:the adults should control themselves and not depend on the governmetn for something like controlling the kids who are anti social.

  • Deceiving.

  • 'He just went beserk'

*Shows a picture of a screaming guythingy*

Isn't this supposed to be a serious program?

  • thousands of pounds in debt from playing games massive exageration

  • the BBC is disgraceful can't a man have the freedom to sit in his mother's basement and play video games in peace?

  • Kind of funny they don't mention farmville, where millions of bored housewives and similar people are addicted like junkies. Also, for those not wanting to watch the whole thing here's the tl:dw version:

"A couple of sad persons ruined their lives playing games, SO, THAT MEANS IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO EVERYONE WHO TOUCHES A CONTROLLER! IT'S A BOMB JUST WAITING TO EXPLODE! YOUR KIDS COULD BE NEXT! WOULD SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN? *cue to picture of kid crying*

  • Hi, can i interview you about your video game addicti....

    STFU noob, am killing dragons!

    But i just want t....

    GO PLAY AION Online Foo!

  • Really, i'd rather play games then do DRUGS, ALCOHOL or GO OUT AND COME BACK PREGNANT.

Do people understand how innocent games are compared to those real life shit. I do admit that game addiciton does exist. But to spend free time in sports or drugs or games? What's the point we have to do something. Besides games like World of Warcraft is more of artwork then a game...

  • @sonicfan7 But the thing is...thats what games could turn people into doing :P. Me...i just relax after playing games because i get angry at ninja gaiden 2's highest difficulty being too hard xD. And then halo because too much sci fi...it could divert me from reality :P. I used to believe those aliens existed and everyone knew how to use guns...boy was i wrong. Peer pressure is another thing that could ruin kids.

  • @MrSlippy007 As a semi-hardcore gamer, I hardly can recall your experiences really. Key-element is, it's just a game, but any emotions the game brings with it (such as epicness or frustration) are what the games are desgined to do. No game is actually made to be addictive, except games like second live or other gambling games.

Some games are extremely educative, I can safely land a real-life B747-400 now thanks the FSX + PMDG 747X.

  • @MrSlippy007 There's one problem, I started gaming at the age of around 10 (which is not bad) my little brother however at 7. My experience is that at how younger you start how more the games are bieng taken to seriously, smaller childs are indeed vulnerable. but then again. It all depends on personallity.

  • @sonicfan7 It doesnt rely on personality. It relies on who plays it. People believe they get stronger from video games. The truth is that their thinking skills enhance alittle but their eyesight reflex slows down. Our bodies werent meant to stare at tv's for days. Kids need to relax and think out things or try to gain perspective of how or what happened. They then could experience real life consequences rather than fake made up realities that probably never happened anyways.

  • @MrSlippy007 What if you happen to understand constantly that it's only a game... I would consider myself a safe gamer even if I've gone through nights once every year or so (next day no work or something)

  • @MrSlippy007 My eyesight used to be quite good but i ruined it from staring at a tv screen computer screen and working under fluorescent lights.

I believe i probably play way too much games but i am in between jobs now.

There was a time 10 years ago when i would go on for 24 hours awake or more but i stopped doing that because i am older now and don't see the point.

I usually make my own schedule and say:i'm going to bed at this time and repeat it to myself and then turn off everything.

  • Liquor kills too. Just another example of the British/UK over exaggerating.

  • yeah ur right games make evil, in the same way as jack daniels creates violent drunks. all this stuff is shit, i hate these preachy programs that lay blame on the industry and removes blame from the people who are effected. u know we should have issue with cars after all how many people have died in them. statments like the ones thrown out by this show come from people who have the most basic understanding of a video game, they would rather blame that then parenting. hate shit like this!

  • sigh this is the reason why people think video games are bad news bears.

stupid shows that makes you think games are bad T_T

  • @gam4freak1 Actually there are some times that games can be bad. It is called peer pressure :P. And the fact kids believe video games are real. Im a real gamer...i know the effects and i see it everyday in school and life. People believe this stuff...game developers need to calm down. Too much to buy can be too little money 4 u.

  • @ravingjunkey: Hmm...that's kinda sad. Are you never going outside, doing something fun with your friends?

Sometimes I fantasy, that if I'm old (70 or something), I'm going to play CoD realy hardcore, cus then you've nothing else to do. But now? There is also a world outside, :p

  • @Joskenter really? i must discover this so called outside. meh then again i could just stay at home and play Black ops

  • None of these guys... in this documentary were or are severely addicted as I was. I would play from 9am all the way through morning, till afternoon, through the evening until dawn. I would play until around 9am till 6am (21 hours) then set my phone for me to get up at 9am again lmfao. This happened all through 2006 to early 2009 before I just got bored. Those were the best, and most enjoyable times of my life. And at Christmas, I'm reneweing my WoW membership.

