  • Bless there hearts-3. God bless each and everyone of them who made it threw that deadly storm. Oh what a big change in Gainesville .got to admit i love my hometown the c.o.g (city of Gainesville)

  • I made a similar video of the Feb. 10,1940 tornado in Albany, GA. Ours hit downtown at 4 a.m. on a Saturday, we also had a heavy rain afterwards to keep down the fires. If out tornado had hit at the same time as this we would have lost more pee than we did. This storm system that hit Gainesville also hit Tupelo, Miss., Alabama and Tennessee, killing hundreds in it's path. Both the Albany and Gainesville tornadoes are suspected as having been F5's.

  • Excellent footage of the Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia tornado of 1936 which killed 200, and is considerend the fifth deadliest in U.S. history. My grandfather Zack Martin of Toccoa traveled to nearby Gainesville, west of Banks County, south of Habersham, to assist in the relief efforts. His friend Sen. Richard Russell was also on the scene, and the rebuilt courthouse was dedicated by FDR in 1938.

  • I live here, and it truly amazes me how much Gainesville has changed. I have no relatives that lived here during that time period , or any other.

  • I am so happy you made this video and it has been so WELL RECEIVED!!!!! :-) At this point 5248 views....Awesome.

  • @mdleather4ever. Read up on the history of this disaster. I believe state (in the form of forest rangers) and federal aid did in fact enable the rebuilding of Gainesville: ngeorgia.com/ang/1936_Gainesville_Tornado

  • And conspicuously absent are masses of citizens simultaneously protesting the government and demanding their entitlement "rescue". Go figure...

  • Great Video! Good job! This is my Home Town. I love Gainesville GA!

  • As the first hand memories of this horrible day fade, it is up to people like you to ensure that other generations do not forget. You have done this with this upload.

This is a great video and I wish I could give it more than one "like".

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! Gainesville is my hometown. My Grandmother, Frances Lawson Simmons, was a child when this happened. Everyday, she rode with the same friend and friend's mother to school. She was home sick. Had she been in the car that day, she would not have survived. These images are heartbreaking!

  • Thank you so much for posting this, my grandmother Lila Jones Blackwell was 17 years old when this tornado touched down. I can remember sitting at her knee and she would tell of the stories of that horrific day. She purchased. Book some years ago about the tornado that destroyed Gainesville GA. She lived on 5 Myrtle St. And was terrified of storms from that day forth. Thank you for your tireless effort in putting this montage together.

  • Wanda, you did a great job putting this together! Thanks for posting it.
