regarding the minimum wage, i understand that if taco bell could pay its workers less, they would have more money that they could then theoretically spend giving more people jobs. (Or, they could pocket the extra money as profit, since they are adequately staffed at these levels as it is, but whatever) So, you're advocating that instead of a bunch of people getting the pittance that is minimum wage, you want a few more people to be employed, at jobs that are slave waged for all of them? great.

The problem is, if you eliminate medical help to the poor, a LOT of people get sick and die in the streets. Medical Prices are high because government money has ruined the traditional price equilibrium that the free market would provide. It's the exact same reason college tuition has gone up. When people aren't paying their OWN money, they are less sensitive to prices, and prices steadily climb as a result. When people pay out of pocket, the prices matter more and companies have to lower prices to survive.