  • OH DEAR thos people are sad

  • Cigarettes are more addictive, and they kill more people than video games ever will.

  • WTF?? 3:38 = PS3??

    BBC = Retarded

  • what a load of bull

  • they say 'more is spent on games than music and films'.. because each game cost 30-60 pound each, idiot and they treat it like a drug, what about athletes are they addicted becuase they have fun doing it? fuck off panorama!

  • the govment geevs you intanet to make u addictsded people!

  • This same argument was made about comic books in the 1950s and ALL of that effort is now laughed at openly.

Why not cut out the time between and view these accusations in the properly light right now?

Also, I think TV is threatened by video games because playing games cuts down on the amount of crap programming a viewer wi'll consume.

  • My face when I play a game, have a normal face. I don't cry, I have a life outside video games, I do my work and am progressing in life, I play computer games for 2 - 3 hours a day, I play shooters and violent games like gta, but also racing games, mario games, platformers, building games and sports games.

Why don't they interview me? Because it isn't good tv.

  • Next up:

Trampoline Addiction - Some would tell you it's just simple 'fun', but there may be serious health concerns involved with the oft-overlooked activity. It wasn't until Timmy dislocated his knee, that his parents realized their son had a problem.

Outside their son's hospital room they revealed, "We thought it was harmless, but Timmy's overjump has shaken the family to its core."

What don't the manufacturers want you to know? Is it too late for your child?

    Find out next on Panorama.

  • Why would anyone wait in line to get a video game? I've never had to do that because if there is a game I want, I reserve it beforehand.

As for the show, I think it is a little skewed against video games.

  • The people, who get addicted to video games or even any thing else, don't know what they want in life and so rather than figure life out they go and substitute reality with other things and other realities. Which I guess would be much easier, but would basically be like dying.

  • @Xbox360KiDi made me laugh reading your comment, coming from a person who's name is xbox360 haha.

  • Why aren't they concerned about movie premiers and their red carpets? Simply because the actors are real; so were those customed people. and movie premiers can have like two thousand people standing around i.e. Harry Potter.

  • Ok, access to fast broadband does not equal access to online gaming. You can game online at pretty much any speed above dial-up.

  • LOL!

    ORGASMIN FACE!

  • your woring about world of warcrafts 12 million subscribes what about facebook 200 million people????

  • @friikkipiikki1 The amount of time people spend on Facebook is MASSIVE. Put someone aged between 14 and (whatever.. 35?) and the chances are they will log into Facebook given half a chance. Using Facebook is seen as completely cool though. Since the site is so repetitive and relies on users to create, err, content ... it's just an unbreakable cycle.

  • Wow that was stupid.

  • They look like the growing of the video game industry is a negative thing. It's the users fault if they can't stop playing a freaking game especially if it gets to the extent of being thrown out of college. I play games all of the time but understand when I need to get my priorities straight. Jesus Christ... it's things like this that make the entire industry look like it shouldn't expand and it will always be a negative thing. Even if it has an addictive level, ITS JUST GOOD DESIGN.

  • "Computer games console"?

Ugh -_- Could you sound any more like you know nothing about games.

"why do you think you are addicted to this game"

Because he's a wanker who wanted his 15 min of shame

LOL at the wall of silly faces XD

  • The gamers interviewed are idiots !

  • We gamers are so smarter than this that we find this documentary "amusing" lol...

  • Prodigy!

  • They are supposed to be compelling and indeed "addictive" because that's what makes playing them fun.

I'm working on an iPhone game right now and I'm constantly thinking of ways to make the player want to have just one more go, and to reward them each time they do something well so they feel that need to keep playing and keep achieving.

Drug addiction is bad. Being "addicted" to games really isn't the same thing, as long as you have a normal life outside of it.

  • 3:45

Reporter: "when did you first notice you had a problem?..."

    Gamer: "what problem"

    Lol

  • @B15SDMDESIGNS

Lets face it guys BBC sucks they are just a bunch of religous fanatics

  • @Votlaksos Hardly. If anyone's a bunch of religious fanatics, I'd say the American Media is #1, hands down.

  • Comment removed

  • I see hypocrisy in saying People that line up over night for game are maybe addicted to it. Why not say the same thing when people line up for over night for a Harry Potter book or Line up over night for a movie. There more people in the UK that own a TV then a video game console. Why not make the episode about the damaging and addicting effects of watching TV? I am sure the BBC will slap down that episode before it was even shoot.

  • "Joe has enjoyed computer games since he was a small child, but then he bought an Xbox."

Unintentional humor at its finest, people : D

  • @papabungle Yeah. PC gaming provides such freedom from format.

  • @papabungle Yeah, that's pretty funny.

  • At 6:39 , they talk about different between tv and gaming, i must say they must have shown some really boring tv show to those kids .
